By purchasing the SilverCrest SKWH 5 A1 kitchen scale, hereinafter referred to as kitchen scale, you have opted for a high-quality product. Familiarise yourself with the kitchen scale before using it for the first time and read these operating instructions carefully. Observe the safety instructions and only use the kitchen scale in the manner described in these operating instructions and for the indicated fields of application. Keep these operating instructions in a safe place. Hand over all documents in the event that you pass on the kitchen scale to a third party.
The purpose of thiskitchen scale is to measure the weight of food. This kitchen scale must not be used outside of closed rooms or in regions with a tropical climate. This kitchen scale is not intended for business or commercial use. Use the kitchen scale solely for private purposes in living areas; any other use is deemed improper. This kitchen scale meets the requirements of all relevant standards related to CE conformity. Compliance with these standards is no longer guaranteed if a change is made to the kitchen scale without the authorisation of the manufacturer. The manufacturer shall not be liable for any damages or faults arising as a result. Only use the accessories specified by the manufacturer. Please observe the national regulations and/or laws in the respective country of use.

This kitchen scale can be used by children aged eight and over, as well as by people with reduced physical, sensory or mental abilities or who lack experience and knowledge, providing they are supervised or have been instructed in the safe use of the kitchen scale and understand the resulting dangers. Children must not play with the kitchen scale. Cleaning and user maintenance must not be carried out by children unless they are supervised. Also keep the packaging film away from children. Do not use different batteries (old and new, alkaline and carbon etc.) at the same time. Remove the batteries if you intend not to use the device for a longer period of time. There is a risk of explosion and leakage if the device is not used properly. Batteries are not a toy. In the event that the batteries are swallowed, seek immediate medical attention. Batteries must not be opened or deformed in any way because leaking chemicals can cause injury. If it comes into contact with the skin or eyes, rinse/wash the area with plenty of water and seek medical attention. WARNING! If you notice any smoke, unusual noises or smells, remove the batteries from the kitchen scale immediately. In such cases, the kitchen scale should not be used until it has been inspected by authorised service personnel. Do not inhale smoke possibly caused by a burning device. In order to avoid hazards, the kitchen scale must not become damaged. WARNING! If the batteries have leaked, remove them to avoid damaging the device. You can remove leaked battery fluids with a dry, absorbent cloth. When doing so, wear suitable gloves! Contact with your skin must be avoided. If it comes into contact with the skin or eyes, rinse/wash the area with plenty of water and seek medical attention. WARNING! The kitchen scale must not be exposed to direct sources of heat (for example, heaters), direct sunlight or strong artificial light. Also avoid contact with splashing and dripping water as well as aggressive liquids. Do not use the kitchen scale near water. In particular, the kitchen scale must never be immersed. Also ensure that the kitchen scale is not exposed to excessive shocks and vibrations. Furthermore, no foreign bodies should penetrate into the device. Remove the strips from the battery compartment (5) on the bottom of the kitchen scale. The kitchen scale is now ready to use. If the kitchen scale does not switch on, please check whether the batteries were moved when the protective strip was pulled out.
To ensure correct measurements, it is important that there a firm base underneath. Therefore, ensure that the kitchen scale is always placed on a firm, level base. Otherwise, the measurement result may not be accurate.
8.1 Switching on/weighing with kitchen scale
Press the On/Off/Tare button (2) to switch on the kitchen scale. The set measurement unit or weight unit will appear on the display (3). The meanings of the symbols are as follows: Symbol Meaning Tare The kitchen scale was reset to zero Weight (g, oz, lb:oz) Liquid (ml, fl.oz) Milk (ml, fl.oz) Press the Unit/Mode button (4) to change the measurement and weight units. Place the item to be weighed on the weighing surface (1). The measurement result will appear on the display (3). Remove the weighed item from the weighing surface if you do not wish to weigh anything else. If you would like to add another item to weigh, please refer to the ‘Tare function’ chapter.SilverCrest SKWH 5 A1 English - 9
Press the On/Off/Tare button (2) to weigh another item. The kitchen scale will now reset itself to zero. ‘Tare’ will also appear in the display (3). Now add the new item that you would like to weigh. The measurement result of the new item you are weighing now appears in the display (3). Repeat the process if you wish to add more items to weigh. When doing so, the maximum total weight must not exceed 5 kg. Remove the weighed item from the weighing surface if you do not wish to weigh anything else. Press the On/Off/Tare button (2) to end the tare function. The kitchen scale will now reset itself to zero. ‘Tare’ will no longer appear on the display (3).
