Frequently Asked Questions - LI8S1EW - LI8S2EK INDESIT

What is the difference between the LI8S1EW and the LI8S2EK?
These two models are identical in terms of performance and technical features. The only difference is the color: the LI8S1EW is white and the LI8S2EK is black. They share the same capacity of 339 liters, the same dimensions, and the same Low Frost technology.
How does Low Frost technology work?
Low Frost technology reduces frost formation in the freezer compartment, which limits the frequency of manual defrosting and makes it faster. The refrigerator compartment benefits from integrated automatic defrosting. You will notice much less frost compared to a traditional static cold model.
What is the freezing capacity in 24 hours?
The LI8S1EW / LI8S2EK can freeze up to 5 kg of fresh food in 24 hours. The freezer compartment offers 111 liters distributed across 3 drawers.
How long do foods remain preserved during a power outage?
In the event of a power failure, frozen foods remain safe for about 24 hours, provided the freezer is well-stocked and the door remains closed. Avoid opening the doors during the outage to preserve the cold for as long as possible.
The refrigerator is making noise, is this normal?
A noise level of 39 dB(A) (class C) is expected during normal operation: sounds from the refrigerant circulation, compressor start-up. If you hear unusual vibrations or clattering, check that the appliance is level and that no objects are touching the back of the appliance.
How do I adjust the temperature of the refrigerator and freezer?
The appliance is equipped with an electronic thermostat accessible from the internal control panel. The recommended temperature is +4 °C for the refrigerator and -18 °C for the freezer. Refer to the manual for the exact adjustment procedure according to your display.
The door alarm is going off, what should I do?
The audible alarm activates if the door remains open for several minutes. Check that no food is blocking the closure and that the magnetic seal is clean and not deformed. If the alarm persists with the door closed, the seal likely needs to be cleaned or replaced.
In which room can I install this appliance?
Thanks to its N-T climate class, the LI8S1EW / LI8S2EK operates in rooms with an ambient temperature between 16 °C and 43 °C. It is suitable for a kitchen, a utility room, or a heated pantry, but not for an unheated garage in winter.
The refrigerator is not cooling sufficiently, what should I check?
First, check the thermostat setting and the door seal's tightness. Ensure the appliance has a ventilation space of at least 5 cm at the back and sides. Avoid placing still-warm food directly inside. If the problem persists after 24 hours of operation, contact Indesit after-sales service.
How do I clean the inside of the refrigerator?
Unplug the appliance before any cleaning. Use warm water with a bit of baking soda or a mild non-abrasive detergent. Never use solvents, corrosive products, or steam cleaners. The 4 glass shelves are removable for easy maintenance. Dry the interior thoroughly before plugging it back in.
Can the door opening direction be reversed?
The standard configuration of the LI8S1EW / LI8S2EK is a right-hand opening. To find out if your model allows for hinge reversal, refer to the installation guide provided with the appliance or contact Indesit support.
What refrigerant does this appliance use and how should it be recycled?
The LI8S1EW / LI8S2EK uses R600a (isobutane) refrigerant, which is not harmful to the ozone layer. At the end of its life, the appliance should be taken to an authorized WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) collection point for safe disposal.

How to effectively defrost the INDESIT LI8S1EW / LI8S2EK combined refrigerator?
Frequently Asked Questions - 16/02/2026
Response Notice-Facile

Your INDESIT LI8S1EW/LI8S2EK combined refrigerator features Low Frost Static Cooling technology, which naturally reduces frost buildup. However, regular defrosting is recommended as soon as you notice ice accumulation, as a thick layer hinders cold circulation and significantly increases electricity consumption.

Defrosting preparation: Start by completely unplugging the appliance from the electrical outlet (it is not enough to just turn off the machine). Remove all food and drinks from the refrigerator and freezer. Place perishable items in a cooler or icebox to maintain the cold chain during the operation, which may take several hours depending on the thickness of the frost.

Defrosting phase: Open the doors of the refrigerator and freezer and let the frost melt naturally. To speed up the process, you can place one or more containers of hot water inside the freezer: the steam released will help melt the ice more quickly. Place trays or basins under the freezer to collect the melting water. Important caution: never use sharp or pointed objects or electrical devices to scrape or remove frost, as you risk puncturing the internal walls and damaging the cooling system.

Cleaning and recommissioning: Once the ice has completely melted, carefully wipe the inside of the refrigerator and freezer with a clean, dry cloth to remove any residual moisture. Check that the freezer's air vents are not blocked, as good air circulation is essential for the proper functioning of the appliance. Also clean the exterior and rubber seals with a sponge soaked in warm water mixed with baking soda.

Plug the appliance back into the electrical outlet and set the electronic thermostat to the desired temperature. Wait for the appliance to return to its normal temperature before putting the food back inside. Wait at least 10 hours for the temperatures to stabilize properly. To avoid excessive frost buildup in the future, limit door openings, do not store hot food directly in the appliance, and ensure your food is well covered to prevent condensation formation.

INDESIT LI8S1EW - LI8S2EK - Setting the temperature* - 1

The temperature inside the refrigerator compartment is adjusted depending on the position of the thermostat knob.

