General Information

• Read these instructions carefully and keep them in a safe place.
  • Only use the appliance as described in this manual.
• Any damage caused by failure to observe this instruction manual will immediately void the warranty. The manufacturer/importer accepts no liability for damages caused by failure to observe this instruction manual, careless use of the appliance or use not in accordance with the instructions contained in this manual.
• Keep the appliance out of the reach of children.
• This appliance is not intended for use by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities (including children), or anyone lacking sufficient knowledge or expertise, unless supervised by or following instruction from someone responsible for their safety.
• Keep the appliance and its cord out of reach of children under 8 years of age.
• Children must be strictly supervised to prevent them from treating the appliance like a toy.

• Do not allow unsupervised children to clean or maintain this appliance.
  • Always remove the plug from the plug socket and allow the appliance to cool down:
  o before moving the appliance;
  o before storing the appliance;
  o before assembling or disassembling parts;
  o before cleaning the appliance or performing maintenance;
  o after using the appliance.

- Repairs may only be carried out by a qualified service centre*.

Electricity and heat

• Before use, check that the mains power supply voltage is the same as the voltage indicated on the appliance.
  • Always plug the appliance into an earthed plug socket.
  • Regularly check the power cord for damage.
• Do not use the appliance if the power cord is damaged. Have a damaged power cord replaced by a qualified service centre.
• Do not use any appliance with a damaged cord or plug or after the appliance has shown signs of defects, has fallen or has been damaged in any way. Return the appliance to the manufacturer or the nearest qualified service centre for inspection, repairs or electrical or mechanical modifications.

• Always remove the plug from the wall socket by pulling on the plug, not the power cord.

• Make sure the power cord does not come into contact with hot surfaces or steam.
  • Always remove the plug from the power socket before moving the appliance.

• Do not operate the appliance by means of an external time switch or a separate remote control system.
• If an extension lead is required, use a 10 amp power cord. Power cords with a lower amp rating may burn out. When positioning the power cord, make sure that it cannot be pulled on or tripped over.
• Avoid overloading by not connecting too many appliances to a group.
• Never immerse the appliance, the plug or the housing in water or other liquids, to avoid the risk of electric shock.
• Do not touch the appliance if it has fallen into water. Remove the plug from its socket, turn off the appliance and do not use it again.
• Do not use the appliance close to hot objects such as a stove or oven.

Using the appliance

- This appliance is intended for domestic and similar use, such as:

o in staff kitchens in shops, offices and other working environments;

o on farms;

o by hotel or motel guests or guests in other residential settings;

o in bed and breakfasts or similar environments.

- The use of accessories not recommended by the manufacturer of the appliance may result in personal injury.

- Only use this appliance indoors, in dry areas away from water.

• Do not use the appliance outdoors or on wet surfaces, to avoid the risk of electric shock.

• Never allow unsupervised children to use electrical household appliances. Children are unable to assess the dangers associated with the incorrect use of electrical appliances.
  • Children who are close to the appliance or who are using it must always be kept under adult supervision.
  • Never leave the appliance unattended whilst it is in use.
• Never turn the appliance on when it does not contain water.

• Never top up an empty water reservoir with water while the appliance is turned on. This will cause the appliance to emit hot steam.

• Do not hold your hand above the lid during use. Hot steam can escape through the holes.

• Never attempt to open the lid while making coffee. There is a risk of burning or scalding yourself.
• Only pick up the appliance by its handle, certain parts of the appliance become hot during use. You may suffer a serious burn if you touch hot parts of the appliance.
  • Pay attention to steam and hot coffee during use.

Please do not touch the surface while the appliance is in use. The accessible surface may become hot when the appliance is switched on.

OPERATION

This coffee maker allows you to make up to 6 cups of coffee. You can fill the removable permanent filter directly, without having to use any paper filters. The appliance is equipped with a handy pause-and-serve function, so that no coffee will come out of the filter if the pot is removed during the coffee making process.

USING FOR THE FIRST TIME

• Remove all packaging from the appliance.
• Clean the appliance, see 'Cleaning and Maintenance'.
• The first time, switch the coffee maker on with a full water reservoir but without coffee, in accordance with the procedure in 'Using the appliance', in order to clean the appliance.
• Switch the appliance off using the on/off switch.
  • Pour the water in the pot away.
• Allow the appliance to cool down for a few minutes.
• Continue with the procedure in 'Using the appliance'.

USING THE APPLIANCE

• Fill the pot with water.
- Pour the water from the pot into the water reservoir. The water level indicator shows you how much water is required for the desired number of cups of coffee. The water level must not go above the 'max' mark.
- Close the lid.

