USER MANUAL FK 702 GRAEF

This device conforms to the relevant safety regulations. However, in- correct handling may lead to injury and damage. For safe handling of this unit, please observe the following safety instructions: ● Before using this unit for the rst time, check it for visible outer damages on the housing, connection cable and plug. Do not operate a damaged unit.

  • If the connection cable is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, the after-sales service or a similarly qualied person in order to prevent danger.
  • Repairs must be carried out by an expert or by Graef after-sales service only. Incorrect repairs may cause considerable hazards for the user. In addition, any claim under guarantee is forfeited.
  • Defective parts must be replaced by original spare parts only. It is only with these parts that the safety requirements are met.
  • This unit can also be used by children from 8 years age as well as by persons with limited physical, sensory or mental ability or with a lack of experience and/or knowledge if they have been trained in using the unit and have understood the dangers which may result from it. Cleaning and user maintenance must not be carried out by children, unless they are 8 years of age or older and are supervised in the process.
  • The unit and its connection cable have to be clear of children who are younger than 8 years.
  • Children should be supervised in order to make sure that they do not play with this unit.
  • The unit is not intended to be used with an external timer or a separate remove control.
  • Always disconnect the connection cable by using plug; do not pull the connecting cable.
  • Be careful not to let the power cord hang freely, this could cause the fall of the appliance.
  • Packaging materials must not be used for playing. There is a dan- ger of suffocation.
  • Observe the notes on the requirements regarding the installation21

  • Do not place the unit in a dishwasher, and do not hold under running water either.
  • The surfaces become hot while using the unit. Also after that, they will keep being hot for some time.

INFORMATION ON THESE OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

The operating instructions of the lter coffee machine (in the following referred to as unit) provides you with important information about its commissioning, security, the intended use and care of the unit. The operating instructions shall have to be available at the unit at all times. The instructions have to be read and applied by every person who deals with ● initial operation, ● operation, ● Troubleshooting and/or ● Cleaning of the unit. Store this operating instructions and pass them on to a possible subsequent owner. These operating instructions cannot take into consideration every conceivable use. For further information or in case of problems which are not dealt with or not dealt with sufciently in these instructions, please get in touch with Graef customer service or your specialist dealers. WARNING MESSAGES In these operating instructions, the following warning messages and signal words are used: WARNING This refers to a potentially dangerous situation. Failure to observe this warning may result in serious injury or even death. CAUTION This refers to a potentially dangerous situation. In case of non-observation of this warning message, material damage may occur. IMPORTANT! This refers to application tips and other especially important information.24

DANGER CAUSED BY ELECTRIC CURRENT

WARNING Mortal danger is caused by contact with energised cables or components! Please observe the following safety instructions in order to prevent an exposure to electric current: ● Do not use the unit if the mains cable or plug are damaged. ● In this case, you should let the Graef Customer Service install a new connection cable before using the appliance again. This may be done also by an authorised specialist. ● Do not open the housing under any circumstances. If live connections are touched or the electrical and mechanical construction are modied, there is the danger of electric shock. ● Never touch live parts. This can cause an electric shock and may cause even death. INTENDED USE This unit is not intended for commercial use. Use the unit only in closed spaces only, and operate it with water only. In order to avoid potential dangers, use the unit for coffee preparation only. Any other type of use or appli- cation is not allowed. Use the coffee pot and the coffee lter only together with this lter coffee machine.

LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

All technical information, data and notes on the installation, the operation and the care contained in these operating instructions correspond to the last status before printing, and are rendered under consideration of our previous experience and to the best of knowledge. No claims may be derived from the particulars, illustrations and descriptions in these instructions. The manufacturer shall not assume any liability for damage caused by: ● non-observation of the instructions ● unintended use ● incorrect repairs ● technical modications ● use of unapproved spare parts Translations shall be carried out to the best of knowledge. We shall not assume any liability for translation mistakes. The original German text only shall be binding. UNPACKING When unpacking the unit, proceed as follows:25

● Pull the unit out of the cardboard box. ● Remove the packaging parts. ● Remove any stickers on the unit (do not remove the type plate).

DISPOSAL OF THE PACKAGING

The packaging protects the unit against transport damage. The packaging materi- als are selected according to the environmental compatibility and disposal-related aspects and can therefore be recycled. The return of packaging into the material cycle saves raw material and reduces the waste volume. Dispose of the packaging material no longer needed at collection points for the “Green Dot” recycling sys- tem (in Germany). IMPORTANT! If possible, keep the original packaging during the guarantee period of the de- vice in order to be able to properly pack and transport the device in the guaran- tee case.

REQUIREMENTS ON THE INSTALLATION LOCATION

For safe and fault free operation of the unit, the following requirements of the installation location have to be met: ● The unit has to be placed on a solid, at, horizontal, and non-slipping surface with a sufcient weight-carrying capacity. ● Make sure that the unit cannot topple over. ● Choose the location in such a way that children cannot reach the hot surface of the unit or the supply lines. ● Do not place the appliance on hot surfaces, such as hotplates, or near them. ● Never use the appliance outdoors, and always keep it in a dry place. ● The unit is not designed for installation in a wall or a built-in cupboard. ● Do not set up the unit in a hot, wet or moist environment. ● The socket has to be easily accessible so that the power cable can be removed easily in case of emergency. ELECTRICAL CONNECTION For safe and fault-free operation of the unit, the following requirements have to be met during the electrical connection: ● Before connecting the unit, compare the connecting data (voltage and fre- quency) on the type plate with those of your energy network. These details must correspond so that no damage occurs to the unit. In case of doubt ask your trained electrician. ● The socket has to be protected at least by a 10 amps circuit breaker.26 ● Make sure that the power cable is not damaged and is not laid across hot surfaces or sharp edges. ● The connecting cable must not be stretched tightly. ● The electric safety of the unit is ensured only when it is connected to a socket with protective conductor installed correctly. Operation on a socket without protective conductor is forbidden. If in doubt, let the house installation checked by a trained electrician. The manufacturer shall not assume responsibility for damage which has been caused by absent or interrupted protective conductor.

