Operating Elements

1 Shredder attachment
2 Sliding switch
3 Paper infeed with cutting mechanism
4 Cable
5 Pullout (to place the shredder attachment on other, larger bins)
6 Waste bin

Starting Up
Remove the device carefully from the packaging.
Place the paper shredder on a level surface.
Place the shredder attachment on the waste bin supplied or position it on another suitable bin with the aid of the pullout rails.
Assembling the shredder attachment on the waste bin supplied
Set the shredder attachment on the waste bin supplied so that it snaps into place with an audible click.
Assembling the shredder attachment on another waste bin
Draw out the pullout on the right-hand side of the shredder attachment and then assemble it on another suitable waste bin with a level surface.
Note: The shredder attachment must not wobble!
Connecting the power supply
Connect the power plug to a power socket. Pay attention to the information regarding power supply on the rear side of the device for the necessary precautions.
Important information: The power socket and power connection on the device must be freely accessible for reasons of safety, namely to enable the power supply to be disconnected quickly in an emergency!
Set the sliding switch to Auto.
Operation
Sliding switch
The sliding switch is used to control the cutting mechanism in the paper shredder. The switch can be set to three positions:
Position Rev: Continuous reverse running.
Position Fwd: Continuous forward running.
Position Auto: The device is ready to operate. The cutting mechanism automatically starts to run forwards as soon as paper is inserted in the paper infeed and detected by the mechanical sensor. The paper is then drawn in automatically. The cutting mechanism continues to run approx. 2 to 4 seconds after the last sheet of paper has been inserted. The device then switches off automatically.
Shredding paper
- Set the sliding switch to Auto or Fwd.
- Insert paper from the top and straight into the paper infeed (max. 5 sheets A4, 80g / m^2 ).
Note: Do not exceed the sheet capacity recommended in the technical data, otherwise the paper will jam! Do not forget that the thickness of the paper increases when folded, as a result of which the recommended sheet capacity can be exceeded. Also reduce the quantity of paper when shredding coarse paper.
Emptying the waste bin
It is recommended not to allow the waste bin to fill up until the cuttings reach the cutting mechanism. This prevents the shredded paper congesting and jamming in the cutting mechanism.
Empty the waste bin regularly. Ensure that the sliding switch is set to Auto and disconnect the power plug!
Clearing a Paper Jam
If too much paper is fed into the cutting mechanism, a paper jam occurs.
Proceed as follows:
-
Move the sliding switch to Rev (Reverse).
-
The cutting mechanism runs in reverse and pushes the paper back out.
- Remove the paper and reduce the quantity of paper being fed in.
- Move the sliding switch back to Auto.
Continue with the shredding process.
If the jam is not cleared by the reverse/forward running process, disconnect the power plug and remove the remaining material from the cutting mechanism manually.
Motor Protection
The motor switches off automatically in the event of an overload. Disconnect the power plug from the power socket and let the motor cool down for 30 to 40 minutes to room temperature. Then connect the power plug to the power socket again and continue operation.
Maintenance and Service
Caution: maintenance work may only be performed when the mains plug is pulled out.
Clean the housing with a slightly moist cloth.
Do not use any aggressive cleaning agents. Never use any chemicals (e.g. cleaning solvent, alcohol) to clean the housing.
To ensure your shredder enjoys a long working life, we recommend to clear residual material from the cutting units at regular intervals and apply special oil for paper shredders to the cutting unit. You can purchase a special CFC-free oil from your specialist retailer or directly from our Service Center in Hattingen. This will extend the service life of the device.
Attention: It is forbidden to use oil spray bottles containing CFC!

Faults
| Problem | Cause | Solution |
| The device does not operate when paper has been inserted. | Power plug is not properly connected in the power socket. | Insert the plug properly. |
| The paper is too thin and, as a result, does not touch the mechanical sensor. | Try using thicker paper. If the device then operates, fold the thin paper and try shredding it again. | |
| The motor has overheated and switched off automatically. It is possible that paper has jammed in the cutting mechanism. | Clearing a paper jam: 1. Move the sliding switch to its Rev (Reverse) position to dislodge and remove the jammed paper. 2. If this proves ineffective, disconnect the power plug. Remove the shredder attachment and remove any jammed paper from the cutting mechanism manually. Wait 30-40 minutes (until the motor has cooled down) and try to use the shredder again. | |
| The device does not shred. | Too many sheets have been inserted in the feed. | Move the sliding switch to its Rev (Reverse) position to remove the jammed paper. Then insert maximally 5 sheets of A4 (80 g/m²) (unfolded). |
| The paper size inserted was too large (larger than A4). | ||
| The paper was inserted crooked. | Move the sliding switch to its Rev (Reverse) position to remove the jammed paper. Insert the paper as straight as possible. | |
| The device does not stop after the shredding process has finished. | The sliding switch is set to Fwd. | Move the sliding switch to Auto (Automatic operation). |
| Paper has caught at the mechanical sensor. | Remove the paper from the cutting mechanism (refer to "Clearing a Paper Jam"). | |
| The device makes loud noises. | The device does not stand on a level surface. | Set the device down on a level surface. |
If you cannot clear the fault yourself, contact your dealer or call the Olympia hotline.
