Important

Read this user manual carefully before you use the appliance and save it for future reference.

Danger

- Never immerse the motor unit of the appliance in water or any other liquid, nor rinse it under the tap.

Warning

- Check if the voltage indicated on the appliance corresponds to the local mains voltage before you connect the appliance.

- Only connect the appliance to an earthed wall socket.

- The appliance is not intended to be operated by means of an external timer or separate remote-control system.

- Do not use the appliance if the plug, the mains cord or other parts are damaged.

- If the mains cord is damaged, you must have it replaced by Philips, a service centre authorised by Philips or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard.

- The appliance may not be used by children. Keep the appliance and its mains cord out of reach of children.

- The appliance can be used by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge if they have

been given instructions in safe use of the appliance or supervision to establish safe use and if they have been made aware of the hazards involved.

  • Do not let the mains cord hang over the edge of the surface or worktop on which the appliance stand.
  • Keep the appliance and the mains cords away from hot surfaces.
  • Always fully unwind the mains cord before you plug in the appliance.
  • Avoid touching the cutting edges of the discs. The cutting edges are very sharp.
  • Never use a spatula or a spoon to remove the ingredients from the appliance during operation. Always unplug the appliance if you have to remove something from the feeding tube.
  • Never use your fingers or an object (e.g. a spatula) to push ingredients down the feeding tube while the appliance is operating. Only use the pusher for this purpose.
  • Never reach into the feeding tube while the appliance is operating.
  • Be very careful when you handle the discs. Be especially careful when you remove them from the Cutting Tower bowl, when you empty the bowl or when you clean it. Their cutting edges are very sharp.

Caution

  • The appliance is intended for normal household use only. It is not intended for use in environments such as staff kitchens of shops, offices, farms or other work environments. Nor is it intended to be used by clients in hotels, motels, bed and breakfasts and other residential environments.
  • Switch off the appliance before you detach any accessory.
  • Unplug the appliance immediately after use.
  • Always switch off the appliance by turning the control knob to 0.
  • Wait until moving parts stop running before you remove the lid of the appliance
  • If the appliance is used improperly or for professional or semi-professional purposes or if it is not used according to the instructions in the user manual, the guarantee becomes invalid and Philips refuses any liability for damage caused.
  • Never use any accessories or parts from other manufacturers or that Philips does not specifically recommend. If you use such accessories or parts, your guarantee becomes invalid.
  • Always place the appliance on a dry, flat and stable surface.
  • Do not use the appliance or any of its parts in the microwave.
  • Only use a moist cloth to clean the base of the appliance.
  • Do not move the appliance while it is operating.

The appliance complies with all standards regarding electromagnetic fields (EMF).

Built-in safety lock

This feature ensures that you can only switch on the appliance if you have properly assembled the bowl with spout and the lid with feeding tube on the motor unit. If the bowl with spout and the lid with feeding tube are correctly assembled, the built-in safety lock will be unlocked.

Before first use

1 Remove all packaging materials from the appliance.
2 Thoroughly clean the parts that come into contact with food before you use the appliance for the first time (see chapter ‘Cleaning’).

Preparing for use

1 Let hot ingredients cool down before you process them (max. temperature 80^ C/ 175^ F).
2 Cut the ingredients into pieces that fit into the feeding tube. Make sure that the pieces are not too big to prevent them from getting stuck in the feeding tube.
3 Put the motor unit on a flat and stable surface.
4 Put the bowl with spout on the motor unit (1) and turn it clockwise (2) to fix it ('click'). (Fig. 2)
5 Place the tool holder in the bowl with spout (Fig. 3).
6 Place the disc you want to use in the disc holder.

The slicing and shredding discs are intended for slicing and shredding vegetables like cucumber, carrots, potatoes, leeks and onions and certain kind of cheese. The Julienne disc is intended for cutting vegetables into thin sticks.

Never process hard ingredients like ice cubes with the appliance.

The cutting edges are very sharp. Do not touch them.

7 Place the disc holder on the tool holder (Fig. 4).
8 Put the lid with feeding tube on the bowl with spout (1). Turn the lid clockwise (2) to fix it (Fig. 5).
9 Put the mains plug in the wall socket (Fig. 6).

Using the appliances

The slicing and shredding discs are intended for slicing or shredding vegetables like cucumber, carrots, potatoes, leeks and onions and certain kinds of cheese.

The julienne disc is intended for cutting vegetables into thin sticks.

Never process hard ingredients like ice cubes with the appliance.

The cutting edges are very sharp. Do not touch them.

1 Put the ingredients in the feeding tube. (Fig. 7)

  • Pre-cut large ingredients into pieces that fit in the feeding tube.
  • Fill the feeding tube evenly for the best results.
  • To shred cheese, e.g. Parmesan, Gouda or Emmentaler; the cheese should be at refrigerator temperature.

Note: Certain ingredients may cause discolouration. If you spill ingredients on the outside of the Cutting Tower, wipe away the spills immediately.

2 Put the pusher onto the ingredients in the feeding tube (Fig. 8).
3 Turn the control knob to speed 1 or 2 and push down the pusher. (Fig. 9)

Use speed 1 for soft ingredients like mushrooms. Use speed 2 for hard ingredients like carrots.

Cleaning

Never use scouring pads, abrasive cleaning agents or aggressive liquids such as petrol or acetone to clean the appliance.

1 Switch off and unplug the appliance.
2 Turn the lid with feeding tube anticlockwise to remove it from the bowl with spout.
3 Lift the disc holder and the tool holder out of the bowl with spout.

4 Remove the disc from the disc holder.

5 Turn the bowl with spout anticlockwise to remove it from the motor unit.

6 Clean the bowl with spout, the lid with feeding tube, the pusher, the tool holder, the disc holder and the discs with warm water and some washing-up liquid or in the dishwasher. (Fig. 10)

Clean the discs very carefully. The cutting edges are very sharp.

7 Wipe the motor unit with a moist cloth. (Fig. 11)

Danger: Never immerse the motor unit in water, nor rinse it under the tap. Do not clean it in the dishwasher either.

Caution: If water or another liquid end up between the motor unit and the bowl with spout, dry the motor unit properly before you use the appliance again.

Storage

1 Wind the mains cord around the cord storage compartment facility in the bottom of the motor unit.
2 Put the bowl with spout on the motor unit (1) and turn it clockwise (2) to fix it ('click') (Fig. 2).
3 Put the tool holder in the bowl with spout (1). Put the lid with feeding tube on the bowl with spout (2) and turn it clockwise (3) to fix it ('click') (Fig. 12).
4 Put the pusher in the feeding tube. (Fig. 13)
5 Store the appliance on a dry, flat and stable surface and the discs in a safe, dry place out of the reach of children.

Philips guarantees its products for two years after the date of purchase. Defects due to faulty materials and poor workmanship will be repaired or the product will be replaced at Philips' expense, provided that convincing proof of purchase is provided.

Replacement products and repaired parts are guaranteed for the remaining time of the guarantee or a period of six months, whichever is longer.

The guarantee does not apply to any defect that results from an accident, misuse, improper maintenance or that is due to normal wear and tear.

The terms of the guarantee do not exclude, restrict or modify your statutory rights.

250g of Parmesan cheese

1 Shred the Parmesan cheese (without rind) with the shredding disc.
2 Place small heaps of Parmesan on a baking tray and bake them in a preheated oven (200°C) for 8 minutes.
