AIR 2 ALTERNATE INFLATOR REGULATOR
U.S. PATENT 4.227.521 & WORLDWIDE PATENTS
SCUBAPRO®
AIR 2 Alternate Inflator Regulator
21 08X 000
IMPORTANT NOTICE: certified diving instruction should be obtained before using this item
Patented by SCUBAPRO, the AIR 2 is an absolute innovation in backup regulator design.
It is a combined quick disconnect, inflation/deflation device for precise buoyancy control plus a reliable demand regulator for backup emergency breathing. A quick disconnect low pressure hose is supplied that will connect to most standard first stage regulators.
WARNING (see figure)
Install the quick disconnect hose into the auxiliary low pressure outlet of the first stage regulator. Be careful on most regulators, the high pressure and low pressure outlets have the same thread and are plugged with a similar plug. On the contrary on all SCUBAPRO regulators these outlets are clearly different.
DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
A complete diving gear should consist of a primary regulator, an emergency regulator and a buoyancy device. SCUBAPRO AIR 2 provides both function of breathing and buoyancy control. Housed in one compact, lightweight package, AIR 2 incorporates a push button inflator/deflator that can be used with one hand for automatic or oral inflation.
LOCATION
Fumbling and/or hunting for the backup regulator during an emergency wastes precious seconds. The location of the AIR 2 is always the same. It is engineered for lefthand use and is positioned at the end of the buoyancy compensator hose. Because of the mounting design, the mouthpiece is always facing the diver in perfect alignment for instant use.
APPLICATION DEPENDABILITY
The problems associated with the accumulation of sand, gravel, and foreign matter inside the backup regulator have been solved in the design of the AIR 2 in two ways. First, because the AIR 2 is attached to the shorter buoyancy control hose is less likely to drag on the bottom. Second, constant flushing action partially eliminates the problem of debris accumulation.
THE QUICK DISCONNECT COUPLING
The quick disconnect coupling can be connected with or without pressure in the hose because of an automatic check valve in the hose end of the coupling which prevents leakage of air when disconnected.
OPERATION
Normal Operating Mode - Push button or oral inflation/deflation. When properly installed to the left hand shoulder of the buoyancy device, the AIR 2 can be fully operated with the left hand by depressing the buttons for inflation or deflation. These two buttons are offset and are different sizes for easy identification. The smaller button is depressed for automatic inflation. The larger button is depressed for deflation. For oral inflation, only the large deflation button is used. To inflate, the diver seals his lips on the mouthpiece, depresses the deflation button fully, then exhales into the mouthpiece and releases the button to capture the exhaled air.
CAUTIONS
In buoyancy devices equipped with CO_2 (carbon dioxide) detonators, the possibility exists under a certain set of circumstances that CO_2 could be inhaled from the device. If CO_2 has been detonated, do not depress the deflation button with the unit in the mouth or attempt to further inflate the device orally. Doing so would release CO_2 into the mouth, and it could possibly be inhaled. Flush the buoyancy device thoroughly with air or fresh water before reuse; the presence of CO_2 from a detonated cartridge should be readily noticeable because it is distastefully flavored and odored.
Emergency Breathing Mode - The AIR 2 can be used as an emergency second stage regulator, purposely designed to quickly and completely meet the needs of a diver in a stress situation. Using the AIR 2 as an emergency regulator requires minimum breathing effort and causes no variation to the buoyancy capability of the vest.
AIR 2 SPECIFICATIONS

- Diaphragm Silicone Rubber
- Exhaust Valve Silicone Rubber
- Spring Stainless Stell
- Demand Valve Brass, Chrome Plated
Performance:
Weight (less quick- disconnect and hose) 190 grams (6.7 oz.)

• Demand Regulator 906 liters/minute
• Inflator 215 liters/minute
- Deflator 368 liters/minute
Demand Valve Design Downstream, Venturi Assisted Hose Lenght 70 cms. standard
MAINTENANCE
- After use, especially in chlorinated water, the AIR 2 should be set up on a scuba tank, pressurized, and thoroughly rinsed with fresh water.
- Let water run into the mouthpiece and flow out the exhaust port.
- Prior to every dive carefully check the AIR 2 for air leakage and proper functioning.
CAUTION
DO NOT USE silicone grease on the diaphragm and/or the exhaust valve, it may cause damage to the silicone rubber.
Max Intermediate Pressure is 1.103 kPa (160 psig).
Using the AIR 2 with first stages exceeding this intermediate pressure may cause air leakage from the mouthpiece and inflation of the buoyancy vest.
