  • Do not use this appliance outdoors.
  • Do not let cord hang over the edge of the table or counter, or touch hot surfaces.
  • Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a heated oven.
  • Always plug cord into wall outlet. To disconnect, turn any control to "OFF," then remove plug from wall outlet.
  • Do not use appliance for other than intended use.
  • Extreme caution must be used when moving an appliance containing hot oil or other hot liquids.
  • Do not attempt to repair this appliance yourself.
  • A short power-supply cord is provided to reduce risks resulting from becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord.
  • Longer extension cords are available, but care must be exercised in their use. While use of an extension cord is not recommended, if you must use one, ensure that the marked electrical rating of the extension cord is equal to or greater than that of the appliance. If the plug is of the grounded type, the extension cord must be a grounding-type 3-wire cord. To avoid pulling, tripping or entanglement, position the extension cord so that it does not hang over the edge of the counter, table or other area where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over.

SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS

Focus Electrics 6125 - SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS - 1

BEFORE USING FOR THE FIRST TIME

Please check all packaging material carefully before discarding. Many accessory parts are contained within the packaging material.

Wash the cooking plate and drip tray thoroughly in hot, soapy water with a dishcloth or sponge to remove any manufacturing oils. Rinse thoroughly and dry. Slide the drip tray into the holder below the drain hole. Always use the grill/griddle with the drip tray in place to collect grease that drains from foods while cooking.

  1. Select appropriate side of cooking plate, line up the arrow on the heating base and the plate, and place on heating base. Be sure that the tabs of the cooking plate fit completely into the slots in/on the heating base.
  2. Always use the grill/griddle on a dry, level, heat-resistant surface. Be sure that the dial is set to "OFF". Be sure that the drip tray is pushed in completely below the drain hole in the cooking plate. Drain holes in cooking plate must always be positioned above the drip tray. Do not block airflow under grill/griddle. Plug the cord into a 120 volt, AC electrical outlet ONLY.
  3. When the appliance has been plugged into an outlet, the red "POWER" and green "READY" lights will be illuminated. Select cooking temperature; the green "READY" light will turn off. When cooking temperature has been reached, the green "READY" light will illuminate; add food. Most foods will require a preheat period. Note: The red "POWER" light will stay on as long as the appliance is plugged in. Heat may be increased or decreased, depending upon personal preference and the type or amount of food being prepared. The green "READY" light will go on and off periodically to indicate that proper temperature is being maintained.
  4. Foods may be prepared with or without fats. When frying, the use of a small amount of butter, fat, or oil will improve the flavor, color, and crispness of foods. When frying fatty foods such as bacon or sausage, excess grease will drain into the drip tray below the drain hole on surface of grill/griddle. Do not remove the drip tray during cooking. Always allow the grill/griddle to cool completely before removing the drip tray.
  5. Nylon, plastic, wooden, or rubber cooking tools are recommended for use on the non-stick surface. Smooth-edged metal cooking tools may be used with care. Do not use sharp-edged cooking tools such as forks, knives, or food choppers as scratching may occur. Minor scratching will affect only the appearance of the finish; it will not harm its non-stick properties.
  6. When the cooking period is completed, set the temperature control dial to 200^ for later serving, or set dial at "OFF" if food will be served immediately. After the dial is

set at "OFF", disconnect cord from wall outlet. Let the grill/griddle cool before removing the cooking plate and drip tray.

A small amount of smoke and/or odor may occur upon heating due to the release of manufacturing oils - this is normal.
- Some minor expansion/contraction sounds may occur during heating and cooling – this is normal.

HELPFUL HINTS

  • Always use hot pads when handling grill/griddle as handles and grill/griddle may become hot during use.
  • Begin grilling at recommended heat setting. Adjust heat setting if needed during cooking.
  • Use griddle side to fry eggs, hash browns, grill pancakes, French toast, sandwiches, vegetables, or warm buns.
  • Brush vegetables with olive oil or vegetable oil before grilling for an attractive appearance.
  • Tender cuts of meat are best for grilling; to tenderize less tender cuts of meat, marinate before grilling.
  • Fish and seafood may be basted with melted butter or a flavored butter during cooking.
  • For best results, use tongs to turn meats to avoid piercing the skin. Use a wide spatula to turn fish, steaks, hamburgers, etc.
If using a barbecue sauce, baste meat during the last 5 minutes of grilling.

CLEANING YOUR GRILL/GRIDDLE

  1. Clean the grill/griddle thoroughly after each use. Unplug grill/griddle from electrical outlet. Allow the grill/griddle to cool completely before cleaning. Do not immerse the heating base in water. Remove the cooking plate and drip tray. Dispose of any grease. Immerse the cooking plate and drip tray in hot, soapy water. Wipe the heating base with a damp cloth if necessary. Wash the drip tray with a dishcloth, rinse and dry. DO NOT immerse the heating base or cord in water or any other liquid.

  2. Clean the cooking plate with hot, soapy water, using a non-metallic or nylon scrubber. A dishcloth or sponge may give the non-stick surface a clean look, but will

not remove the tiny food particles that can settle in the finish. Do not use metal scouring pads or harsh scouring powders.

  1. Your cooking plate and drip tray may be cleaned in an automatic dishwasher. Clean the drip tray in the top rack only. The finish of the cooking plate may discolor due to the minerals in water and the high heat of the drying cycle. This will not affect the cooking ability of grill/griddle.

SPECIAL CARE:

  1. A spotted white film may form on the non-stick surface. This is a buildup of minerals from foods or water and is not a defect in the surface. To remove, soak a soft cloth in lemon juice or vinegar and rub on the finish. Wash the non-stick surface thoroughly, rinse and dry.
  2. The non-stick surface may also become stained from improper cleaning or overheating. To remove stains, clean the non-stick surface by the following method. Combine 1 cup of water and 1 tablespoon of ONE of the following cleaners: coffee pot destainer, automatic dishwasher detergent or dry oxygen bleach crystals. USE ONLY ONE OF THE ABOVE CLEANERS; DO NOT COMBINE. Make sure the drip tray is in position. Preheat the grill/griddle to 200^ F. Wearing rubber gloves, dip a sponge into the cleaning mixture and wipe over the surface.
  3. Continue cleaning procedure until mixture is gone. Turn the grill/griddle to "OFF" and allow it to cool. Scour the cooking plate with hot, soapy water and a non-metallic or nylon scouring pad. Rinse thoroughly and dry. Wash the drip tray in hot, soapy water and dry.
