DANGER OF EXPLOSION IF BATTERY IS INCORRECTLY REPLACED. REPLACE ONLY WITH THE SAME OR EQUIVALENT TYPE
These alarm functions are based on the photocell principle. This means the smoke detector checks for dust particles in the air as a result of a fire. It does not detect heat, gas or fire. This smoke alarm sounds an early signal if properly assembled and maintained. This gives you extra time to evacuate your home and phone the fire service. This alarm is built to detect smoke - it cannot fight a fire.
READ AND KEEP THIS MANUAL! IT COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE
IMPORTANT
- Read this manual carefully.
- Keep the smoke detector out of the reach of children.
- Only install this detector in the correct place, if possible in the centre of the ceiling.
Test the detector weekly or after a period of extended absence - Clean the detector (once a month) with a vacuum cleaner.
- Do not use any cleaning agents or other chemical products when cleaning it.
- Temporarily remove the detector during renovation or rebuilding work. Always clean the detector with a vacuum cleaner when replacing it.
"Better too much than too little". It is best to install a number of detectors to increase your safety. - Never remove the batteries from the smoke alarm unless they need replacing.
- Never paint your smoke alarm
INFO
- With frequent use smoke detectors have often helped to prevent casualties. They can give an early warning and save lives. In some cases smoke alarms have not worked because of incorrect use such as:
- When the battery is flat or not replaced in good time.
- If the detector has not detected smoke because of incorrect installation.
- If the alarm was not heard or not heard early enough because there were too few detectors in the home or because of excessive use of drugs or alcohol.
- in some cases where a detector does not work: smoking in bed where there is no detector, explosions, gas or CO leaks, electrical faults, acids, incorrect storage of explosive substances.
- A smoke detector does not last forever. We advise you to replace each smoke detector every 10 years.
INSTALLATION OF YOUR SMOKE DETECTOR

Remove the mounting bracket by turning it anticlockwise (to the left). This bracket must be assembled on the ceiling.
UK

Use a pencil to mark the drill holes through the mounting bracket on your ceiling. Drill the holes and insert the plugs if necessary.

Screw the bottom plate tight on the ceiling. Make sure that the bottom plate is tight against the ceiling so no air can circulate above the smoke detector and impede smoke detection. If necessary seal this opening with mastic.

Take the battery out of the compartment and remove the plastic cover. Insert the battery in the detector.
TIP: check the detector for correct operation. Press the test button on the top of the detector for several seconds. If the detector sounds a loud signal it is working perfectly. Fit the batteries correctly. If they are not inserted correctly the product cannot work or there is a risk of explosion (with lithium batteries).

Fit the smoke detector on the bottom plate and turn it clockwise (to the right).
CAUTION: a smoke detector without battery CANNOT be fitted on the bottom plate.
WHERE TO FIT A SMOKE DETECTOR
Before the detector responds a certain amount of smoke will first have to enter the device. The detector must be installed within 10 paces of the seat of a fire to be able to respond, and in such a way that the sound of the alarm will reach you anywhere in the home, even if you are asleep. A single smoke detector in your home gives some protection providing it is fitted in the correct place, but two or more smoke detectors in your home ensure better safety in warning you in good time. It is best to install smoke detectors in all spaces where a fire could originate, and certainly in children's rooms.

Minimum protection:
install a smoke detector on each floor.
- Within 7.5 metres of spaces where a fire can occur.
- Within 3 metres of bedrooms.
Maximum protection:
install a smoke detector in all rooms (except bathroom and kitchen).
It is important to fit the alarm in a passageway or hallway between the living room and bedrooms. Fit it as near as possible to the living room, but make sure you could still clearly hear the alarm in your bedroom (see figure 1). If it is a large home with a passageway or hallway longer than 15 metres, one smoke detector is not sufficient. The distance to a possible seat of fire can then be more than 7.5 metres, which is too long. In a home with more than one sleeping part it is recommended to fit smoke detectors between all bedrooms and the living room.

