IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS

CAUTION
To prevent personal injury or property damage, read and follow all instructions and warnings.
When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed including the following:
- Read all instructions, including these important safeguards and the care and use instructions in this manual.
- Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.
- To protect against fire, electric shock and injury to persons, do not immerse cord, plugs, or other electric parts in water or other liquids.
- Close supervision is necessary when this appliance is used by or near children.
- Unplug the appliance from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts and before cleaning.
- Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug or after the appliance malfunctions or if the appliance is dropped or damaged in any manner. If you experience any problems with your appliance, unplug it immediately from the electrical outlet. For service information see warranty page.
- The use of accessory attachments not recommended by Focus Electronics may cause fire, electric shock, or injury to persons.
- Do not use this appliance outdoors.
- Do not let cord hang over the edge of a table or counter, or touch hot surfaces.
- Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a heated oven.
- Always attach plug to appliance first, then plug cord into the wall outlet. To disconnect, turn any control to "OFF," then remove plug from wall outlet.
- Do not use appliance for other than intended use.
- The lid must be correctly in place during use and the spout must be free from obstruction.
- Scalding may occur if the lid is removed during the brewing cycle.
- This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). To reduce the risk of electric shock, this plug is intended to fit into a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully into the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not attempt to modify the plug in any way.
- For household use only.

CAUTION
To prevent personal injury or property damage, read and follow all instructions and warnings.
OPERATING PRECAUTIONS
- Do not leave appliance unattended while plugged into electrical outlet.
- Use extreme caution when pouring as boiling water can cause scalding.
- Do not refill the water reservoir while the appliance is on. Turn the appliance off and allow to cool before refilling with water.
- Do not operate without filter in place.
- Do not open the lid during the heating cycle as scalding may occur.
- Do not plug cord into electrical outlet unless power switch is in "OFF" position.
- Always ensure kettle is switched to the "OFF" position before removing from the power base.
- A short power-supply cord is provided to reduce risks resulting from becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord.
- Longer, detachable power-supply cords or extension cords are available and may be used if care is exercised in their use. While use of an extension cord is not recommended, if you must use one, the marked electrical rating of the detachable power-supply cord or extension cord should be at least as great as the electrical rating of the appliance. If the appliance is of the grounded type, the extension cord should be a grounding-type 3-wire cord. The cord should be arranged so that it will not hang over the counter top or tabletop where it can be pulled by children or tripped over.
- Do not attempt to repair this appliance yourself.
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS
First Use: Remove all packaging from the kettle and the power base. Before using, wipe the outside of the kettle with a damp cloth and wash the filter in warm, soapy water, rinse thoroughly and dry. Note: We recommend that water be boiled two to three times and emptied after each occasion to remove any residues from the manufacturing process.
- Place the appliance on a dry, level, heat-resistant surface, away from any edge.
- With switch in the "OFF" position, plug the cord into a 120 volt, AC electric outlet only.
- The filter must be in place to activate the auto-shut off feature and for proper operation. Fill the kettle, taking care not to splash the electrical contacts on the bottom of the appliance and observing the "MIN" and "MAX" level markings. If the electrical contact area of the kettle gets wet, it should be dried before use.
-
Fit the kettle onto the power base. Plug the power base into the electrical outlet and depress the switch into the "ON" position. The red power indicator will illuminate. When the kettle has finished boiling, the automatic shut-off system will switch the kettle to "OFF."
-
Always ensure the water level does not exceed the "MAX" level and is above the "MIN" level as indicated by the water level indicator.
- Only use the kettle for boiling water.
- Do not operate the kettle dry. Always use with water.
- The kettle can only be used with the complementing power base. These parts cannot be interchanged with other types or brands of kettles.
- Ensure the power is switched to "OFF" before removing the kettle from the base.
- Use extreme caution when pouring as boiling water can cause scalding.
- Some smoke and/or odor may occur upon heating due to the release of manufacturing oils – this is normal.
- Some minor expansion/contraction sounds may occur during heating and cooling – this is normal.
- Your kettle is equipped with a self-resetting boil-dry protector: If the kettle is accidentally switched on with less than the minimum level of water, the boil-dry protector will cut off the power. For continued use, switch the kettle to the "OFF" position and allow the kettle and control system to cool down before re-use.
CLEANING YOUR KETTLE
- Switch the kettle to the "OFF" position, unplug from the electrical outlet and allow the entire appliance to cool completely before cleaning. CAUTION: Do not immerse the kettle, base, cord, plugs or other electric parts in water or other liquids.
- The exterior of the kettle can be wiped clean with a damp cloth.
- Decalcify the kettle periodically. See the "Decalcifying Your Kettle" section.
DECALCIFYING YOUR KETTLE
- Over time, mineral deposits build up on internal parts and affect the operation of the appliance causing the need for your kettle to be decalcified periodically to maintain performance. The frequency of decalcification depends on the hardness of your water and how often you use the kettle. Indications that decalcifying is necessary are:
o Increased noise during production
Excessive steaming
Longer heating times
- If usage is regular, decalcifying should be carried out as follows:
With soft water, decalcify once per year
With medium water, decalcify every quarter year
With hard water, decalcify once a month
We recommend the use of vinegar for decalcifying.
- Switch the appliance to the "OFF" position, unplug from the electrical outlet and allow the entire appliance to cool completely before cleaning.
- Pour 16 ounces (12 Quart mark) of fresh, cool, undiluted, white household vinegar into the water reservoir.
- Plug the appliance into the electrical outlet, switch to the "ON" position and allow the kettle to fully heat and shut off automatically. Dispose of "vinegar" when complete.
- Follow the same step as above except using clear, cool water to rinse any remaining traces of the vinegar from the kettle. Rinse twice using clean, cool water each time.
