Read these instructions thoroughly before using the appliance. Keep this instruction manual for future reference or new users.

• Carefully follow these safety instructions when using the appliance to optimise its use, and to prevent or minimise the risk of injury, skin reactions and side effects.
• This appliance is designed for domestic use only and is not intended for bars, restaurants, farmhouses, hotels, motels, and offices.
• The appliance must be powered at a low safety voltage as stated on the marking.
• This appliance must be used with the power supply unit included, reference TAP60-120S500E1.
• WARNING: keep the appliance dry.
• If you use the appliance in a bathroom, always make sure to

unplug it from the power supply, as proximity to water is a hazard even when the appliance is switched off.

• As additional protection, it is recommended that a Residual Current Device (RCD) having a rated operating fault current not exceeding 30 mA be installed in the electrical circuit supplying the bathroom. Ask your electrician for advice.
• Inspect the cable for visible damage. Do not use the device if its cable, socket, or structure are damaged, do not work properly, or have fallen, and contact the official Cecotec Technical Support Service immediately. If the power cable is damaged, it must be replaced with a special cable or set to be supplied by the official Cecotec Technical Support Service. The damaged power cord must be properly discarded.
• Do not use the appliance if the UV filter of the light exit window or the accessory are broken, as safe operation under these conditions cannot be guaranteed.
• Do not look directly at the light.
• Use the appliance in a well-lit room so that the light does not disturb the eyes. You can wear sunglasses or goggles for comfort if the light is uncomfortable or too bright.
• WARNING: do not modify the appliance.
• Do not try do disassemble, modify, or repair the appliance. Doing so may damage it. Opening the appliance voids the warranty. Please contact the official Cecotec Technical Support Service if the appliance is broken or damaged and needs to be repaired. Opening the appliance may expose you to hazardous electrical components and pulsed light energy, which could cause bodily injury or eye damage. Repairs carried out by unqualified personnel can lead to extremely dangerous situations for the user.

• Make sure that the mains voltage matches the voltage stated on the rating label of the appliance and that the wall outlet is earthed.

• Do not block the appliance openings or airflow. Keep openings free of any objects, and do not block them with clothes or your fingers.

• Do not immerse the cable, plug, or any other part of the appliance in water or any other liquid or expose electrical connections to water. Make sure your hands are dry before handling the plug or switching on the appliance.
• Always check the appliance before use. Make sure that the light exit window is clean when using the appliance to avoid malfunction.
• Never leave the appliance unattended while it is plugged in.
• Do not use the appliance if you are under 18 years of age or over 65 years of age.
• This appliance must not be used by people with reduced physical, mental, or sensory capabilities, or lack of knowledge and experience, unless they are supervised or instructed in its use by a person responsible for their safety.
• Keep the appliance out of the reach of children.
• Make sure that children do not play with this appliance. Supervision is required to avoid hazards, such as exposure to the light exit window, electrocution, strangulation with cables, or choking on accessories.

Appliance use and description

• This appliance is classified as a class IIa medical appliance.
• This appliance is used to remove excess hair and body hair and reduce hair regrowth. It is designed to treat armpits, groins, arms, and legs.
• Intense Pulsed Light technology is able to achieve long-term hair removal results using much less energy than other similar hair removal appliances. The low energy used by the appliance reduces the possibility of damage or complications and contributes to its overall safety.
• The epilator applies gentle pulses of light to the skin which are absorbed by the hair roots. The lighter the skin and the darker the hair, the better the light pulses are absorbed.
• The light pulses stimulate the hair follicle into a resting phase. As a result, the hair disappears naturally, and hair growth is prevented.
• The hair growth cycle consists of different stages. IPL technology is only effective when the hair is in its growth stage. Not all hairs are in the growth phase at the same time. For this reason, we recommend that you follow the entire treatment to ensure that all hair has been effectively treated during the growth phase.
• The epilator is equipped with eye protection. Wear protective glasses when using the epilator.
• The appliance is designed so that the light exit window requires full skin contact to operate (flash). The light will not work if one of the sides of the light exit window does not touch the skin.
• The appliance features a Cooling function. Cooling function. It can reach a temperature of 10 °C. The Cooling function allows to reduce the heat generated during epilation. The

Cooling function protects the skin, relieves the sensation of pain and heat, and improves comfort during epilation.

- After 10 minutes of inactivity, the appliance will automatically switch off.

Avoid exposure to sun for 4 weeks before using the appliance.

