Please read the information below to become familiar with your appliance fast and make a full use of its functions.

Your appliance will serve your needs for many years to come provided you handle it and maintain with due care.

Details of this instruction manual

This user manual forms an integral part of the Fresh Joy Café coffee machine with grinder (hereinafter referred to as the appliance) and contains important information for startup, safety, intended use, cleaning and care of the appliance.

The instruction manual has to be kept near the unit at all times. It has to be read and observed by all persons entrusted with operation, troubleshooting and/or cleaning of the device.

Keep this user manual in a safe place and pass it on to any future owners together with the device.

Fundamental safety precautions

Check up the appliance for visible outside damage. Do not use a damaged device.

Children have to be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.

Do not leave the device unattended during operation.

Always pull the mains lead out of the plug socket at the plug, not at the mains lead.

This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.

Repairs to the device have to be carried out by an authorised specialist or by the works customer service only; this particularly applies for replacing a damaged connecting cable. Unqualified repairs result in considerable danger for the user. In addition, the warranty will be void.

Repairs to the device during the warranty period may only be carried out by service centres authorised by the manufacturer as the warranty will otherwise be voided in the event of damage or subsequent damage.

  • Faulty parts have to be replaced with original spare parts only. Only such parts can ensure that safety requirements will be honoured.

Never operate the appliance without water, otherwise the appliance will be damaged.

  • Apart from water, do not fill any other liquids or food in the water tank of the appliance.

Do not pour any water into the water tank of the appliance as long as it is still hot. Brimming over can cause scalding.

  • Do not put the coffee pot onto a gas flame or an electroplate.

Do not put the coffee pot into a microwave oven.

Observe the following safety precautions to avoid any danger: Packaging never has to be used to play with. There is a risk of asphyxiation.

Observe the information on the demands on the installation location and on the electrical connection of the appliance to avoid personal injury and material damage.

Unpacking

Remove the device, all accessory parts and the user manual from the box.

Before using for the first time, remove all packaging materials and the protective film from the device and accessories.

NOTE

Do not remove the rating plate or any warning signs on the appliance.

Delivery contents and transport inspection

As standard, the appliance is supplied with the components and accessories described in the appliance overview.

NOTE

Check if delivered complete and with no visible defects.

Report an incomplete or damaged delivery to your supplier/ retailer immediately.

Disposing of the packaging

The packaging protects the appliance from transport damage. The packaging material was chosen in consideration of the aspects of environmental friendliness and disposal technology involved, and thus is recyclable.

Recycling the packaging material for further use saves raw materials and reduces waste. When no longer required, dispose of the packaging materials in accordance with the local regulations in force.

NOTE

If possible, keep the original packaging during the warranty period in order to be able to pack the appliance properly in the event of a warranty claim. Transport damage will invalidate the warranty.

Requirements for the place of use

For safe and trouble-free operation of the appliance, the installation location has to satisfy the following requirements:

Place the appliance on a dry, flat, waterproof and heat-resistant surface.

The surface finishes on furniture may contain constituents that can be detrimental to the rubber feet of the appliance. If necessary, place a mat under the feet of the appliance.

Do not place the appliance in a hot, wet or very humid environment or in the vicinity of inflammable materials.

  • Select a location that does not allow children to reach the hot surfaces of the device.

The appliance is not intended for installation in cupboards.

The plug socket used has to be easily accessible in order to be able to disconnect the appliance from the electric circuit quickly in the event of an emergency.

Electrical connection

For safe and trouble-free operation of the appliance, the following instructions have to be observed for the electrical connection:

Before connecting the device, compare the connection data (voltage and frequency) on the rating plate with those of your mains power supply. The data have to correspond in order to avoid damage to the appliance. If in doubt, ask your electrical device retailer.

The mains socket has to be protected by at least a 10 A circuit breaker.

If the appliance is to be connected to the power supply via an extension lead, the cable cross-section has to be at least 1.5mm^2

Ensure that the mains cable is undamaged and is not laid over hot surfaces or sharp edges.

