Why does my Archer VR300 only have black ethernet ports and no blue port?
Frequently Asked Questions - 28 j
Response Notice-Facile

The Archer VR300 has 5 ethernet ports: 4 black LAN ports (for connecting your devices) and 1 blue WAN port (for the internet input cable).

If you only see black ports, it could mean two things:

  • Visual check: Look carefully at the back of the router. Depending on the unit, the blue WAN port may be hard to see or have a dark blue shade rather than bright blue. It is usually the port located next to the other 4.
  • Model or manufacturing: Some color or manufacturing variants of the VR300 may have all ports in a similar color. In this case, the WAN port is usually indicated by a label or a legend printed on the casing.

To identify the WAN port with certainty, check the label/diagram on the side or back of the router, or refer to the connection section of the guide for the exact order of the ports.

How to install the Archer VR300 with a fiber box and a VoIP box?
Frequently Asked Questions - 28 j
Response Notice-Facile

Archer VR300 and fiber + VoIP infrastructure: The Archer VR300 is an ADSL/VDSL modem-router, designed to work on a traditional telephone line. With a fiber box (fiber modem), it cannot act as the main modem since it only supports ADSL/VDSL. You must use the Archer in pure Wi-Fi router mode by placing it downstream of the fiber box.

Practical installation: Connect an Ethernet cable directly from the LAN port (or network port) of your fiber box to the WAN port of the Archer VR300. The Archer will then receive Internet access from the fiber box and redistribute it via Wi-Fi 802.11ac (up to 300 Mbps on 2.4 GHz and 867 Mbps on 5 GHz) and its 4 LAN ports 10/100 Mbps. Once connected, access the Archer's administration interface via http://192.168.1.1 or http://tplinkmodem.net, then navigate to WAN > WAN Configuration to check that the connection type is correctly detected (usually DHCP or static IP depending on your ISP).

For VoIP telephony: The VoIP box must remain connected independently to the fiber box or directly to your ISP's network port. The Archer VR300 does not have a dedicated phone port and only handles data traffic (Internet). Ensure that your VoIP box can be powered from your fiber box or a network switch. You may connect the VoIP box to one of the Archer's LAN ports if your setup allows, but this depends on your ISP and VLAN settings.

Initial setup: After connecting, wait 2 minutes for the Archer's LEDs to stabilize. Log in to the Web interface (192.168.1.1, default credentials: admin/admin). Access Quick Setup to complete the configuration. Note that the Archer operates as a secondary router: it obtains an IP address from the fiber box (usually 192.168.1.x) and creates its own Wi-Fi network. Devices connected to the Wi-Fi or LAN ports will go through the Archer to access the Internet.

Key points: Check with your ISP that there are no specific constraints regarding the use of third-party equipment downstream of the fiber box, especially for VoIP. Some ISPs require VLAN configurations or specific settings for telephony to work correctly with a cascading architecture. If you need to configure advanced settings, refer to the complete manual at www.tp-link.com/en. Don't forget to secure your Wi-Fi by changing the default password visible under the router.