For environment average temperatures (25± 10^) , in order to get the right balance between performance and power consumption, we recommend using the thermostat positions included in the range ECO.

You turn off the product by setting it on the OFF position.

INDESIT LI8S1EW - LI8S2EK - Setting the temperature* - 2

AIR*

It is recommended to enable the AIR pushing on the apposite button to improve the functioning of the product with high environment temperature, if there are water drops on the glass shelves or in high humidity conditions.

Do not block the air inlet with food.

INDESIT LI8S1EW - LI8S2EK - AIR* - 1

Using the refrigerator to its full potential

  • Place only cold or lukewarm foods in the compartment, never hot foods (See Flexi USE BOX where present)
  • Remember that cooked foods do not last longer than raw foods.
  • Do not store liquids in open containers: they will increase the level of humidity in the refrigerator and cause condensation to form.

  • Varies by number and/or position, available only on certain models.

SHELVES: with or without grill.

They are removable and adjustable in height and depth thanks to the special guides (see the picture), allowing easy storage of large containers and food. Height can be adjusted without complete removal of the shelf.

INDESIT LI8S1EW - LI8S2EK - Using the refrigerator to its full potential - 1

TEMPERATURE Indicator light*: to identify the coldest area in the refrigerator.

  1. Check that OK appears clearly on the indicator light (see diagram).

INDESIT LI8S1EW - LI8S2EK - Using the refrigerator to its full potential - 2

  1. If the word "OK" does not appear it means that the temperature is too high: set the FRIDGE TEMPERATURE on a colder value, and then wait 10 hours until the temperature becomes stable.
  2. Check the indicator light again: if necessary, readjust it following the initial process. If large quantities of food have been added or if the refrigerator door has been opened frequently, it is normal for the indicator not to show OK. Wait at least 10 hours before you set the FRIDGE temperature on a colder value.

FLEXI USE BOX* container

This is the new box which offers maximum flexibility in order to stock your food in an excellent way.

If you put in the low section of your fridge compartment, on the crisper box, it becomes CHILLER, and it guarantees a temperature very close to 0^ , which is ideal to:

-store meat, fish and delicate food;
-rapid cooling of hot foods;
-low temperature defrosting (it inhibits the proliferation of microorganisms).

You can get the 0^ temperature, in standard conditions, when the fridge compartment temperature is at about 4^ .

By decreasing the fridge temperature you decrease the CHILLER compartment temperature too.

If you put it in the "upper" part of the fridge compartment (A1), it will be suitable to store fruit and vegetables, thus giving you the possibility to have a second crisper box.

Using the freezer to its full potential

  • Do not re-freeze food that is defrosting or that has already been defrosted. These foods must be cooked and eaten (within 24 hours).
  • Fresh food for freezing should not be placed in contact with the one already frozen; it should be placed in the lower FREEZER and STORAGE compartment that provides the best freezing rate.
  • To freeze fresh food in the best and safest way possible, activate the SUPER FREEZE function 24 hours before placing the food in the freezer. After placing the food inside, activate the SUPER FREEZE function again; it will be deactivated automatically after 24 hours;
  • Do not place glass bottles which contain liquids, and which are corked or hermetically sealed in the freezer because they could break.
  • The maximum quantity of food that may be frozen daily is indicated on the plate containing the technical properties located on the bottom left side of the refrigerator compartment (for example: 2Kg/24h).
! To avoid blocking the air circulation inside the freezer compartment, it is advisable not to obstruct the ventilation holes with food or containers.
! Do not open the door during freezing.
! If there is a power cut or malfunction, do not open the freezer door. This will help maintain the temperature inside the freezer, ensuring that foods are conserved for at least 12-18 hours.
! To get more space inside your freezer, you can take out any drawers (and flaps, if appropriate), from their slots, by putting your food directly on the provided shelves.

BLACK OUT SENSOR*

At the first starting of the refrigerator, the black out sensor must be in this position.

INDESIT LI8S1EW - LI8S2EK - BLACK OUT SENSOR* - 1

24 hours later, rotate the blackout sensor of 180^ .

Your food will be safe until the liquids are as shown below.

INDESIT LI8S1EW - LI8S2EK - BLACK OUT SENSOR* - 2

If one or both of the liquids are dissolved, this is an indication of increased temperature in the freezer.

Even the partial melting of one of the two liquids can show an abnormal increase of the internal temperature.

If the liquid A1 melts, food must be eaten in a week.

If the liquid A2 melts, food should be thrown away.

INDESIT LI8S1EW - LI8S2EK - BLACK OUT SENSOR* - 3

INDESIT LI8S1EW - LI8S2EK - BLACK OUT SENSOR* - 4

  • Do not leave the door open for a long period of time. Close the door of the freezer since the blackout sensor detector can give the wrong alarm. Load or unload the freezer as quickly as possible to avoid interventions of the black-out detector sensor. Leaving the door open for a long period of time, the liquid can dissolve on the black-out detector sensor, but the food in the freezer can be still in good condition.
  • Check the state of the liquid only in the presence of electricity. The freezer is able to maintain the frozen food properly for xx hours (depending on the outside temperature) in the case of black-out. If the refrigerator is in a condition of black-out for a shorter period, it is recommended not to open the doors and wait.
  • Place the hot food on the back of the freezer compartment. The hot food that is close to the detector blackout sensor may dissolve liquids and cause ill-timed interventions.

