  • Read this instruction manual carefully before starting the appliance and store it for future reference. Failure to observe and comply with these instructions may lead to an accident.

Tips and safety measures

  • This appliance can be used by people unused to its handling, disabled people or children aged from 8 years and above if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance in a safe way and understand the hazards involved. Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be made by children of less than 8 unless they are supervised.
  • This appliance is not a toy. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
  • Keep the appliance and its cable out of reach of children under the age of eight.

  • The temperature of the accessible surfaces may be high when the appliance is in use.

  • Never modify the electrical socket, or use adapters, programmers or electrical extension cords

  • Only use the appliance with the base and accessories that are supplied with it.

  • Do not submerge the appliance in water or any other liquid, or place it under a running tap.

  • Always observe the Min. and Max. levels of the fondue pot before and during use of the appliance. NEVER turn the appliance on when empty.

  • Make sure that the liquids (oil, cheese, broth, chocolate) contained in the fondue pot do not overheat as this may damage the appliance.

Never use the appliance if it has been dropped, has visible signs of damage or if the power cable or socket is damaged.

  • Never put your hands inside the appliance during use to avoid possible bum risks.

  • Do not attempt to repair the appliance yourself, as this could be dangerous and this may void the manufacturer's warranty. This appliance must be repaired by a qualified operator in the same way as any electronic appliance

  • Prior to connecting the appliance to the mains supply, check that the voltage indicated on the rating plate corresponds with that of the mains voltage. If not, do not connect the appliance and contact your dealer

  • The appliance should be powered through a residual

current device (RCD) with an assigned residual operational current no greater than 30mA mA

  • Connect the appliance to a socket provided with earthing and that can withstand 16 amps (for class I appliances).

  • Do not wrap the cable around the appliance.

During cooking splashing of hot liquids may occur. Do not place the appliance on fragile surfaces or near carpets, parquet floors or similar surfaces.

  • Do not store the appliance outdoors

  • Do not touch metal parts or the body when it is operating, as it may cause serious burns.

Recommendations:

  • Fully unroll the appliance's power cable before each use.

  • NEVER turn the appliance on when empty. Always observe the Min. and Max. levels of the fondue pot.

  • Do not use the appliance if the temperature dial is not working.

  • Turn the thermostat control to the minimum (MIN) setting. This does not mean that the appliance is switched off permanently.

Make sure the fondue pot is stable on the cooking plate.

  • Do not move the appliance during use; wait for it to cool down completely before moving it. The liquids contained in the fondue pot will remain hot even after use.

  • Do not cover the cooking plate with foil or other similar materials.

  • Do not flambé cook food above, below or close to the appliance.

  • Disconnect the appliance from the mains and allow it to cool before undertaking any bulb changing operation, cleaning task or storage.

  • This appliance is for household use only, not professional or industrial use.

  • Keep the appliance in a dry, well-ventilated place, free of dust and protected from direct sunlight.

  • Do not leave the appliance running if you are going out.

  • Never leave plates, cutlery or other plastic utensils on the cooking plate or on top of the fondue pot.

  • Do not use the appliance to dry pets or animals or textiles of any kind.

  • Only use the accessories provided and recommended by the manufacturer as the use of other accessories may be dangerous and may damage the appliance.

  • Never use the electric wire to lift up, carry or unplug the appliance.

  • Do not store or transport the appliance if it is still hot. Allow it to cool before handling it.

  • Do not leave the appliance running if you are going out. Always check that it is switched off before leaving the house.

  • Any misuse or failure to follow the instructions for use renders the guarantee and the manufacturer's liability null and void.

  • If for any reason the appliance is on fire, immediately disconnect it from the mains, ensure there is no presence of air currents that could stoke the fire and put out the flames with the help of a lid, or other non-flammable items, NEVER using water.

Installation

Make sure you have removed all packing material. In order to prevent possible risk of accidents, do not leave items such as plastic bags, polystyrene or cables within the reach of children.

  • Fully unroll the appliance's power cable before each use.
  • Clean the appliance following the appliance cleaning instructions in this manual.
  • Place the appliance on a flat, stable surface that can withstand the weight and heat emitted from the appliance.
  • Place the fondue pot on the cooking plate.

Use

The appliance may give off a small amount of smoke the first time you use it. This is due to the products used to protect the elements. This is perfectly normal and completely harmless.

  • Plug the appliance in; the temperature dial light will come on.

  • Use the temperature dial to select the desired

temperature between the Min. and Max. levels.

  • After a few minutes heating up the temperature dial light will go off to indicate that the appliance has reached the selected temperature. During use, the light will switch on and off automatically to maintain the necessary temperature.
  • Fill the fondue pot according to the recipe you are preparing.
  • Cooking recommendations:

  • For the bourguignonne fondue keep the temperature on the «Max.» position.

  • For the chinese fondue keep the temperature in the medium position.
  • For the savoyarde fondue keep the temperature on the «Min.» position. During cooking, periodically stir the contents using wooden utensils or plastic utensils capable of withstanding high temperatures in order to maintain a smooth texture.

Warning: Try to make sure the temperature selected is just sufficient to boil the liquid, adjusting this if necessary. Never fill the fondue pot to above the Max. level to avoid possible overflowing.

  • Use the forks supplied with the set and try not to scratch the inside of the fondue pot to avoid the premature deterioration of the appliance.