The mains cable must not be pulled tightly, bent or come into contact with the hot appliance or hot surfaces.

Place the cable in such a way as to avoid danger from tripping.

The electrical safety of the device is only assured when it is connected to a properly installed protective earth (PE) conductor system. Connection to a plug socket without PE conductor is forbidden. If in doubt, have the house installation checked by a qualified electrician.

The manufacturer assumes no liability for injury or damage caused by a missing or interrupted protective earth conductor.

Before using for the first time

NOTE

Activate the display lighting by pressing any key.

Wipe the appliance and the accessories with a slightly damp cloth.

Clean the coffee pot (6) with warm water and washing-up liquid.

Fill the water tank (3) with fresh water up to mark 10 as described in the section Filling with water.

Rinse the permanent filter (10) and the grinder (11) with clear water.

Fill the appliance with coffee powder or coffee beans as described in the section Filling with coffee.

Place the coffee pot (6) with lid on the hot plate (7).

Press the button (19) (for coffee powder) or the button (18) (for coffee beans) in order to start the brewing process or the grinding and brewing process.

Wait until the all the water has run through and the indicator lamp 22) or (21 has gone off.

Empty the coffee pot (6) and pour the coffee away.

Clean the coffee pot (6) with warm water and washing-up liquid.

Clean the grinder and the permanent filter as described in the section Cleaning and maintenance.

NOTE

During the initial period of use, odour may be produced by the materials used in the appliance. The odour will diminish after a short period of time.

Only fill the water tank with water and never with coffee

beans or coffee power.

Switching on the display lighting

The blue display lighting goes out 15 seconds after the last keypress except when the appliance is in operation, e.g. coffee is being brewed or kept warm.

Press any key to switch on the display lighting.

NOTE

If you press the button (19) or the button (18), the unit starts the brewing and/or grinding process.

Setting the time

Insert the plug into the mains socket. The time 12:00 starts flashing on the display.

Press the button (20) once. The time is displayed above Clock.

Set the hours by pressing the 00:-- button (16).
Set the minutes by pressing the -:00 button (17). For fast forward hold the button 006 or (17) pressed. The clock display disappears automatically a few seconds after the last button has been pressed and the time is set.

NOTE

The time can be set only, if Clock is displayed.

The time will be stored until either a new time is entered or the plug is removed from the socket for more than a minute.

Removing the grinder

Press the release to open the lid (1) of the filter compartment. Error message E1 is displayed and two short signal sounds are released three times.

Press the grinder (11) down and turn anti-clockwise at the same time until the marking points to the unbolted lock.

Remove the grinder (11) from the filter compartment (8).

Removing the permanent filter

Remove the grinder from the unit as described in the section Removing the grinder.

Turn the permanent filter (10) clockwise out of the locking system. Please observe the marking on the outside of the grinder (11).

Remove the permanent filter (10) from the grinding unit (11).

Place the permanent filter (10) in the grinder (11).

Please observe the marking on the outside of the grinder.

Turn the permanent filter counter- clockwise until locked.

Place the grinder (11) in the filter compartment (8). Please observe the marking when opening the filter compartment: The marking points to unlatched lock.

Press the grinder down slightly and turn clockwise at the same time until locking into place. The marking now points to the bolted lock.

Close the lid (1) of the filter compartment.

NOTE

Ensure a correct sit of the permanent filter and of the grinder. If the permanent filter and/or grinder are placed in the wrong way and if the lid of the filter compartment is closed in this position, the ground coffee may block the water flow. The filter compartment may overflow.

E1 starts flashing the display, if the filter compartment has not been closed properly, and E2 starts flashing when the permanent filter has not been fitted correctly. The unit can be operated only with a correctly fitted permanent filter and when the lid of the filter compartment has been closed.

Filling coffee

Remove the grinder from the unit as described in the section Removing the grinder.

Open the filter lid (9).

Fill the requested quantity of coffee beans and/or coffee powder.

Recommendation: 4 to 6 g of coffee beans or coffee powder per cup.

NOTE

Please observe the marks in the permanent filter for the maximum fill of coffee. It is used as a reference point.