- Fit the smoke detector in the middle of the ceiling but not in the neighbourhood of draughts or other air flows
- Always at least 60~cm from the wall.
- It is particularly important to not fit the detector in the apex of a roof because fumes cannot usually reach corners.
- When ceiling assembly is not possible, you can install the smoke detector 30~cm from the ceiling on the wall.
NEVER FIT A SMOKE DETECTOR:

- In bathrooms, kitchens, showers, garages, etc. In places where it can sound a false alarm due to condensation, normal smoke or gases. Fit a smoke alarm at least 5 metres from such sources of smoke.
- Places where the temperature can rise to above 40^ or fall to below 0^ .
- In the vicinity of decorative objects, doors, electrical boxes, lamps, fittings, windows, wall fans, etc. that can prevent smoke from reaching the smoke detector.
- Fit the detector at least 50cm away from an object.

- Surfaces that are normally warmer or colder than the rest of the space. Temperature variations can impede smoke from reaching the detector.
- Next to or directly above heaters.
In places that are very difficult to reach. - In very dusty places. Dust can prevent smoke from reaching the smoke chamber.
- Within one metre of dimmers and wiring. Some dimmers can affect the working of a smoke detector.
- Within 1.5m of fluorescent lighting. Electrical pulses can affect the working of the detector.
- Outdoor or indoor spaces where there may be many insects. Small insects in the smoke chamber can affect the working of the detector.
TESTING YOUR SMOKE DETECTOR

This smoke detector has a test function. Press until the alarm signal sounds to be sure of correct operation. The signal stops when you release the button. The smoke detector has a red LED that lights up once a minute with normal operation.
TIP!
- To check proper operation test the detector at least once a month. It is best to do this once a week, and certainly after a prolonged absence.
- Do not test with fire!!!
CLEANING YOUR SMOKE DETECTOR

Clean your detector regularly (e.g. once a month) depending on the location. Vacuum clean the detector near the detector chamber and on the sides. This can be done with your vacuum cleaner's soft brush.
CAUTION: not cleaning your detector can result in poor operation of the detector.
REPLACING THE BATTERIES

This smoke detector works on a 9V alkaline battery. When the battery must be replaced the detector sounds an audible 'beep' signal. This signal sounds every minute for approximately 30 days.
Replace the battery as soon as possible. Turn the detector anticlockwise on the mounting bracket. Press the test button for ten seconds before fitting the new batteries. Then insert the new batteries. ENSURE CORRECT POLARITY.

Test your detector after inserting the new batteries.
TIPS
HOW TO AVOID A FIRE
- Always safely store flammable substances in a fire-safe place.
- Keep matches out of the reach of children.
- Never leave candles to burn unattended.
- Never throw the contents of an ash tray in the rubbish bin without checking that everything has extinguished.
- Make sure your metal fire guard is always properly in front of your fireplace, and have your chimney cleaned regularly.
- Always use fuses with the stipulated capacity for the protection of your mains.
- Never experiment with fuses.
- Make sure that your electrical installation is in good condition and never overload it.
- Do not smoke in bed.
- Only buy electrical installations or appliances of approved quality.
BE ALERT
- Plan two escape routes: choose the most suitable windows to escape through. Place a ladder if the window is too high. At night close your bedroom door to slow the spread of fire. Use other firefighting equipment and make sure that you know how to use it.
- Test your escape routes with your family. Make a game of it if necessary.
- Always agree a meeting place outside the home.
- When evacuating close as many doors as possible to slow the spread of the fire.
- Never open a warm door. Then choose your alternative route.
- With much smoke formation crawl as close as possible to the ground. Only breathe through a damp cloth or hold your breath as much as possible. Smoke is also very hot and toxic. Smoke is the main cause of fatalities in fires, not fire itself.
- Only phone the fire service when you are outdoors or with the neighbours.
- Never go back into a burning home
TIP: The local fire department can provide you with more information about fire prevention
