Frequently Asked Questions - SA500 + SA700 series System Audio

How long do SA500 and SA700 speakers take to burn in?
The loudspeakers need approximately 50 hours of burn-in before the sound is optimised. No special precautions are needed during that period.
How do I connect the SA500/SA700 to my amplifier?
Connect the speaker cable to the rear input terminal, with red positive and black negative. Make sure the plus on the amplifier goes to the plus on the speaker and that the left and right channels are correct. The connection must be solid and clean.
Where should I place the front speakers for best stereo reproduction?
Place the speakers 2-3 metres apart, with an unobstructed path to the listening position. Angling them towards the listener gives clearer sound; wall distance adjusts bass response.
How does the distance from the wall affect the bass?
The bass level increases when the speaker is close to a wall and decreases as the distance to the wall is increased. Experiment with placement to get the desired balance.
Can I mount my System Audio speakers on the wall or on stands?
Yes. The compact SA speakers are prepared for wall brackets, ceiling brackets or floor stands. Compatible accessories are listed in the SA catalogue and on www.system-audio.com.
Where should I place the centre channel speaker?
Place it as close to the TV as possible, ideally directly above or below the TV, or on the wall behind it. Refer to your surround amplifier manual to adjust the sound level between speakers.
How high should the rear surround speakers be installed?
The rear speakers should be placed higher than 120 cm above the floor, behind or beside the listening position, never in front. This helps create the effect of being part of the movie.
What is the recommended way to clean SA loudspeakers?
Clean the sides with a moist cloth and vacuum the front grill using a brush attachment. Never touch the membranes and do not use strong detergents.
What does the System Audio warranty cover?
System Audio A/S grants a 2-year warranty against manufacturing defects. It does not cover misuse, and it is valid only if the loudspeakers have not been modified. The dealer or an associated workshop performs repairs.

USER MANUAL SA500 + SA700 series System Audio

Thank you, for choosing SA. This manual will help you getting correctly started with your new loudspeakers. Follow the instructions of the manual to obtain the best sound. Please, note that the loudspeakers need approximately 50 hours burn in before the sound is optimised. There are no special precautions during the burn in period.

check the serial number

At the rear of the loudspeaker you will find a label with the serial number. It is a good idea to write the serial number down on the invoice from the dealer and save it together with your insurance documents. Contact your dealer if there is no serial number on the loudspeakers.

connecting the loudspeaker to the amplifier

At the rear of the loudspeaker you will find the input terminal. This is where you connect the cable from the amplifier output to the loudspeaker. The red terminal is positive the black is negative. Make sure that the cable is correctly connected so that + on the amplifier is connected to + on the loudspeaker. The right and the left channel should also be correctly connected. Make sure that the connection is solid and clean.

a good installation of the loudspeakers is vital to obtain a good sound

Place the loudspeakers 2 or 3 metres apart from each other. The sound from the loudspeakers should be able to find its way to your preferred listening position unobstructed.

Be aware that:

  • the bass level is increased when the loudspeaker is placed close to a wall, and reduced by making the distance to the wall bigger
  • the sound gets clearer if the loudspeakers are angled towards the listening position
  • the sound is not optimised if the loudspeakers are placed high without being angled downwards
  • the sound is not optimised if the loudspeakers are placed low without being angled upwards

original accessories facilitate the installation

A compact loudspeaker can be freely placed anywhere. SA has made it easy to use this freedom by having prepared your loudspeakers for application of wall brackets, ceiling brackets or floor stands. In the SA catalogue you will find a list of the different kinds of accessories. See also www.system-audio.com

cleaning the SA loudspeakers

The sides of the loudspeakers are cleaned with a moist cloth. The front grill is carefully cleaned with a vacuum cleaner with a brush mounted on the mouthpiece. Avoid touching the membranes of the loudspeakers and do not use any strong detergents.

special precautions as to the centre channel speaker

A centre channel speaker is to be placed as close to your TV as possible as it has to give you the impression that the sound comes from the screen. It is recommended that you place the centre channel speaker right over or under the TV set in order to obtain the best sound balance. Alternatively, you can place it on the wall behind the TV set. Refer to your surround amplifier manual for correct adjustment of the sound level between the loudspeakers of the system. The centre channel speaker is connected to the centre channel output of the amplifier.

special precautions as to the rear speakers

The rear speakers are placed higher than the other loudspeakers of the home theatre system, typically higher than 120cm above the floor. They can be placed behind the

listening position or beside it, but never in front of it. The rear speakers contribute to giving a feeling of “being part” of the movie. Therefore they must be placed so that you sit in front of (or opposite) the rear speakers. Refer to your surround amplifier manual for correct adjustment of the sound level between the loudspeakers of the system. The rear speakers are connected to the special rear speaker output of the amplifier.

warranty

System Audio A/S grants 2 years warranty against manufacturing defects. The warranty does not cover misuse. The dealer or an associated workshop performs repair or inspection. The warranty is valid, as long as there have been no modifications to the construction.
