Important Safeguards
- Please read these instructions carefully and keep them in a safe place.
- Ensure that the kettle is always operated on a level surface.
- Never immerse the kettle in water.
- Switch, base, and cable must not come into contact with water. Should this happen accidentally, then ensure that all parts are completely dry before the kettle is used again.
- Regularly check the plug and lead for wear and damage.
- Only use the kettle to boil water; do NOT heat milk in the kettle, as it will simply boil over.
-
Never place the base on a hot surface or a metal tray.
-
Always check that the lid is securely closed and do not switch on the kettle if it does not contain water.
- Ensure that users, in particular children, are fully aware of the danger of escaping hot steam and splashing boiling water.
- Ensure, that the power lead does not hang down from the worktop as children can pull the lead and thereby cause a serious accident.
- The kettle and base must not be operated with accessories of other kettle makes.
- The kettle is fitted with a dry-operation cutout that switches off the heating elements when they become too hot, for instance when the kettle has boiled dry. Allow the kettle to cool down for approx. 15 minutes. Then fill the kettle with cold water. This will reset the cutout so that the kettle can be used again.
Only use the appliance for domestic purposes in the manner described in this booklet. The manufacturer does not assume any liability in case of commercial or improper use.
Instructions for use

- Bring water to boil, but pour away water from first boiling.
- As soon as the water boils, the kettle is automatically switched off and the control lamp turns out.
- However, boiling can be stopped by lifting the kettle from the base. In this case, boiling will be continued when the kettle is placed back on the base.
- Optionally you can switch off the appliance by pressing the I/O key if you want to stop boiling before the automatic cutout is activated.
-
After an adequate cooling-off period the water can once again be brought to boil by pressing ON the switch.
-
Plug the lead of the base into the mains.
- Fill the kettle with water (min. 0.5. litres, max. 1.8 litres) and place the kettle level on the base in order to establish the contact with the power connection.
- The kettle disposes of two I/O switches:
a. a silver I/O switch on top of the handle for the kettle function with automatic cutout
b. a red I/O switch with integrated control lamp for the samovar function (without automatic cutout).
- Switch on the kettle by pressing the silver I/O key. The control lamp in the base will turn on. If switched on by this switch, the appliance is automatically switched off after having reached the boiling point.

Cleaning and care
- Always disconnect the plug from the mains before cleaning the kettle and base.
- Base, cable and kettle must never be immersed into water.
- Wipe the kettle and base with a moist cloth and a drop of washing-up liquid. Never use an aggressive scouring or steel wool.
- Cable and plug must be dried completely before being used.
-
To clean the filter, empty the kettle and let it cool down. Then pull the filter out of the spout. Clean it with a soft brush or place it for some time in a dish with descaler solution. Then rinse it thoroughly with clear water and place it into the spout again.
-
Descale the kettle regularly, possibly once a week, depending on the hardness of the water and the frequency of use. Scale significantly diminishes the heating performance of the kettle.
- To descale fill half the kettle with a solution of 2/3 water and 1/3 ordinary vinegar. Bring to the boil and then leave it to stand overnight. Next day pour away and fill the kettle with fresh water and bring to the boil again. This water must also be poured away.
- Teapot, tea filter and lid can be cleaned in warm water with a mild washing-up liquid.
Samovar function

- Fill the kettle up to the MAX marking with water.
- Switch on the appliance by using the red I/O button below the handle. In this function the water is boiled up and then kept warm, this means that as soon as the temperature of the water falls below approx. 75^ it is boiled up again.
ATTENTION
In the samovar function, the appliance is not switched off automatically!
- During the boiling period, the red control light in the base is lighting. When the boiling point is reached, this lamps turns out.
- During the keep-warm period, the integrated control light in the I/O switch is lighting. As soon as the boiling process starts again, this lamps turns out and the lamp in the base turns on. So you can see at any moment, in which phase the samoyar is actually.
- Fill the desired amount of tea into the filter (approx. 1/3 of the filter height) and place the filter in the tea pot. Do not take more tea, as this would affect the taste.
- Now add hot water and let the tea stand. You will receive a strongly concentrated tea.
- Fill the kettle again and place it on the base. Due to the samovar function the water will be brought to the boil and kept warm as described above.
- Place the tea pot instead of the lid on top of the kettle. The rising steam will keep the tea concentrate inside at a temperature of approx. 70^
- For drinking, pour a little bit tea concentrated into a cup and add as much hot water as you want. So you can individually determine the intensity of your tea.
- Then put the kettle and the tea pot back onto the base. The samoyar function is continued.
- Do not forget to switch off the appliance at the end of your tea ceremony.

Tea specialities
Russian Teatime
It's an old tradition in Russia to offer hot tea to guests and so a good household always has a samovar with boiling water and tea concentrate (called "tchainik").
For Russian tea, a strong mixture has to be preferred, e.g. Grusinian tea or Assam tea. Prepare a tea concentrate as described above.
Serve sugar, jam and fruits in sugar syrup ("varenije"). First fill approx. 1 portion of tea concentrate and 2 portions of hot water into a heat-resistant glass. Then take some sugar, jam or fruits into the mouth and let the tea flow over it.
Tea is often served in Russia with salty dishes such as bliny (small buckwheat pancakes served with sour cream, caviar and smoked salmon) or with piroshki (pastries with meat stuffing).
Winter punch
12 I strong black tea, 18 I rum, 14 I red wine, 1 cinnamon stick, 12 teaspoon of dried ginger, 2 cloves, 14 orange juice
Prepare a strong tea as described above. Heat red wine and rum together with the spices in a saucepan, but do not boil. Add the orange juice and the tea, dilute according to your taste and sweeten with some honey.
Cinnamon tea
Prepare a tea concentrate of approx. 8 teaspoons of black tea and 2 cinnamon stick, and leave to stand for a while.
Dilute with hot water and add some honey.
Frisian Teatime "Teetied"
Tea is nearly the national beverage in Eastern Frisia and is taken all the day long with sweet and salty dishes as well.
Prepare a strong tea concentrate, e.g. of a Frisian mixture or of Assam tea, as described above.
The tasty Frisian tea is always served with "Kluntje" (rock candy) and "Wulkje" (cream cloud).
Place one large piece of rock candy into the cup and fill up with tea concentrate and hot water. It should crackle. Then add one spoon of cream on top. It distributes in the tea like a cloud, which explains the name "Wulkje" (little cloud).
Do not stir!
In general one rock candy is enough for two or three cups of tea.
For the new year the tea is served with a special shortbread called "Rullerkes" and a glass of brandy.
Tea mixture for children
Mix 3 portions of rooibos tea, 1 portion of apple tea from dried apple peels and pieces, some lemon juice or peels of an untreated lemon and 1 teaspoon of cane sugar.
Prepare a strong tea of the above mixture, dilute it with warm water and add some honey to sweeten it.
TIPP:
Instead of honey you may use some jelly bears to sweeten the tea.
