General Safety Instructions

Read the operating instructions carefully before putting the appliance into operation and keep the instructions including the warranty, the receipt and, if possible, the box with the internal packing. If you give this device to other people, please also pass on the operating instructions.

• The appliance is designed exclusively for private use and for the envisaged purpose. This appliance is not fit for commercial use. Do not use it outdoors. Special Safety Instructions for this Machine

WARNING:

Do not exceed the MAX mark when fi lling, otherwise the water may boil over and cause burns!

• The water level must be between the MAX. and MIN. marks!
• Use only cold water when filling.
• Use the appliance only on a level work surface.
  • Always ensure that the lid is tightly closed.
• Please do not open the lid when the water is boiling.
• Do not move the device and do not touch it when it is working.
• Only use the kettle with the accompanying base.
• Switch the machine off before removing it from the base.
• The base and exterior of the machine must not become wet.

Instructions

Round Scale

• You can read off the water temperature on the thermometer of the round scale.
• If the water container is empty the room temperature is displayed.

Preparation

Before using for the first time, boil fresh water at least three times in the appliance. Use only water without any additives or ingredients.

Mains Lead

Completely unwind the length of mains lead that you require from the bottom section of the base. Please ensure that the mains lead does not become tangled up.

NOTE: Always use fresh water.

Use

1. Place the machine on a fl at surface.
2. Open the kettle with the button in the handle. Fill it with water. Fill only up to the maximum mark (MAX). You can check the level on both sides of the appliance with the water level display.
3. Close the lid until you hear it lock in place.
4. Place the kettle flush on the base.

5. Electrical connection

6. Check whether the electrical voltage that you intend to use is the same as that of the machine. Details are to be found on the label on the base.

7. Only connect the machine to a properly installed 230 V, 50 Hz safety socket.

8. Switch on the kettle by pressing the switch. To control lamp lights up.

9. After boiling has finished the kettle switches off automatically, or you can push the switch upwards to interrupt or stop the boiling process.

WARNING:

If you remove the device from the base without pushing the switch up beforehand, the kettle remains switched on. Always switch the device off before you remove it from the base! Please also ensure that it is switched off when you put it back on the base.

WARNING: Danger of scalding!

• When pouring the water out, keep the lid closed.
• During operation the housing becomes hot. Do not touch it and allow the device to cool down before storing it away.

Switching off

• If you would like to turn the kettle off, push the switch upwards and remove the plug from the socket.
  • The control lamp goes off.
  • Emptying the water container.

Mains Cable Take-up Device

The mains cable can be wound up on the base.

Cleaning

WARNING:

• Always turn the device off before cleaning it and remove the mains plug. Wait until the device has cooled down.
- Never immerse the device or the base in water or other liquids.

CAUTION:

• Do not use any wire brush or other abrasive objects.
• Do not use any acidic or abrasive detergents.
• Rinse the water container out with clean water. Then dry it off with a cloth.

• Clean the housing after use with a slightly damp cloth.

• There is a permanent fi liter in the spout. In order to clean the fi liter, press it a short distance from the inside in the direction of the spout and then pull it out. Rinse out the fi liter with running water. Reinsert it, taking note of the guide mechanism. The fi liter must be heard to click into the holder.

Decalcifi cation

• The frequency of the decalcifying operation depends on the hardness of the water and on how often the appliance is used.
• If the machine switches off before the water boils, it probably needs to be decalcified.
• Please do not use vinegar but a commercially available decalcification agent on the basis of citric acid. Only use the quantities stated in the instructions.

i NOTE:

After descaling the device boil fresh water in it several times (approximately 3-4 times) in order to remove any residues. Do not consume this water.

Troubleshooting

- It is not possible to switch the machine on.

Possible Cause:

After being used without or with too little water the machine has not cooled down sufficiently. The thermostat has not yet reset.

Remedy:

Allow the machine to cool down for 15 min.

- The machine switches off before the water has boiled.

Possible Cause:

The heated base is coated with too much lime or the circuit of the plug is overloaded.

Remedy:

Descale the machine as instructed.

Check the mains connection.

• The machine does not switch off.

Possible Cause:

The lid is not closed or the fi Iter is not inserted.

Remedy:

Close the lid until it locks in place or re-insert the filter.

- The device switches itself back on when placed on the base.

Possible Cause:

The switch is turned on.

Remedy:

Press the switch upwards.