Do not use the appliance:

• If your skin phototype is V or VI (Fig. 1). You are at risk of developing burns, blisters, and changes in skin colour (hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation).
• If you are pregnant or nursing.
• If your skin was exposed to strong sunlight or artificial tanning during the past 2 weeks.
• If your natural hair is white, grey, blonde, or red. (Fig. 2)
• On tattoos or permanent make-up
• On dark spots, such as large freckles, birthmarks, moles, or warts.
• If you have eczema, psoriasis, burns, injuries, bruises, open wounds, or active infections in the area to be treated.
• If you have a history of collagen disorder, including keloidal scar formation or poor wound healing.
• If you have a known sensitivity to light or take medication that makes your skin more sensitive to light. Medicines known to have this effect include non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents (e.g. aspirin, ibuprofen, or paracetamol), tetracyclines, phenothiazines, thiazides, diuretics, sulphonylureas, sulphonamides, DTIC, fluorouracil, vinblastine and griseofulvin.
• If you have a disease that causes light sensitivity, such as porphyria, polymorphic light eruption, lupus, solar urticaria, etc.
• If you are being treated or have recently been treated with alpha hydroxy acids (AHA) or beta hydroxy acids (BHA), Retin-A®, Accutane®, Roacuttane® (isotretinoin), topical retinoids, azelaic acid or steroids.
• If you are taking photosensitising substances or medicines, consult the package leaflet of the medication and do not use the appliance if it is indicated that it may cause photoallergic, phototoxic reactions or if you have to avoid sunlight during treatment with this medication.
• If you take anticoagulants or aspirin on a regular basis, without being able to stop the medication for at least one week before each treatment.
• If you take painkillers that reduce the skin's sensitivity to heat.
• If you have abnormal skin conditions due to diabetes or another systemic or metabolic disease.
• If you have a history of herpes outbreaks in the treatment area unless you have consulted your doctor and received preventive treatment.
• If you suffer from epilepsy with flashing-light sensitivity.
• If you have congenital heart disease.

• If you have a photosensitivity-related disease, such as polymorphic light eruption (PLE), solar urticaria, porphyria, etc.

• If you have a history of vascular disorders, such as the presence of varicose veins or vascular ectasia in the areas to be treated.

• If you have a blood disorder.
• If you have a history of immunosuppressive disease (including HIV infection or AIDS).
• If you are taking immunosuppressants.
• If you have a skin pigmentation disorder such as vitiligo.
• If you have a history of skin cancer or potential malignancies in the treatment area.
• If you have received radiotherapy or chemotherapy in the last 3 months.
• If you have an active implant, such as a pacemaker or insulin pump, in the area to be treated.
• If you have any other condition that may be worsened by using the appliance according to your doctor's advice.
• Do not use the appliance on nipples, areolas, labia minora, vagina, anus, and the inside of nostrils and ears.
• Men must not use it on the face or on the scrotum.

Do not use the epilator on sensitive areas such as:

• Around the eyes and near the eyebrows. This appliance can only be used on the female body and face (below the cheekbones).
• On labia, nipples, areolas, labia minora, vagina, anus, and inside the nostrils and ears.
• On areas that were surgically treated in the 3 weeks prior to epilation treatment.
• Men should not use the appliance on face and neck, nor on the entire genital area. The hair in these areas has different characteristics. The skin may burn (with pain, prolonged redness, and pigmentation changes).
• On areas where long-acting deodorants are applied. This can cause skin reactions.
• On or near any artificial silicone implants, subcutaneous injection sites, (insulin dispensers) or piercings.

When to consult your doctor

If you take prescribed medication or receive regular medical monitoring because of a certain condition, consult your doctor before you use the device. You should also consult your doctor if you are unsure whether the appliance is suitable for you.

To avoid adverse effects

• Do not treat the same area of skin more than once during a session.
• Always shave the treatment area before treatment and make sure that the skin in the treatment area is clean and dry.
• Do not clean the skin with flammable liquids, such as alcohol or acetone, before using the appliance.

3. BEFORE USE

• This appliance is packaged in a way as to protect it during transport. Take the appliance out of its box and remove all packaging materials. You can keep the original box and other packaging elements in a safe place. This will help you prevent damage to the appliance when transporting it in the future. In case the original packaging is disposed of, make sure all packaging materials are recycled accordingly.
• Make sure all parts and components are included and in good conditions. If there is any piece missing or in bad conditions, contact the official Cecotec Technical Support Service immediately.

4. OPERATION

NOTE:

• Do not block the air outlet with objects. Failure to do so may cause irreparable damage to the appliance.
• If the cooling fan stops rotating, stop using the appliance immediately. Otherwise, the light exit window may break due to high temperatures and may damage the skin.