Close the filter lid (9).

Place the grinder in the unit as described in the section Placing the grinder.

Filling with water

Open the lid (2) of the water tank.

Only fill the amount of water required for the desired number of cups.

NOTE

Do not overfill the water tank! It has been fitted with an overflow which drains the water to the outside in case of overfill.

Close the lid (2) of the water tank.

Instructions for brewing coffee

Requirements for aromatic coffee

In order to prepare aromatic coffee, please observe the following instructions:

If possible, use freshly ground coffee powder for the optimum flavour.

Experiment with the amount of coffee beans and/or coffee powder until you find the flavour you prefer.

  • Fill the water tank with the amount fresh water required for the desired number of cups.

Empty and clean the grinder as well as the permanent filter after every use.

Clean and descale the unit in regular intervals, at the latest when the red indicator lamp 15) is lit. A dirty and/or scaled appliance impairs the aroma.

Although the hot plate on which the coffee pot stands can keep the coffee hot for about two hours, we recommend that you pour brewed coffee into a thermos jug and switch off the appliance.

NOTE

When the appliance is in operation, the coffee pot (6) has to be under the filter compartment (8). The coffee pot pushes the drip protector up and the coffee can flow from the filter into the coffee pot.

The drip protector prevents water running out of the filter when the coffee pot (6) is removed from the appliance. During the brewing process however, the coffee pot (6) should not be removed from the appliance for more than 30 seconds, otherwise the filter will fill up and the coffee will flow over.

NOTE

  • Whilst brewing coffee using coffee beans, the button (19) is blocked.

Fill the water tank with water as described in the section Filling with water.

Fill the appliance with coffee as described in the section Filling with coffee beans.

Press the button (18) to start the grinding and brewing process. The blue indicator lamp 1) is lit during the entire grinding and brewing process.

After completing the brewing process, the coffee is kept warm on the hot plate for about two hours. Afterwards the unit is switched off automatically.

Stopping the brewing process

Press the button (18) to break off the grinding and brewing process. Press this button again to switch the unit off; the blue indicator lamp 21) goes off.

NOTE

  • Whilst brewing coffee using coffee powder, the button (18) is blocked.

Programming the preset time

Press the button (20) twice. The time is displayed above the Timer.

Use the 00:-- button (16) and --:00 (17) to set the requested starting time.

For fast forward, keep the 00 button (16) or the button (17) pressed.

The clock display disappears automatically a few seconds after the last button has been pressed and the start time for brewing coffee has been set.

For brewing coffee with coffee powder:

Fill the water tank with water as described in the section Filling with water.

Fill the appliance with coffee powder as described in the section Filling with coffee.

Press the button (19) twice to activate the timer. The yellow indicator lamp (14) is lit and the green indicator lamp (22) is flashing.

NOTE

  • When the button (19) is pressed once only, the timer is not activated and the appliance starts the brewing process immediately.

When the preset time has been reached, the unit switches off automatically and starts the brewing process. The yellow indicator lamp (14) goes off and the green indicator lamp (21) is lit continuously.

For brewing coffee with coffee beans:

Fill the water tank with water as described in the section Filling with water.

Press the button (18) twice to activate the timer. The yellow indicator lamp 14) is lit and the blue indicator lamp 21) is flashing.

NOTE

  • When the button (18) is pressed once only, the timer is not activated and the appliance starts the grinding process immediately.

When the preset time has been reached, the unit switches off automatically and starts the grinding process followed by the brewing process. The yellow indicator lamp 14) goes off and the blue indicator lamp 21) is lit continuously.

Stopping the preset timer

In order to stop the timer, press one of the following buttons:

The yellow indicator lamp 4) goes off and the appliance starts brewing the coffee with coffee beans.

Button (19)

The yellow indicator lamp 4) goes off and the appliance starts brewing the coffee with coffee powder.

Carry out the following operations after each use of the appliance in order to retain proper function of the appliance and prevent mould from forming:

WARNING

Observe the following safety precautions before starting to clean the appliance:

Switch off the appliance and pull the mains plug out of the plug socket before starting cleaning.