Maintenance and care

Switching the appliance off

During cleaning and maintenance it is necessary to disconnect the appliance from the electricity supply.

It is not sufficient to set the temperature adjustment knobs on (appliance off) to eliminate all electrical contact.

Cleaning the appliance

  • The external and internal parts, as well as the rubber seals may be cleaned using a sponge that has been soaked in lukewarm water and bicarbonate of soda or neutral soap. Do not use solvents, abrasive products, bleach or ammonia.
  • The removable accessories may be soaked in warm water and soap or dishwashing liquid. Rinse and dry them carefully.
  • The back of the appliance may collect dust which can be removed by delicately using the hose of a vacuum cleaner set

on medium power. The appliance must be switched off and the plug must be pulled out before cleaning the appliance.

Avoiding mould and unpleasant odours

  • The appliance is manufactured with hygienic materials which are odour free. In order to maintain an odour free refrigerator and to prevent the formation of stains, food must always be covered or sealed properly.

INDESIT LI8S1EW - LI8S2EK - Precautions and tips - 1

General safety

  • The appliance was designed for domestic use inside the home and is not intended for commercial or industrial use.
  • The appliance must be used to store and freeze food products by adults only and according to the instructions in this manual.
  • The appliance must not be installed outdoors, even in covered areas. It is extremely dangerous to leave the appliance exposed to rain and storms.

  • Varies by number and/or position, available only on certain models.

  • Do not touch the appliance with bare feet or with wet or moist hands and feet.

  • Do not touch the internal cooling elements: this could cause skin abrasions or frost/freezer burns.
  • When unplugging the appliance always pull the plug from the mains socket, do not pull on the cable.
  • Before cleaning and maintenance, always switch off the appliance and disconnect it from the electrical supply. -It is not enough to turn off the device (with the button) to eliminate all electric contacts.
  • In the case of a malfunction, under no circumstances should you attempt to repair the appliance yourself. Repairs carried out by inexperienced persons may cause injury or further malfunctioning of the appliance.
  • Do not use any sharp or pointed utensils or electrical equipment - other than the type recommended by the manufacturer - inside the frozen food storage compartments.
  • Do not put ice cubes taken directly from the freezer into your mouth.
  • This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or lack of experience and knowledge unless they have been given Supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety. Children should be Supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
  • Keep packaging material out of the reach of children! It can become a choking or suffocation hazard.

Disposal

  • Observe local environmental standards when disposing packaging material for recycling purposes.
  • The European Directive 2012/19/EU on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), requires that old household electrical appliances must not be disposed of in the normal unsorted municipal waste stream. Old appliances must be collected separately in order to optimise the recovery and recycling of the materials they contain and reduce the impact on human health and the environment. The crossed out "wheeled bin" symbol on the product reminds you of your obligation, that when you dispose of the appliance it must be separately collected. Consumers should contact their local authority or retailer for information concerning the correct disposal of their old appliance.

Respecting and conserving the environment

  • Install the appliance in a fresh and well-ventilated room. Ensure that it is protected from direct sunlight and do not place it near heat sources.
  • Try to avoid keeping the door open for long periods or opening the door too frequently in order to conserve energy.
  • Do not fill the appliance with too much food: cold air must circulate freely for food to be preserved properly. If circulation is impeded, the compressor will work continuously.
  • Do not place hot food directly into the refrigerator. The internal temperature will increase and force the compressor to work harder and will consume more energy.
  • Defrost the appliance if ice forms (see Maintenance). A thick layer of ice makes cold transference to food products more difficult and results in increased energy consumption.

Troubleshooting

If the appliance does not work, before calling for Assistance (see Assistance), check for a solution from the following list.

The internal light does not illuminate.

  • The plug has not been inserted into the electrical socket, or not

far enough to make contact, or there is no power in the house.
- The TEMPERATURE ADJUSTMENT knob is not in the correct position.

The motor does not start.

  • The appliance comes with a motor protection control (see Startup and use).

The refrigerator and the freezer do not cool well.

  • The doors do not close properly or the seals are damaged.
  • The doors are opened too frequently.
  • The refrigerator or the freezer have been over-filled.

The food inside the refrigerator is beginning to freeze.

  • The TEMPERATURE ADJUSTMENT knob is not in the correct position.

The motor runs continuously.

  • The door is not closed properly or is continuously opened.
  • The outside ambient temperature is very high.

The appliance makes a lot of noise.

  • The appliance has not been installed on a level surface (see Installation).
  • The appliance has been installed between cabinets that vibrate and make noise.
  • The internal refrigerant makes a slight noise even when the compressor is off. This is not a defect, it is normal.

Some of the external parts of the refrigerator become hot.

  • These raised temperatures are necessary in order to avoid the formation of condensation on certain parts of the product.
