Frequently Asked Questions - KA CM 19 D KALORIK

How to prepare coffee with the KALORIK KA CM 19 D machine?
Lift the reservoir lid (9) and pour the desired water. Open the filter holder support (6) by pressing the release button (8). Place a paper filter in the filter holder (10) and add ground coffee (about 6 g per cup). Close the support, place the carafe (4) on the heating plate (3), then turn on the appliance with the switch (1). The coffee flows and stays warm as long as the appliance is on.
How to descale my KALORIK coffee maker?
Use a special descaler for electric coffee makers, available in stores. Follow the product instructions, then rinse twice with clear water without coffee. Regular descaling is essential for the proper functioning and lifespan of the appliance.
What to do if the coffee does not flow or flows very slowly?
This indicates a need for descaling. Perform a complete descaling of the appliance. The coffee brewing time increases with limescale buildup; do not wait until the situation worsens.
Can I use reusable filters instead of paper filters?
The manual recommends using paper filters, but you can try a suitable reusable filter. However, make sure it does not protrude and ensure the filter holder support is properly closed.
Can the carafe go in the microwave?
No, the carafe of the KALORIK KA CM 19 D coffee maker must never be placed in a microwave oven to reheat coffee, as this may cause damage.
How to clean the carafe and plastic parts?
Clean the carafe with warm soapy water and rinse with clear water. For plastic parts and the heating plate, use a non-abrasive sponge or damp cloth. Do not put any parts in the dishwasher.
What to do if the power cord is damaged?
Do not use the appliance. The cable must be replaced by a qualified service to avoid any danger. Contact the manufacturer's after-sales service or an approved professional.
Can I leave the coffee maker on for a long time?
It is not recommended to leave the appliance on for more than two hours, especially with an empty carafe on the heating plate. The keep-warm function works as long as the switch is in the on position, but it is best to turn it off after use.
Why does the heating plate remain hot after turning off?
The heating plate takes some time to cool down after switching off. This is normal. Wait until it is cold before storing or cleaning the appliance.

INITIAL OPERATION

You can use both parts of the double coffee maker either separately or simultaneously.

  • When you use your appliance for the first time, pour fresh water into the water tank (without coffee) and switch on the appliance.
Once all the water has passed through, switch the appliance off and let it cool down. When it is cold enough repeat the process with fresh water. Repeat this process 3 times.

PREPARATION OF COFFEE

  • Open the lid of the water tank (9).
Pour the desired amount of water into the desired water tank. Make sure not to overfill by not exceeding the maximum number of cups of water. The number of cups can be read from the water level indicator (7).
  • Press the release knob (8) to open the housing of the filter holder (6).
  • Insert a paper filter in the filter holder (10) and add the desired quantity of ground coffee (approximately 6g per cup).
  • Never forget to close the housing of the filter holder before switching on your coffee maker.

  • Put the jug (4) with closed lid on the hotplate (3).

  • Switch on the coffee maker. The switch (1) will be illuminated, indicating that your appliance is in use. Thanks to the keep warm function, your coffee is warmed up as long as the appliance is switched on and the jug (4) is situated on the hotplate (3).
  • When the brewing process is over, remove the jug from the hotplate (the drip stop will prevent dripping); pour the desired amount of coffee and put the jug with the remaining coffee back on the hotplate.
Note: thanks to the drip stop, you can also remove the jug during the brewing process to take a cup of coffee. However, the brewing process will not be interrupted, so make sure to put the jug back on the hotplate within 30 seconds, otherwise the water might overflow out of the filter basket.
However, we advise you not to let the appliance switched on more than 2 hours and make sure that you never let an empty jug on the hotplate (3). The hotplate will only stop heating up when the switch is in OFF position.

DESCALING AND CLEANING

We advise you to descale the coffee maker to prolong its life span. For descending only use products especially made for descending of coffee makers and follow their instruction manual. Then rinse the appliance twice with fresh water, without coffee powder. Guarantee claims will not be accepted for appliances that have not been descaled.
- Never use a dishwasher to clean the jug. Just clean it in soapsuds.
To clean the plastic parts of the appliance, use a damp, non abrasive cloth.

PRACTICAL HINTS

When you notice that the coffee making process is longer than it should be, it is probably time to decalcify the appliance. Do not wait until the situation gets worse. The descending frequency depends on the amount of lime in water and therefore can be different from family to family.