NOTE

- If you accidentally put too much water in the reservoir, it overflows at the rear. Make sure that the appliance, the plug, the power cord and the work surface are thoroughly dry before you use the appliance.

• Turn the pivoting filter to the side.
- Fill the removable permanent filter with the desired quantity of ground coffee (use approximately 5-6 g of ground coffee per cup).
- Turn the pivoting filter back into the appliance.
- Place the empty coffee pot on the heating plate.

NOTE

- The appliance has a pause-and-serve function. Therefore always place the original coffee pot in the appliance. The lid presses the pause-and-serve valve upwards so the water can flow.

• Insert the plug into the mains power socket.
• Turn the on/off button to 'I'. The button is illuminated in red when the coffee maker is switched on. While the coffee is flowing, you can pour a cup of coffee. The pause-and-serve valve in the filter holder will prevent the coffee from flowing. As soon as you put the pot back in position, the coffee begins flowing again.
• After use, turn the on/off button to '0'. The red indicator light in the button goes off. This also switches off the heating plate.
  • After use, remove the plug from the wall socket.
  • Turn the pivoting filter to the side.
• Use the handle to remove the filter with the coffee dregs.
  • Empty the filter and rinse it out.
• Put the filter back into the pivoting filter and rotate it back into the appliance.
• Allow the appliance to cool down for at least 5 minutes before making coffee again. It will then be safe to refill the water reservoir.

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

Warning:

Before cleaning the appliance, always switch it off, unplug it from the electricity supply and allow it to cool down completely.

Cleaning

• Do not clean the appliance with an aggressive or abrasive cleaner or with a sharp object, such as a hard brush or a knife.
• Remove the coffee dregs from the filter.
• Clean the exterior of the appliance with a damp cloth.
  • Dry the outside with a dry cloth.
• Wash the coffee pot and the permanent filter in hot water with a small amount of washing-up liquid.
  • Dry these components thoroughly.

Regularly descale the appliance. Depending on the hardness of the water, scale deposits may become attached to the inside of the appliance. The harder the water, the more often it is necessary to descale the appliance.

Descaling

• Use a descaling product intended for household appliances (such as coffee makers).
• Follow the instructions on the package.
• After descaling, switch the coffee maker on a few times with a full water reservoir but without ground coffee, in accordance with the procedure in 'Using the appliance'. This removes any remaining limescale and residues of the descaling agent.

Store the appliance in a dry place.

WARRANTY CONDITIONS

• Best Budget cannot be held liable for damage:
o as a result of a fall or accident;
o if the appliance has been technically modified by the user or third-parties;
o due to improper use of the appliance;
o due to normal wear and tear.

• Always retain your proof of purchase, without this proof of purchase you will not be able to make a claim on any form of warranty.
• In the event of damage caused as a result of a failure to observe the instructions, any warranty rights are voided! Best Budget cannot be held liable for any consequential damages arising out of this.
• Best Budget cannot be held liable for damage to property or personal injury caused by improper use or a failure to observe safety regulations. In such instances, any warranty claim shall be voided.
• Other than cleaning, as set out in these instructions, no maintenance to this appliance is necessary.
• If repairs need to be carried out, these may only be carried out by an authorised company.
  • The product may not be modified or altered.
• If problems should occur within 2 years of the date of purchase, which are covered by the manufacturer's warranty, you can present the appliance at your point of sale in exchange for a replacement.
• In case of any queries or complaints, please register these at your point of sale.
• This appliance has a 24 month warranty effective from the date of purchase (sales receipt).
• Only defects in materials and/or workmanship shall qualify in respect of this warranty.

• If you wish to make your warranty claim, then please ensure that you hand in the appliance in its entirety and in its original box together with proof of purchase to your point of sale.
• Damage to accessories or parts does not automatically infer that the entire appliance shall be replaced. In such instances, you must contact our service department. Broken glass/plastic parts or accessories are not covered by the warranty. It will always be possible to arrange for their replacement for a fee.
• Faults to accessories or to parts subject to wear, including cleaning, maintenance or the replacement of parts subject to wear are not covered by the warranty and will not therefore be considered!
  • The warranty is voided in cases of unauthorised handling.
• Following expiry of the warranty, repairs can be performed by the authorised dealer or repair service for a fee for the ensuing costs.

- This product may not be disposed of with normal household waste at the end of its service life, but must be handed into to a special collection point for the recycling of electrical and electronic appliances. The symbol on the item, instructions and packaging alerts you of this. The materials that have been used are suitable for recycling. You will be making an important contribution to the protection of our environment by recycling used appliances or materials. Find out from your local authority which is the designated collection point.
