1. Before first use, clean coffeemaker thoroughly following cleaning instructions.

2. Always use the coffeemaker on a dry, level, heat-resistant surface, away from

3. With the basket and stem removed, fill the coffeemaker with COLD water to the

desired cup level. Marks on inside of the coffeemaker show cup levels. Do not fill past maximum cup level. Never make more than the maximum or less than the minimum amount of coffee, as indicated by the markings inside your coffeemaker, for your model of coffeemaker.

4. Place the stem into the heating unit well in the bottom of the coffeemaker, then

put the basket on the stem. Add ground coffee to the basket using the following chart for the amount to use depending on the cup level. Spread the grounds evenly in the basket. Use standard measuring cups to measure the grounds. Do not let any grounds fall into the stem opening. The amount of ground coffee recommended will make medium-strength coffee which most people prefer, but amount of coffee used can be adjusted to suit personal taste. Note: A paper filter is not required for making coffee. If you grind your own coffee beans, grind to medium coarseness for best results. DO NOT grind too fine (powder-like), as this can cause the basket to flood. Cups Ground Coffee (5 oz. Serving) (8 oz. Dry Measure)

5. Place the cover on the coffeemaker and turn to lock into the handle slots. Note

the arrows on the cover for correct direction. To reduce coffee spills, especially if the coffeemaker is tipped over, make sure that the cover has been turned until it is completely locked into the handle slots. Note: Moving an appliance containing hot liquids is not recommended. If you must move the coffeemaker, extreme caution should be used. The cover only temporarily reduces coffee from spilling if the coffeemaker is tipped over.

6. Plug the cord into a 120 volt, AC grounded electric outlet ONLY. Set the

“ON/OFF” switch to “ON”. The “ON/OFF” switch will be illuminated. Do not plug into an outlet or attempt to operate the coffeemaker empty.

7. The coffeemaker will stop perking automatically (each cup requires no longer

than 1 minute brewing time). As coffee is brewing, the yellow “Brew” light will be illuminated. Coffee is ready when the green “Ready” light is illuminated. Coffee will remain at serving temperature as long as the coffeemaker is plugged in (and the switch is in the “ON” position). Do not dispense coffee until the green “Ready” light is illuminated.

8. To serve coffee directly into a cup

, use your cup to carefully press against the lower lever to dispense coffee. Gently pull the cup back when the cup is nearly full to release the lever and stop the flow of coffee. Or, press the top lever down to begin flow, and gently release when cup is ¾ full. For continuous flow when filling a coffee carafe, press the top lever down until it locks in the open position. Lift the lever upwards to the upright position when the carafe is filled. Note: Do not use the lever lock when filling a single cup of coffee.

9. When coffee can no longer be seen in the view window, turn the switch “OFF”

and unplug the cord from the electrical outlet. Note: Liquid must always cover the inside bottom of the appliance at all times. Falling below the minimum level could cause overheating and damage to internal components and will void the warranty.

10. After every use, completely empty and follow “Cleaning Instructions” to clean

your coffeemaker before using again. Do not let water or coffee sit in the coffeemaker overnight. Note:

  • A small amount of smoke or odor may occur upon heating due to the release of manufacturing oils – this is normal.
  • Some minor expansion or contraction sounds may occur during heating and cooling – this is normal.English -

ATER Plain water may be heated in your coffeemaker. Simply follow steps in “Instructions for Making Coffee,” without adding coffee grounds. The inside of the coffeemaker may darken after heating water. This is normal and does not affect the coffeemaker or the water heated. See special cleaning instructions with Cream of Tartar on the next page. Other than making coffee or heating water, no other liquid should be heated in the coffeemaker to prevent damage to the heating unit. When the coffeemaker is used to heat water only, it must be cleaned well after each use in addition to special weekly cleaning with white distilled vinegar for removal of mineral deposits. If these deposits are not removed, pitting of the metal can occur and result in damage to the coffeemaker. See Special Cleaning Instructions in this manual. Improper cleaning of the coffeemaker, especially the heating unit well, will affect the performance, resulting in weak, lukewarm coffee and may even cause the coffeemaker to stop perking. To keep the coffeemaker working properly, it is very important to follow the regular and special cleaning instructions.