Before use

• Before using the appliance, it is advisable to shave the body area to be treated.
• This allows the remaining layer of hair on the skin to absorb the pulsed light, thus ensuring better results.
• Cleanse the skin to ensure that no hair remains from previous epilation. Make sure that the skin is completely dry and free from greasy substances.

Note:

If epilation causes any skin allergy, stop using the epilator and refer to your doctor.

Pre-use test

• If you are using the appliance for the first time, you must first perform a test to determine the intensity level most suited to your skin type.
• To do this, apply pulsed light on an area close to the area to be treated. Start at the lowest level and, if no skin discomfort is noticed, gradually increase the intensity.
• Please note that the appliance cannot be used on dark skin or on blonde, red, or white hair. (Fig. 1-2)
• After the skin test, wait 24 hours to see if your skin reacts. If your skin reacts negatively, repeat the skin test at a lower intensity level. Select an intensity level that does not cause a reaction on your skin after using the epilator.

Operating instructions

Caution:

Use of controls or adjustments or performance of procedures other than those specified herein may result in hazardous radiation exposure.

Manual mode use

1. Connect the power adapter to the epilator and plug the latter to the mains. The indicator light will light up light blue.
2. Hold down the power/intensity button for a few seconds to switch on the appliance. The display will show the number of remaining light pulses, a bar indicating intensity level 1, and an arrow indicating Manual mode use. The indicator light will light up dark blue when the appliance is in preparation and will change to green when ready for use (Fig. 4).
3. Select the desired intensity level by repeatedly pressing the power/intensity button. The number of bars on the display will increase from 1 to 5. Always start at the lowest intensity level to avoid skin damage.

NOTE:

As the intensity level increases, so do the results as well as the risk of side effects. For detailed instructions on setting the intensity level, see the section “Choosing the appropriate intensity level”.

1. Place the epilator on the skin at a 90° angle (Fig. 5) The only part of the appliance that should come into contact with the skin to be treated is the light exit window and the cooling plate.
2. When the indicator light flashes green, press the pulsed-light emission button once to emit a light pulse.
3. Move the epilator to the adjacent area and repeat steps 4 and 5. Repeat this process until fully covering the treatment area.

Continuous Light Pulse mode use

1. Follow steps 1, 2, and 3 of Manual mode use.
2. After selecting the intensity level and with the appliance away from the skin, press and hold the pulsed-light emission button for a few seconds. The display will show 5 arrows to indicate that the Continuous Light Pulse mode is active (Fig. 6).
3. Place the epilator on the skin at a 90° angle (Fig. 5)
4. When the appliance detects it is correctly placed on the skin, it will emit a light pulse every two seconds. Slide the epilator to the adjacent area between pulses, until covering the entire treatment area.

Note:

• If you remove the epilator from the skin for more than 10 seconds, the epilator will return to Manual mode. You can also return to Manual mode by pressing the pulsed-light emission button once when the epilator is away from the skin.
• The epilator features a skin detection system. If not properly positioned on the skin, the epilator indicator light will light up steady green and the appliance will not emit pulsed light.

To avoid adverse effects:

• Do not treat the same area of skin more than once during a session. Avoid applying a light pulse more than once on the same area.
• If your skin blisters or burns, stop using the device immediately.
• To avoid complications after use, do not expose the skin to the sun for 48 hours before and after epilation. Sun exposure includes both direct and constant exposure for 15 minutes without protection and unprotected exposure to diffuse sunlight for 1 hour. In the two weeks following treatment, use SPF 30 or higher.

Choosing the appropriate intensity level

• The intensity level determines the intensity of the light reaching your skin. With a total of five levels, the number of bars on the display shows the selected intensity. As the intensity level increases, the risk of possible side effects and complications during epilation increases as well. Always start using the product at the lowest intensity level.
• Choose the appropriate intensity for each body area. If no discomfort is noticed using the minimum intensity level on first use, you can increase the intensity level by 1 in the next epilation session. In case of discomfort, reduce the intensity level. To do so, use the intensity button to select the desired intensity level.
• If you epilate other areas or have recently been in the sun, you should have your skin tested to determine the appropriate intensity level.

Note:

Because the skin colour of each body area may be different, you will need to select the appropriate intensity level for each area. The appliance does not automatically select the appropriate intensity level.

Cooling function

- The Cooling function activates a cooling plate to alleviate the sensation of heat when using the epilator on sensitive areas or if you use the device for a long time.

