How to punch sheets with the Fellowes Quasar Wire?

Place the aligned sheets in the insertion slot, then lower the punching lever. Adjust the margin stop according to the desired thickness.

What type of binding wire to use?

Use Fellowes or compatible metallic binding wires, diameter 6 to 32 mm, suitable for the thickness of your document.

How to close the binding wire?

After inserting the wire teeth into the holes of the sheets, close the wire using the closer located on the machine. Press firmly until fully closed.

What to do in case of paper jam?

Unplug the machine, carefully remove the stuck sheets with tweezers. Check that the paper is not crumpled. Plug back in and try again.

How to clean the binding machine?

Clean the outside with a soft dry cloth. For paper residue, use a small vacuum cleaner. Never use chemicals or alcohol.

What is the maximum number of sheets per binding?

The maximum capacity is 20 sheets of 80 g/m². For more sheets, use a larger diameter wire.

The machine does not punch all sheets, why?

Check that the number of sheets does not exceed 20. Make sure the sheets are well aligned and the stop is set correctly. If the problem persists, the punching blades may be dull.

How to adjust the punching margin?

Turn the margin adjustment knob located at the back of the machine. The desired position is usually between 3 and 6 mm from the edge of the sheet.

SET UP

1. Ensure the machine is on a stable surface.

1. Check waste tray is empty and correctly fitted.

1. Lift the lid. Ensure the wire closing lever is pushed backwards.

1. Lift the punch handle to its upright position.

BEFORE YOU BIND

1. Select the correct wire comb diameter using the comb storage tray.

1. Hang the selected wire comb onto wire comb support.

1. Test punch scrap sheets to check edge guide setting.

STEPS TO BIND

1. Punch sheets in small batches that do not overload the machine or user.

1. Starting with the rear cover. Load punched sheets directly onto the hanging open wire comb.

1. Punch and hang the front cover. Punch and hang the remaining sheets.

1. Lift the wire comb upwards off the hooks. Carefully place into the open wire closing mechanism. Ensure the wire comb is open and touching the bottom of the mechanism.

1. Lift the wire closing lever forwards. The closing scale guide is on the moving jaw. Close the jaws until the wire gauge shows the size of wire being closed.

1. Check the closed seam. If the seam is not closed correctly, the document can be placed into the jaws and closed again.

1. To hide the seam, turn the rear cover backwards. The front cover is now visible. The seam is hidden inside the document.

1. Check wire seam closure is complete. Loose binding allows sheet loss. Good closure retains all sheets.

CORRECTING A BOUND DOCUMENT

Wire binding is a secure binding system. Additional sheets cannot be added unless the document is disassembled and then re-bound.

REMOVAL OF WASTE CLIPPINGS

The waste tray is located under the machine and is accessed from the right side. For best results empty the tray regularly.

STORAGE

Lower the punch handle to the horizontal position. Lower the lid.

TROUBLESHOOTING
