- A short power-supply cord is provided to reduce risks resulting from becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord.
- Longer extension cords are available, but care must be exercised in their use. While use of an extension cord is not recommended, if you must use one, ensure that the marked electrical rating of the extension cord is equal to or greater than that of the appliance. If the plug is of the grounded type, the extension cord must be a grounding-type 3-wire cord. To avoid pulling, tripping or entanglement, position the extension cord so that it does not hang over the edge of the counter, table or other area where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over.

BEFORE USING FOR THE FIRST TIME
Please check all packaging material carefully before discarding. Many accessory parts are contained within the packaging material.
Wash the percolator thoroughly before using. Refer to the "Cleaning your 9 Cup Electric Percolator" section in this manual.
USING YOUR 9 CUP ELECTRIC PERCOLATOR
- To make coffee, remove cover, basket, and stem. Fill percolator to desired cup level with cold, fresh water.
- Place the stem into heating plate and make sure it is centered flat on the plate. Wet the basket to keep coffee grounds from sifting through. Place the basket on stem. IF THE STEM IS NOT SEATED PROPERLY ON THE HEATING PLATE, THE PERCOLATOR WILL NOT PERK.
- Add desired amount of regular grind coffee to basket (refer to chart), spreading evenly. No paper filter is required. Note: Finely ground coffee may cause the coffee basket to overflow.
- Place cover on the percolator and press down until it locks in place. Caution: Scalding may occur if the cover is removed during the brewing cycle.
- Plug the cord into a 120 volt, AC electric outlet only. The appliance will automatically turn on.
- The percolator will stop when the coffee has finished brewing, ready light will turn on. The percolator will then go into a keep warm cycle that will last until the percolator has been unplugged.
- When approximately 1 cup remains, unplug cord from outlet. Allow percolator to cool completely before cleaning.
| WATER LEVEL | AMOUNT OF | GROUND COFFEE |
| 9 Cups (maximum level) | 8 to 12 tablespoons | |
| 8 cups | 7 to 11 tablespoons | |
| 7 cups | 6 to 10 tablespoons | |
| 6 cups | 5 to 9 tablespoons | |
| 5 cups (minimum level) | 4 to 8 tablespoons |
Note: Finely ground coffee may cause the coffee basket to overflow.
- A small amount of smoke and/or odor may occur upon heating due to the release of manufacturing oils – this is normal.
- Some minor expansion/contraction sounds may occur during heating and cooling – this is normal.
CLEANING YOUR 9 CUP ELECTRIC PERCOLATOR
- Unplug percolator from electrical outlet. Allow the percolator to cool completely before cleaning.
- Wash and rinse inside of percolator, cover, stem and basket with hot soapy water after each use and dry thoroughly. Removable parts are dishwasher-safe, top-rack only. The heating plate must be cleaned after each use to maintain proper operation. DO NOT IMMERSE THE PERCOLATOR IN WATER OR OTHER LIQUIDS AS DAMAGE WILL OCCUR.
- Wipe outside surface with damp cloth and dry thoroughly. Do not use abrasive scouring pads or cleansers as scratching and/or discoloration will occur.
- When the percolator is used, a build-up of mineral deposits may occur. Over time, mineral deposits can build up on internal parts and effect the operation of the appliance. The frequency of decalcification depends on the hardness of your water and how often you use the percolator. Indications that decalcifying is necessary are:
o Increased noise during brew cycle
Excessive steaming
Longer brewing times
- If usage is regular, decalcifying should be carried out as follows:
O With soft water, decalcify once per year
With medium water, decalcify every 3 months
With hard water, decalcify monthly
- To decalcify, fill percolator with 20 ounces of cold water and 20 ounces of white vinegar. Assemble with stem, basket, and cover. Plug in and let the percolator run through an entire brew cycle. When perking has stopped, let the percolator sit for 15 minutes. Unplug and drain liquid. Allow to cool and follow regular cleaning instructions to remove all vinegar traces from percolator.
This appliance has no user serviceable parts.
