Frequently Asked Questions - Unimove TT Pewag

How to mount Unimove TT chains with the mounting cable?
Spread the chain in front of the wheel, place the tension lever outward. Lay the cable diagonally on the tire, hook the chain into the hook. Move the vehicle forward one wheel revolution. Unhook the cable, then close the chain first on the inside then on the outside. Hook the closing hook onto the tread. Tighten the tension chain with the lever and secure it with the ring.
How to mount the chains without cable (quick mounting)?
Grasp the inner chain, slide it towards the inside of the wheel and distribute it. Move the vehicle forward about 1/4 turn. Then follow steps 3 to 7 of mounting with cable.
How to remove the chains?
Unhook the tension spring, open the tension lever, release the tension chain. Detach the closing hooks starting from the outside, then remove the chain from the wheel.
What is the maximum speed allowed with these chains?
The maximum speed is 50 km/h on a well-snowy road. On a partially cleared road, drive more slowly.
How to maintain the chains after use?
Rinse the chains with hot water to remove salt and dirt, then wipe them. Ensure quick drying to prevent rust. If they are heavily rusted, have them regalvanized.
What to do if the chains are rusted?
If rust is light, clean and dry. If rust is severe, have the chains regalvanized by a professional.
Can I use the chains on worn tires?
Yes, but adaptability can be improved by shortening the inner chain. Distribute the shortenings regularly so that the sections have the same length.
How to shorten the inner chain if necessary?
Distribute the shortening points regularly on the inner chain. After shortening, the sections should have the same length if possible.
What are the warranty conditions?
The warranty is 6 months from the date of purchase, upon presentation of the invoice. It covers manufacturing defects. Damages due to normal wear or incorrect use are excluded.
What to do if a link is worn or broken?
Do not use the chain if a link shows wear of half the wire diameter. Repairs must be carried out by qualified personnel with original spare parts (hardened repair rings).

USER MANUAL Unimove TT Pewag

Mounting anti-skid chain with mounting cable

  1. Spread out chain in front of or behind the tire and arrange properly. Tension lever, tension spring and tension chain outward! Put mounting cable at an angle across the top half of the tire. Hook anti-skid chain into mounting hook.
  2. Drive slowly one complete turn of the wheel onto the chain, thereby pulling the chain onto the tire. Loosen anti-skid chain by unhooking the rings and/or mounting hook. Remove mounting cable.
  3. Connect the Anti-skid chain first on the inside then on the outside of the tire.
  4. Connect the attachment links for the tread net.
    • The attachment links must be connected so that the flattened section of each part is
5A in contact with the road. When correctly fitted both flats must be visible.
  5. The chain is now properly connected.
  6. Tighten tension chain on the outside of the wheel and insert tension lever into the next link of the tension chain. Secure tension lever with the ring. Hang loose chain end into the side chain.

Usual quick-assembly without mounting cable

  1. Take inner chain, lift chain up, push it backwards and spread evenly over the tire.
  2. Drive approx. 1/4 of a wheel's turn onto the chain.
  3. Further mounting like mounting with mounting cable, point 3 - 7.

Demounting of anti-skid chains

  • Unhook tension spring
  • Open tension lever
  • Loosen tension chain
  • Loosen closing hook (starting on the outside of the wheel)
  • Pull chain off of the wheel

Care of chains

Following the use of the chains, make sure that they are dried rapidly. Mud and dirt-covered chains should be rinsed in hot water and then dried. Badly used chains should be re-galvanized.

Adjustment:

When the tires are worn, the fit of the chains can be improved by shortening the inside chain. Distribute shortening places regularly - after shortening the various inside chain sections should have the same length, if possible.

b) 2 hardened repair rings + hardened chain piece

Regular inspection of condition: Turn the chains when one side of the links is worn down by 1/3 of the wire diameter. Exception: Chains with welded wear studs.

Warning against misuse

Legal regulations require that these warnings are attached although many of them will seem self-evident to you.

But always keep in mind that these instructions have to be observed on any condition and that we will not assume liability for any damage resulting, even in part, from the non-observance of these instructions. By using the anti-skid-chains, you and your staff declare to have taken notice of and will observe these warnings and that you will not assert any claims against the manufacturer, importer or retailer in case of non-observance.

Non-observance of the following instructions may cause substantial damage to persons or property (road accidents) with severe consequences.

  1. Anti-skid chains should only be used for mounting on vehicle tires. These chains as well as the spare parts are case-hardened, thus being wear-resistant, and must not be used for pulling, lifting or other purposes.
  2. Only mount the chains on tires of the dimensions specified on the respective label of the package. Chains fit new tires corresponding to the ETRTO standards mounted on adequate rims. Retreaded tires are often larger and the perfect fit of the chains has to be checked in each case. Please consider the recommendations of the vehicle manufacturer. If the chain does not fit perfectly it must not be used. Check the inflation pressure according to the instructions of the vehicle manufacturer. The air pressure must not be reduced before the mounting and then increased again as this could lead to damage (breakage, cracks) of chain and tire due to over-tension.
  3. Check the chains before use. If parts of the chain are damaged or broken the chain must not be used. Do not mount chains worn by more than one half of the diameter of the wire, even if only one link is affected.
  4. Chains must always be mounted in pairs on an axle.
  5. Read the mounting instructions carefully. Non-observance of the mounting instructions may result in malfunctions of the chains and damage to the car and may increase the risk of accident.
  6. Before using the car always check if the chains have been mounted correctly.
  7. After a short driving distance (approx. 50 to 100 meters) the perfect and centric fit of the chains has to be checked. Retension chains if necessary.
  8. Tension the anti-skid-chains only as tight as necessary. Excessive tensioning may cause damage to chain and tire.
  9. Make sure that after the mounting no part of the chain grazes parts of the vehicle.
  10. On a surface completely covered with snow the driving speed should not exceed 50~km / h ; drive considerably slower if the road is partly free of snow. Maximum Speed 50~km / h .
  11. Avoid spinning of the chains. Increased wear would lead to greater damage to the chain.
  12. Check condition and wear of the chains during travel (at intervals of 20km or after longer

periods of driving on roads free of snow).

  1. Repairs of damaged chains and modifications to suit a different size should only be carried out by qualified personnel.
  2. Only use original spares for repairs.
