Frequently Asked Questions - WDF518SAAW WHIRLPOOL

How to install the Whirlpool WDF518SAAW dishwasher?
Installation must be performed by a qualified technician. Follow the provided instructions: prepare the opening with service connections (water, electricity, drain), connect the drain hose, water supply line, and electrical power, then secure the appliance to the countertop using the provided brackets.
What is the required water pressure for this dishwasher?
Water pressure must be between 20 and 120 psi (138-862 kPa). Too low or too high pressure can affect operation. Use a hot water supply line at 120 °F (49 °C) recommended.
How to level the dishwasher?
Use a bubble level to check levelness. Adjust the front and rear feet by turning them. If necessary, use shims securely attached to the floor to compensate for uneven floor. The dishwasher must be stable and level on both sides.
Can I use an extension cord?
No, it is strictly prohibited to use an extension cord. The dishwasher must be plugged directly into a 3-prong grounded outlet, or directly wired via a junction box. Follow local electrical codes.
How to connect the drain hose?
Use a new drain hose (max length 10 ft). Connect it to the garbage disposal or drain tee above the trap, at least 20 in (50.8 cm) above the floor. Secure with hose clamps and, if necessary, add an anti-siphon break.
What to do if the door does not close properly?
Check that the dishwasher is level and the feet are properly adjusted. Make sure no objects are blocking the door. If the problem persists, adjust the door spring tension by moving the adjustment pin to a different hole.
How to maintain the Whirlpool WDF518SAAW dishwasher?
Regularly clean the filter, spray arms, and door gasket. Use a special dishwasher cleaner once a month. Check the spray arms to avoid clogging. Do not use abrasive products.
What types of detergents to use?
Use a powder, liquid, or tablet detergent designed for dishwashers. Follow the manufacturer's recommendations. For hard water, a rinse aid is recommended to improve drying.
The dishwasher does not start, what to check?
Check that the circuit breaker is not tripped and that the door is properly closed and locked. Ensure the cycle is correctly set and the water supply is on. If the problem persists, consult the manual or call customer service.
How to protect the dishwasher from freezing?
If the appliance is in an unheated area, have it winterized by authorized service personnel. Completely drain water from the supply lines and dishwasher to avoid freeze damage. Freeze damage is not covered by the warranty.

Why doesn't the dishwasher door close properly?
Frequently Asked Questions - 13 j
Response Notice-Facile

Several reasons may prevent the door of your WHIRLPOOL WDF518SAAW from closing properly. Here’s how to diagnose and resolve them:

1. Check the level of the appliance

An unlevel dishwasher will prevent the door from closing properly. Ensure that the appliance is stable and flat on the floor. Use the adjustable feet located under the dishwasher to correct any tilting.

2. Remove any obstruction

Inspect the door closing path. Make sure that no dish, basket, or debris is blocking the door mechanism.

3. Adjust the door spring tension

If the door falls open by itself, the spring is lacking tension. Locate the spring adjustment pin on the left and right sides of the door:

  • Remove the pin from its current position
  • Reinsert it into the top hole to increase the spring tension
  • Ensure that the pin is in the same hole on both sides

If, on the contrary, the door closes too quickly, decrease the tension by moving the pin to the bottom hole.

4. If the problem persists

If after these checks the door still does not close properly, an internal problem with the door mechanism may be the cause. Contact Whirlpool technical service for a professional diagnosis.

Helpful Tip:

Compression fittings:

a. Slide nut onto copper tubing about 1" (2.5 cm).
b. Slide ferrule onto the tubing. Do not position ferrule on the end of the tubing.
c. Put the tubing into the elbow as far as it will go.
