How to connect the speakers to the LX3900SA system?

Connect the speakers using the supplied cables, matching the colors of the jacks. Ensure you connect the front, center, rear speakers and the subwoofer to the corresponding terminals on the back of the main unit. Any incorrect connection may damage the system.

How to set the on-screen display (OSD) language?

In disc mode, press SETUP, then select the GENERAL SETUP PAGE. Choose OSD LANGUAGE and select the desired language from the list, then press OK to confirm.

What to do if the picture does not appear on the TV?

Check that the TV is set to the correct video input channel (usually FRONT, A/V IN or VIDEO). Make sure the video cable (SCART, S-Video or composite) is properly connected. If the screen remains black, wait 15 seconds for the auto-resume to activate after changing the TV type.

How to automatically memorize radio stations?

Press SOURCE to select Tuner mode. The message 'AUTO INSTALL PRESS PLAY' appears. Press PLAY (▶II) on the front panel to start automatic installation. FM then MW stations will be memorized automatically.

No sound from the rear or center speakers, why?

Check that the speakers are correctly connected. Press the SURR button on the remote to select multichannel surround mode. Ensure the audio source is recorded in surround sound (Dolby Digital, DTS, etc.) and not in simple stereo.

How to use the repeat function for a passage?

During playback, press REPEAT A-B at the start point, then again at the end point. The sequence repeats continuously. To stop repetition, press REPEAT A-B a third time.

Can I play DivX or MPEG-4 files on this player?

Yes, the LX3900SA plays DivX 3.11, 4.x and 5.x files as well as MPEG-4 files (Simple Profile and Advanced Simple Profile) recorded on CD-R/RW or DVD+R/RW. Make sure the files are encoded in a compatible format.

How to change the parental control password?

In the PREFERENCE PAGE menu, select PASSWORD then CHANGE. Enter the old password (default: 136900), then enter the new 6-digit code twice. Confirm with OK.

What to do if the remote control does not work?

Check that the batteries are inserted correctly and are not exhausted. Point the remote directly at the infrared sensor of the unit. Reduce the distance between the remote and the unit. If the problem persists, replace the batteries.

How to adjust the sound equalizer?

Press the SOUND button on the remote. For movies, choose between CONCERT, DRAMA, ACTION or SCI-FI. For music, select ROCK, DIGITAL, CLASSIC or JAZZ. For neutral sound, choose CONCERT or CLASSIC.

Important notes for users in the U.K.

Mains plug

This apparatus is fitted with an approved 13 Amp plug. To change a fuse in this type of plug proceed as follows:

1 Remove fuse cover and fuse.
2 Fix new fuse which should be a BS1362 5 Amp, A.S.T.A. or BSI approved type.
3 Refit the fuse cover.

If the fitted plug is not suitable for your socket outlets, it should be cut off and an appropriate plug fitted in its place.

If the mains plug contains a fuse, this should have a value of 5 Amp. If a plug without a fuse is used, the fuse at the distribution board should not be greater than 5 Amp.

Note: The severed plug must be disposed of to avoid a possible shock hazard should it be inserted into a 13 Amp socket elsewhere.

How to connect a plug

The wires in the mains lead are coloured with the following code: blue = neutral (N), brown = live (L).

- As these colours may not correspond with the colour markings identifying the terminals in your plug, proceed as follows:

- Connect the blue wire to the terminal marked N or coloured black.

- Connect the brown wire to the terminal marked L or coloured red.

- Do not connect either wire to the earth terminal in the plug, marked E (or 12 ) or coloured green (or green and yellow).

Before replacing the plug cover, make certain that the cord grip is clamped over the sheath of the lead - not simply over the two wires.

Helpful Hints

You only need to make one video connection to your TV in order to view the DVD playback.

If your TV is not equipped with a SCART connector, connect your TV through the corresponding video connection 1 or 2 (cables not supplied).

Playing a disc

Make sure your DVD system and TV are connected and turned on!

1 Press DISC on the remote control.

You can also press the SOURCE button on the front panel until “DISC” appears on the display panel.

2 Turn on the TV and select the correct Video In mode.

You should see the blue DVD background screen on the TV (if no disc in the DVD system).

3 Press OPEN/CLOSE ▲ on the front of the DVD system and load a disc, then press OPEN•CLOSE ▲ again to close the disc tray.

Make sure the disc label is facing up. For double-sided discs, load the side you want to play face up.

4 Playback will start automatically.

If a disc menu appears, use ▲▼◀▶ buttons on the remote to make the necessary selection, then press OK to confirm. Or, use the numeric keypad on the remote to select features. Follow the instructions given in the disc menu.

5 To stop playback, press STOP ■.

No picture?

Check the AV (Audio/Video) mode on your TV.

* Usually this channel is between the lowest and highest channels and may be called FRONT, A/V IN, or VIDEO.
* Or, you may go to channel 1 on your TV, then press the Channel down button repeatedly until you see the Video In channel.
* Or, your TV remote control may have a button or switch that chooses different video modes.
* See your TV manual for more details.