Wait until the device has cooled down before you start to clean it.

Never immerse the appliance or the mains plug in water or other liquids.

Cleaning

CAUTION

Possible damage to the surface of the appliance!

Do not use sharp objects or abrasive cleaning agents to clean the surfaces.

Clean the grinder (11), the permanent filter (10) and the coffee pot (6) after every use.

Wipe the housing with a damp cloth. Use a little washing-up liquid to remove any stubborn stains.

Dscaling

In order not to impair the service life of the appliance and the quality of the coffee, the appliance has to be descaled at regular intervals. The descending intervals depend on the water hardness. Recommendation: Descale after about 100 coffee brews. This time is reached when the red indicator lamp (15) is lit. You can descale the unit beforehand as well.

NOTE

The red indicator (15) can be switched off also without.
descaling by pressing two random buttons at the same time.
The eletronic count starts at zero.

Fill the water tank with water to the 10 mark and add citric acid or vinegar essence (approximately 5 % acidic solution).

NOTE

If you use a commercially available descending agent, observe the manufacturer's instructions for use.

Press the button (19) for 2 seconds. The green indicator light (22) lights up and the red indicator light (15) flashes Both indicator lights extinguish after approximately 10 minutes and electronic counting resets to zero. Empty the coffee pot (6).

NOTE

If the appliance is severely scaled, it may be necessary to repeat the descending process.

Allow two tank fills of clear water to run through the appliance for rinsing.
Wash all removable parts with warm water and washing-up liquid before brewing coffee again.

Information on storage/disposal

Storage

If you do not intend to use the appliance for a longer period of time, empty and clean it as described in the section Cleaning and maintenance. Store the coffee machine and all accessory parts in a dry, clean and frost-free place which is protected against direct sunlight.

Guarantee, service and repairs

This is a quality product from BEEM and was produced using the latest manufacturing methods.

We guarantee the perfect condition of this quality product. We will remedy any faults due to material flaws or manufacturing faults free of charge within the warranty period.

The warranty period for this product is two years.

For commercial or equivalent use, e.g. in hotels, guest houses or communal premises, or if the customer is not a consumer as defined by the German Civil Code, the warranty period is 6 months. This does not infringe the warranty disclaimer.

Warranty disclaimer: The warranty does not cover faults caused in particular by improper use, failure to observe instructions in the user manual and safety precautions, use of force, modifications, unauthorised attempted repairs and attempted repairs by unqualified third parties. Faults caused by normal wear are also excluded.

If we are obliged by law to provide a warranty and will comply with such obligation – to the exclusion of the right to cancellation or price reduction – and at our discretion, repair or replace the product free of charge. Should the remedy fail despite several attempts or should the replacement product exhibit faults attributable to us, the customer shall be entitled – at his/her discretion – to reduce the purchase price or to cancel the contract of purchase. This particularly applies to returning the device or the claim for reductions as these have to be settled with respect to the purchase price. Refunding the purchase price or a credit note in the event of a reduction of the purchase price can only be handled by the retailer from whom you purchased the device.

Should faults nevertheless occur, please try to resolve the matter by telephone first. Should this not be successful, please send the carefully packed device to your retailer or to the customer service address shown below. Please state your complete address, type and model number and the serial number of the device. This information can be found on the rating plate of the device. Please describe the fault or defect in as much detail as possible. The product or spare part order should be accompanied by a printed and dated receipt of purchase or an invoice. No services under warranty can be provided for repairs, spare parts or other claims without a printed receipt of purchase or an invoice.

Outside Germany and in particular in non-EC countries, please contact your retailer or the local distributor first. Information can be obtained – preferably by e-mail – from the customer service address indicated below.

Repairs not covered by the warranty can also be performed against individual payment by customer service - outside Germany by the retailer from whom you purchased the device or by a service centre, if available.

Replacement parts and consumables can be ordered from your retailer or the stated customer service address. Please contact your dealer or the local distributor first if you live outside of Germany.