8.3 Automatic switch-off
The kitchen scale has an automatic switch-off function. If the kitchen scale is not used for two minutes, it will automatically switch itself off. Press and hold the On/Off/Tare button (2) for approximately three seconds to switch off the kitchen scale manually.
8.4 Inserting/changing the batteries
To insert batteries, remove the battery compartment cover on the bottom of the kitchen scale by inserting your finger into the recess on the side of the battery compartment (5). Now prise the battery compartment cover (5) off the battery compartment. Now insert the new batteries or remove the batteries if they are empty. Ensure the correct polarity (+ and -) when inserting the batteries. The polarity is marked on the batteries and in the battery compartment (5). Then reattach the battery compartment lid on the battery compartment (5) until you hear it click into place.SilverCrest SKWH 5 A1
9.1 Nothing appears on the display
The batteries were moved when the protective strip was pulled out. Insert the batteries again correctly. The batteries are dead. Please replace the batteries with new batteries of the same type. Please refer to the instructions in the ‘Inserting/changing the batteries’ section. The batteries were inserted incorrectly. Please refer to the instructions in the ‘Inserting/changing the batteries’ section.
9.2 ‘LO’ appears on display and scale switches off
The batteries are almost empty. Please replace the batteries with new batteries of the same type. Please refer to the instructions in the ‘Inserting/changing the batteries’ section.
9.3 ‘Err’ appears on display
The weight exceeds the maximum load capacity of 5 kg. Remove the items from the weighing surface (1) immediately to avoid damaging the kitchen scale.
10. Maintenance/cleaning
Maintenance work is required if the kitchen scale has been damaged, for example if the device housing is damaged, liquids or objects have got inside the device, or if the device has been exposed to rain or moisture. Maintenance work is also required if the device does not work properly or has been dropped. If you notice any smoke, unusual noises or smells, remove the batteries from the kitchen scale immediately. In such cases, the kitchen scale should not be used until it has been inspected by authorised service personnel. All maintenance work should only be carried out by qualified specialists. Never open the housing of the kitchen scale.
Clean the kitchen scale using a clean, slightly damp cloth and never use abrasive liquids. Use some washing up-liquid on the damp cloth for stubborn stains.SilverCrest SKWH 5 A1 English - 11
11. Storing the device when not in use
If the kitchen scale is not going to be used for a longer period of time, store it in a safe, clean and dry place. Remove the batteries. Before storing the device, clean it thoroughly as described in the previous section.
12. Environmental and waste disposal information
If a product features this icon of a crossed-through waste bin, the product is subject to European Directive 2012/19/EU. Electrical and electronic equipment must not be put in the household waste, but must be disposed of via designated public disposal centres. By properly disposing of the old device, you can avoid environmental damage and hazards to health. The batteries must be removed from the device before it is disposed of. Further information on disposing of old devices can be obtained from your local authority or the shop where you purchased the product. Make sure the packaging is disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner. Cardboard packaging can be put out for waste-paper collection or taken to public collection points for recycling. The plastic packaging used for your device is collected by your local waste management company and disposed of in an environmentally- friendly manner.
12.1 Disposing of batteries
Think about environmental protection. Used batteries do not belong in normal domestic waste. You must dispose of them at a collection point for old batteries. Please note that you should only dispose of batteries in collection containers for old batteries when they are fully discharged. If the batteries are not completely dead, you need to take precautionary measures before disposal to prevent short circuits.