  • This appliance is equipped with an overheating safety device which protects it from possible damage due to overheating. This safety device switches the appliance off in the event of overheating. If this should happen, unplug the appliance and wait for it to cool down completely before using it again.

  • After using the appliance, set the temperature dial to the «Min.» position.
  • Unplug the appliance.

Cleaning

Always wait for the appliance to cool down completely before cleaning or handling it. We recommend cleaning all parts of the appliance after each use.

Never clean the appliance while it is running. Do not use abrasive cleaning products.

  • After switching the appliance off and unplugging it, and once it has cooled down completely, remove the fondue pot, base and forks and clean thoroughly. Never use metal scrubbing brushes or tools that might scratch the appliance. No part of the fondue set (the fondue pot, base or forks) may be washed in a dishwasher.
  • If convenient, the base of the fondue set may be cleaned with a wet cloth. Never submerge the heating element or the temperature dial in water or any other liquid.
  • Check that all the parts are completely dry before putting the appliance away.

Recipe

RED WINE FONDUE

Serves 6

  • 1.8kg of beef specially for fondue
  • Dipping sauce

For the marinade:

  • 150g mushrooms
  • 150g pork scratches
  • 1 onion
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1 small bunch of herbs
  • 150cl of red wine

  • Dice the beef and store in the fridge. Remove it from the fridge 20 minutes before serving.

  • Cook the chopped onion, pork scratches and halved, degermed garlic cloves in a pan until golden.
  • Add the mushrooms.
  • Mix well and add the wine. Add the herbs.
  • Bring to the boil then lower the heat.
  • Simmer over a low heat without covering for 45 minutes.
  • Pour the mixture into the fondue pot.
    Each diner gets a piece of meat on their fork and dips it in the sauce in the fondue pot for the desired cooking time.

Hint: At the end of the meal, don't throw the sauce away! Heat the liquid up in a pan and cook peeled soft-boiled eggs in it. Serve on a plate with a green salad garnish.

BOURGUIGNONNE FONDUE

Serves 6

  • 1.8kg of beef specially for fondue
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 1 litre of frying oil or oil specially for fondue
  • 1 small bunch of herbs
  • Salt
  • Dipping sauces

  • Dice the beef.

  • Heat the oil in a pan and add the herbs.
  • Rub the inside of the fondue pot with the clove of garlic, add a pinch of salt.
  • When the oil's hot, carefully pour it into the fondue pot.
  • WARNING: hot oil may cause serious burns; take all necessary precautions before pouring the oil into the fondue pot and keep children away during handling. Do not pour the oil near fragile and/or flammable materials.
    Each diner gets a piece of meat on their fork and dips it in the sauce in the fondue pot for the desired cooking time.

CHINESE FONDUE

Serves 6

  • 450g beef

-1 carrot

  • 1 table spoon soy sauce

  • 450g chicken

-1 onion

  • 1 table spoon ginger powder

  • 450g fresh salmon or tuna

  • 1 / 2 a leek

-A few sesame grains

  • 450g raw prawns

  • 50g dried black mushrooms

  • 1 litre of hot beef or chicken stock

  • 1/2 stalk lemongrass

  • Dice the beef, chicken and salmon or tuna.

  • Peel the prawns and store them in the fridge.

  • Pour the stock into the fondue pot and heat on medium.

  • Add the vegetables, chopped onion and lemongrass, soy sauce, ginger and sesame grains.

  • Stir well and cook over a low heat for twenty minutes.

  • Each diner gets a piece of meat or fish on their fork and dips it in the sauce in the fondue pot for the desired cooking time.

SAVOYARDE FONDUE

Serves 6

  • 500g Beaufort cheese

  • 1 litre of dry white wine

  • 3 baguettes (from yesterday on the day before)

  • 500g Emmental cheese

  • 1 small glass of kirsch

  • 500g Tomme de Savoie cheese

  • 1/2 a teaspoon grated nutmeg

  • Salt, pepper

  • Remove the rind from the cheese and dice.

  • Pour the wine into the fondue pot and heat on medium power for ten minutes.

  • When the wine is hot, gradually add the cheese and let it melt, stirring in a figure 8 with a wooden spoon to achieve a smooth texture.

  • Add the salt, nutmeg and then the kirsch.

  • Dice the bread.

Each diner gets a piece of bread on their fork and dips it in the sauce in the fondue pot until the bread is covered in cheese, without it falling inside.

Hints: Instead of bread you can use cubes of baked potato. The savoyarde fondue goes well with cold meats and green salad. If you want to make the mixture more digestible, dissolve a teaspoon of cornflour in the kirsch before adding it.

CHOCOLATE FONDUE

Serves 6

  • 500g dark cooking chocolate

  • Fresh fruit, diced

  • 1 lemon

  • 50cl pouring cream

  • Soft, jelly-type sweets

  • Grate the chocolate

  • Dice the fruit, put it into bowls and sprinkle with lemon juice.
  • Heat the cream, gradually add the chocolate, constantly stirring with a wooden spoon.
    Each diner gets a piece of fruit or a sweet and dips it in the fondue pot until it is covered in chocolate.

Hint: serve in bowls with decorative ingredients like crushed hazelnut or multi-coloured sweets to give it a special touch.
