- Cooking List of contents We have designed this hob for domestic use only. With a view to constantly improving our products, we reserve the right to make technical and programming changes or modify the appearance. This hob is designed solely for cooking food. No asbestos has been used in its manufacture. We suggest that you should periodically check that there are no objects (glass, paper, etc.) that could obstruct the air inlet under your induction hob (See fitting). The hood is completely automatic and controlled by the hob to adjust to your cooking power. You only need to clean it regularly and change the recycling carbon filters (see the chapter on maintenance). 99627361_ML_A.qxd 07/03/03 10:45 Page 2324 Using your duo in complete safety HOB safety p. 41
A sensor continuously monitors thetemperature of the components of your hob.The power output by the hob will automaticallybe reduced if this temperature becomesexcessive. You only have to remove the pan from the hob tostop power instantaneously. Touch the "Off" touchcontrol to turn off the heating zone completely. HOOD safety The hood need cleaning regularly and the carbonfilter (recyclable) changed. This will avoid risks offire. SAUCEPAN safety Each unit is equipped with a sensor thatcontinuously monitors the temperature of thebottom of the pan, so that overheating isimpossible (empty saucepan, etc.). METALLIC OBJECT safety A small object such as a fork, spoon or a ringplaced on your induction hob by itself is notdetected as a pan. The display flashes and thereis no output power. Induced currentsElectronic circuitInduction coil For the attention of wearers of pacemakers or other active implants: The hob complies with all current standards on electromagnetic interference.Your induction hob is therefore perfectly in keeping with legal requirements (89/336/CEE directives). Itis designed not to create interference on any other electrical apparatus being used on condition that theapparatus in question also complies with this legislation.Your induction hob generates short-range magnetic fields. To avoid any interference between your induction hob and a pacemaker, the latter must be designed tocomply with relevant regulations. In this respect, we can only guarantee our own product conformity. Please consult the pacemakermanufacturer or your doctor concerning its conformity or any possible incompatibility.
The principles of induction When your induction hob is switched on and aheating power has been selected, the electroniccircuits produce induced currents thatinstantaneously heat the bottom of the pan thattransfers this heat to the food. Thus cooking takes place with practically no ener-gy loss between the induction hob and the food. If a crack appears in the glass surface, disconnect the appliance immediately to avoid any risk of electric shock. For disconnecting, remove the fuses or use the cutout switchDo not re-use your hob until the glass surface has been changed. Never "flambé" dishes (set light to alcohol). (The flames sucked up by the hood will damage it). Always keep a close eye on anything frying.Repairs should only be carried out by a qualified specialist. If you cook on a stove that has a chimney flue, install the hood so that it recycles the air. Never use the hood without its metal filters. The hob must not be used as a storage space for any products whatsoever.Never allow power cables for other electrical appliances to trail across the hob. When cooking never use aluminium foil and never place products wrapped in aluminium foil or products deep-frozen in aluminium packs on the hob.The aluminium will melt and damage your appliance irreparably. If your hob is placed above your oven (see "Choice of Installation") thermal protectors prevent it being used when the oven is being pyro-cleaned. 99627361_ML_A.qxd 07/03/03 10:45 Page 2526 Containers You probably already have some suitable pans. Your induction hob is able to recognize most types of pans. Pan test: Place your pan on a zone, for example at position 4; you know that your pan is compa- tible if the display does not flash, but if it does flash then you cannot use this pan for induction cooking. You can also test it with a magnet: if the magnet "sticks" to the base of the pan, then you can use it for induction cooking. Pans compatible with induction are:
- pans made of enamel coated steel with or without a non-stick coating.
- cast iron pans with or without enamel coated base. An enamelled coated base will prevent the glass top of your hob from getting scratched.
- stainless steel pans designed for induction cooking. Most stainless steel pans (saucepans, stewpans, frying pans, deep frying pans, etc.) are suitable for induction cooking if they pass the pan test.
- aluminium pans with special base. pans which do not have a flat base may be sui- table, however they must not be badly deformed . Choose a pan marked with the logo on its base or packaging to be sure that it is per- fectly suitable for use on your induction hob un- der normal conditions of use. A list of utensils is supplied with these instructions to help you make your choice.
- Note Glass, ceramic, earthenware pans, aluminium pans (without a special base) and copper pans, and some non-magnetic stainless steel pans are incompatible with induction cooking. You will be informed by the flashing display. You should choose pans with a thick flat base for uniform cooking (heat is better distributed). When the hob is switched on the light goes on and the hood is in automatic mode: An A is displayed on the hob. The extraction speed of your hob changes automatically depending on the cooking power you have chosen. In this mode you can change the setting on your hood at any time depending on the specific requirements of particular types of cooking (frying, excessive steam etc.). You can also use your hood in manual mode. The extraction speed is entirely under your control. You just need to choose the extraction setting by pressing the buttons on your hob. It is preferable to use the back cooking areas of your cooker. In manual mode: We recommend that you use this from the time you start cooking. When all the burners are off the hood stops automatically after 1 - 4 minutes depending on the extraction speed you have chosen. In automatic mode: These criteria are taken into consideration by the hob as the hood starts working as soon as the cooking areas start to warm up. Rest your pans on the surround or rim (dependng on model) ● Avoid using pans with rough or dented bases: They may hold and transport matter liable to stain or scratch the hob. ● Place your pan in the middle of the heating zone. ● Do not leave an empty pan on a heating zone. Any such faults, which are not the cause of breakdowns nor make the hob impossible to use, are not included in the guarantee conditions. ● Do not leave metal cooking utensils, knives and forks, or metal objects on the hob. They will get hot if left close to any heating zone that is in use. ● Do not store MAINTENANCE INFLAMMABLE products in the cupboard under your hob. ● Do not heat up a closed can. This filter retains all the fatty vapours and dust. It is the most important element for keeping your hood efficient. This filter retains odours and, depending on its use, should be changed at least once a year. Wash using a standard household product, rinse thoroughly and leave to dry.Put the filter in your dishwasher vertically for cleaning. (Do not allow it to come into contact with any dirty dishes). Order these filters from your local retailer (using the reference marked on the identity plate inside the hood) and note down the date you have changed it. Cassette filter Active charcoal filter Never use steel-wool pads, abrasive products or over-stiff brushes. To clean the outside of the hood and the light cover, use any standard household product diluted in water and wipe with a clean soft cloth. Before using the cassette filter for the first time remember to remove the protective film For hoods set up for recycling The hood must be disconnected from the mains before removing the filter cassettes and after cleaning the filter cassettes must be fitted again according to the instructions.
