How to turn on the camera and take a photo in auto mode?

To turn on the camera, turn the main switch to ON. Set the mode dial to AUTOPICT. Set the AF mode selector to AF. Frame the subject in the viewfinder and press the shutter button halfway to focus. When the focus indicator in the viewfinder is steady, press fully to take the photo.

How to use the built-in flash?

In Auto Picture mode, the flash pops up and fires automatically when needed. To use it manually, press the UP button to raise the flash. Then press the navigation button (◀) to access the flash mode setting screen and choose the desired mode (auto, forced, red-eye reduction, etc.). Press OK to confirm. To retract the flash, push it down.

How to change the lens?

Turn off the camera before changing the lens. Remove the body cap and the lens rear cap. Align the red index mark on the lens mount with that on the body, then turn the lens clockwise until it clicks. To remove a lens, press and hold the lens unlock button and turn the lens counterclockwise. Avoid touching the electrical contacts.

How to set the date and time?

Press the MENU button, then navigate to the Preferences 1 menu (press ▶ several times). Select Date Setting and follow the on-screen instructions: set the date format, time format (24h/12h), then the date and time using the navigation keys. Press OK to confirm. You can also set the date when first turning on the camera.

How to activate the image stabilizer (Shake Reduction)?

The SR image stabilizer is enabled by default. To check or change its status, press the MENU button, go to the Capture Mode 3 menu and select Shake Reduction. Choose On to activate. An icon appears in the viewfinder. Do not use SR when the camera is mounted on a tripod to avoid unnecessary vibrations.

How to transfer photos to a computer?

Use the supplied I-USB7 USB cable. Connect the camera to the computer after turning off the camera. Turn on the camera in playback mode. The computer will recognize the camera as a storage device (or use the PENTAX PHOTO Browser 3 software). You can then copy image files from the SD memory card. Disconnect the cable after safely ejecting the device.

How to clean the sensor?

The camera has a dust removal system that vibrates the sensor at high speed. To activate it, go to the Preferences menu and select Sensor Cleaning. You can also use a blower to remove stubborn dust (without touching the sensor). For deep cleaning, contact PENTAX after-sales service (fee-based service).

What types of batteries are recommended?

The camera accepts four AA lithium (supplied), rechargeable Ni-MH, or alkaline batteries. Lithium batteries offer the best battery life and work well in cold weather. Ni-MH batteries are economical and rechargeable. Alkaline batteries are not recommended for heavy use. Do not mix different types or brands of batteries, and always replace all four at the same time.

How to use the self-timer?

Press the navigation button ▲ in shooting mode to access the drive mode. Select the self-timer icon ( or for 2 seconds). Press OK. Frame the photo and press the shutter button fully. The camera takes the photo after the selected delay. The self-timer indicator blinks then turns off just before the shot.

How to reset to default settings?

Go to the Preferences 3 menu and select Reset. You can choose to reset the Capture Mode / Playback / Preferences menus or the C Custom Settings menu. Confirm with OK. Note: this operation erases all custom settings, but not the images on the card.