Before initial use, after non-using the unit for a long time or after descaling it, we recommend to carry out 2 brewing operations for approximately 4 cups as described in the following, but without coffee.

COFFEE PREPARATION AND OPERATION

IMPORTANT! The minimum preparation quantity for coffee is 2 cups, the maximum one is 10 cups.

● Insert the plug into the socket. ● The LED-indicator will briey illuminate and then go out again. ● The unit is not switched on yet. ● Press the display on the touch display for 2 seconds. ● You will hear one beep. The unit is now switched on. ● Remove the lid.27

IMPORTANT! If there is still water in the water tank, the remaining water level will be displayed. If it is less than 2 cups, the 2 will ash.

● On the display, the number of possible cups will be shown that can be prepared. ● Put the lid back onto the water tank again. ● Remove the coffee lter.28 ● Insert a size 4 paper lter. ● Fill in the desired amount of coffee grounds. IMPORTANT! Bore putting the paper lter in, moisten the lter briey. It contains pores which will then open making it possible that more avours get into the coffee. IMPORTANT! With regard to the amount of ground coffee, we recommend to use per cup one measuring spoon that is full to the brim. That would be about 7 g per cup. Depending on your personal taste, you can also take more or less ground coffee. IMPORTANT! Please check to see that the lid is always rmly on the lter jug.

● Put the coffee lter back onto the guide again. ● Ensure that the coffee pot has been inserted. ● Select the desire number of cups.29

● The brewing operation starts. ● After the brewing operation has been nished, you will hear 3 beeps. ● Wait for a moment until the coffee has own through. ● Remove the coffee pot and pour the coffee into a cup. ● Immediately after the brewing operation, remove the paper lter together with the coffee grounds. Before you can start another brewing operation, you must remove the coffee lter once. IMPORTANT! If there is remaining quantity of water in the tank, this will be shown to you by indicator lights showing the corresponding number of cups. If there is less water than for 2 cups in the tank, there will only ash the 2 on the display. TANK EMPTYING In order to empty the tank, please touch the number of cups display 2, for about 5 seconds until it beeps twice. Make sure that the empty coffee lter has been inserted and the coffee pot with lid stand on the hotplate. DESCALING REMINDER If you touch the number of cups display 2 - 10 after 60 cycles, the numbers from 2 to 10 will illuminate one by one. The process is repeated twice. The unit will indicate that it should be descaled. After 70 cycles, the device must be descaled. The display 4 will ash fast; coffee cannot be prepared any longer.30 DESCALING FUNCTION If you regularly decalcify the unit, this will increase its service life. For decalcifying, exclusively use Graef descaling tablets which are matched to our units. You can obtain them from our online shop on haushalt.graef.de/service/shop/ under article number 145618 or from your specialist dealer. IMPORTANT! We accept no liability for missing or insufcient decalcication. In this case, the warranty will become null and void.

● Put in water for 4 cups into the tank. ● Put one Graef descal- ing tablet (Article no. 145618) into the tank. ● Wait a moment until the tablet has dissolved and put the lid back on again.

● Make sure that the coffee lter is inserted and the coffee pot stands on the hotplate. ● Touch the display 4 for approx. 5 seconds. ● You will hear 2 beeps.31

● The unit will start the descaling process. The number of cups displays will illuminate one by one. ● After approximately 15 minutes, the process will be nished with the unit switching off automatically. ● Pour away the descal- ing mixture.

● Switch the unit back on again. ● Put the coffee pot back onto the hotplate again. ● Fill in water for 2 cups.

● Touch the display 2 for approx. 5 seconds. The water ows through the unit and removes all residues of the descaling mix- ture. After that, pour it away and thoroughly rinse the coffee lter and the coffee pot. Now you can make coffee as usual.

REMOVING THE LID AND AROMA HOPPER

The lid and aroma hopper can be removed for easier cleaning. After you have re- moved the lid, you can screw off the aroma hopper.32 IMPORTANT! The aroma hopper ensures optimal coffee circulation and perfect aroma after each brewing operation. EXTERNAL CLEANING IMPORTANT! Watch the following safety instructions before starting to clean the unit: ● Switch the unit off before cleaning and pull the power cord from the electric socket. ● Let the unit cool down before cleaning. ● Use a soft and moist cloth to clean the outer surfaces of the unit. Use a mild detergent in case of heavy soiling. ● Do not use any aggressive or abrasive detergents and no solvents. ● Do not scratch off stubborn soiling with hard objects. ● Do not put the unit in the dishwasher and do not use it under running water. SECURITY CONTROL ● If you can hear 2 continuous beeps, ensure that the coffee lter has been inserted. ● If you can hear 3 beeps, ensure that the coffee pot is on the hotplate.