  • Never make more than the maximum or less than the minimum amount of coffee, as indicated by the markings inside your coffeemaker, for your model of coffeemaker.
  • Do not use softened or distilled water, as flooding of the basket may occur.
  • If grinding your own coffee beans, grind to medium coarseness for best results. Do not grind coffee too finely or powder-like, as this can cause the coffee basket to flood.
  • Before adding coffee grounds to the basket, run the basket under running water to dampen. This will help minimize coffee grounds falling into the coffeemaker.
  • Using a hot pad, carefully remove the coffee basket with grounds as soon as the brewing cycle is completed. This helps maintain the coffee flavor. Use the coffee maker cover as a convenient carrying tray when disposing of wet grounds.
  • Liquid must always cover the inside bottom of the appliance at all times while in use. If the appliance is run dry it could cause overheating and damage to internal components and will void the warranty.
  • After every use, it is important to completely empty, clean, and dry your coffeemaker before using again. Do not let water or coffee sit in the coffeemaker overnight.
  • Do not reheat the same coffee or water. Always clean and dry the coffeemaker between uses.English -

1. Turn off and unplug the coffeemaker. Allow coffeemaker to cool completely.

Drain any remaining coffee.

2. Wash the basket, stem, and cover in warm, soapy water. Rinse and dry

thoroughly. These parts may be washed in the dishwasher, top rack only.

3. Clean the inside of the coffee maker by filling with warm, soapy water about

one-third of its capacity. Scour the heating unit well (where the stem fits) with the special cleaning tool provided and a scouring pad. The cleaning tool can found on the underside of the removable drip tray. Fold scouring pad in half and insert the cleaning tool in the fold. Insert and twist the pad inside the heating unit well to clean. The heating unit well must be kept clean for coffeemaker to work properly. Rinse with warm water after cleaning and dry. Most interior coffee stains can be removed with a scouring pad.

4. To clean the faucet, run hot water through it while pressing the lever up and

down. When storing the coffeemaker, store with the faucet in the closed position. If the faucet becomes loose, use the included hex tool to tighten the dispensing faucet from the inside.

5. Clean the outside of the coffeemaker with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use

abrasive metal scouring pads or cleansers on the outside of the coffeemaker, as scratching will occur. If desired, use stainless steel polish to maintain the exterior of your coffeemaker

6. To remove discolorations caused by coffee stains, oils, and mineral deposits,

clean inside of coffeemaker frequently by filling the appliance to top fill line with cold water. Add ¼ cup cream of tartar, insert stem, and the empty coffee basket. Cover the appliance and plug into wall outlet. When brewing cycle is completed, unplug the appliance, allow it to cool and discard contents. Wash and rinse coffee basket, stem, and inside of coffeemaker thoroughly.

LEANING If coffeemaker is used daily, a special cleaning every 2 weeks, or every week if it is used for heating water, is necessary to thoroughly clean the heating unit well. If not kept clean, the coffeemaker will not work properly.

1. Fill the coffeemaker with 1 quart EACH of water and white distilled vinegar. If a

white mineral buildup has formed on the inside of coffeemaker, use an additional 2 cups of vinegar. Place the stem and empty basket in place and lock the cover onto the coffeemaker. Set the “ON/OFF” switch to the “ON” position. Allow the coffeemaker to complete the perking cycle, then let stand for 20 minutes.

2. Turn to the “OFF” position and unplug the cord from the outlet. Drain the

coffeemaker and allow it to cool. Wash the inside and the parts following the regular cleaning instructions, making sure to thoroughly clean the heating unit well. Wrap a scouring pad around the narrow end of the cleaning tool, found on the underside of the removable drip tray, and insert into heating well, then twist until clean.

3. To clean the faucet, simply run hot water through it while pressing the lever up

4. When storing the coffeemaker, ensure that all parts are completely dry. Store

with the faucet in the closed position. DO NOT USE BAKING SODA TO CLEAN THE COFFEEMAKER, IT CAN DISCOLOR AND PIT THE METAL.English - 7 L5829 03/11 West Bend