To activate the Cooling function during epilation, press the Cooling function button once.

A snowflake indicator light will appear on the display, indicating that the function is active (Fig. 7).

To deactivate the function, press the Cooling function button again.

- You can also use the Cooling function after treatment to soothe the skin. To do this, press and hold the Cooling function button for a few seconds. The display will show "ICE" and the snowflake indicator light, and the indicator light will switch off (Fig. 8).

When this function is active, the appliance will not emit pulsed light.

To return to the epilation function, press and hold the Cooling function button again for a few seconds.

After using the appliance

1. When you finish an epilation session, press, and hold the power/intensity button until the appliance switches off.
2. Unplug the adapter from the power socket and the cord from the appliance.
3. Store it in its original box and keep it away from water.

Skin care after an epilation session

Do not expose the treated skin to the sun. To protect newly treated skin when exposed to sunlight, be sure to apply a sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher for 2 weeks after each epilation session.

Side effects and complications

Normally, no complications occur during use of the epilator. However, the use of pulsed-light devices carries risk of complications. It is therefore important that you understand the possible risks and complications during use of the device.

Slight skin discomfort

Although IPL epilation does not usually cause discomfort, some users may experience slight discomfort during use. This mild discomfort is often described as a slight warmth and tingling sensation, usually following the emission of pulsed light. Excessive discomfort means that you should no longer use the device, as your skin cannot tolerate this epilation method, or the intensity level set is too high.

Skin redness

Your skin may become red for up to 24 hours after using the product. If skin redness does not disappear in 2 to 3 days, refer to your doctor.

Skin sensitivity or allergy

The area-of-treatment skin may become more sensitive, so you may notice dryness or flaking of the skin.

Skin injury or burn

Very rarely, burns or wounds to the skin can occur following use of the device. This is often due to using too high an intensity level, or using the device on unsuitable areas such as very dark skin or on tattoos. If wounds or burns appear on the skin, stop using the appliance and refer to your doctor.

Marks or scars

Although rarely, using the epilator can leave scars. Possible scars left by the epilator are often in the form of a smooth, white wound on the skin (hypotrophic). However, it can be large and red (hypertrophic) and extend beyond the margins of the wound itself (keloid). In this case, subsequent cosmetic treatments may be necessary to improve the appearance of the scar. If you notice any scar, stop using the epilator and refer to your doctor.

Change in pigmentation

Pulsed-light epilation acts on the hair shaft, particularly on the pigmented cells of the hair follicle and on the hair follicle itself. However, there is a risk of temporary hyperpigmentation (increased pigment or brown discolouration) or hypopigmentation (whitening) of the surrounding skin. Changes in skin pigmentation are more common in people with darker skin. Discolouration or changes in skin pigment are usually temporary and hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation rarely occurs.

Excessive redness and swelling

In rare cases, the treated skin may become red and swelled. This is more common in sensitive areas of the body. The redness and swelling should subside within 2 to 7 days. Applying ice on the area may help reduce swelling. Gentle cleaning of the skin is allowed, but exposure to the sun should be avoided.

Note:

If you did not properly follow the recommended use frequency, restart from the last epilation session. If you don't, you may not see effective hair removal results.

Please note that results may vary depending on the time it takes for the hair to grow back and on each area of the body.

5. CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

It is recommended to always clean the appliance after use, especially if its surface touched the skin.

1. Turn off and unplug the device.
2. Use a clean cloth to clean the surface of the device and the skin contact surface. Clean the light exit window properly.

Never immerse the appliance or any of its parts in water.

1. Store the appliance in its original case and according to the optimal storage conditions indicated in this manual.

Note:

The head of this epilator is not removable. When the preset pulses are finished, it is not possible to change it to reload the pulses.

6. TROUBLESHOOTING

The epilator or adapter becomes hot during use	It is normal for the device or adapter to slightly heat up during use.	Use the epilator in a cool environment or allow it to cool down before further use.
	Fan airflow is obstructed.	Make sure that nothing is obstructing the airflow.
	The fan does not work.	If the fan does not work, contact Cecotec Customer Service.
The epilator produces a strange smell	The light exit window is dirty.	Clean the light exit window.
	You have not properly removed the hair on the area to be treated. Hair can burn and cause odour.	Shave the hair before using the epilator.
The device makes noise	The fan emits a noise similar to that of a hair dryer during use.	These noises are normal.
	When emitting light pulses, the device emits a soft clicking sound.
You notice discomfort during treatment, or the subsequent skin reaction lasts longer than normal	You have used too high an intensity level.	Use an appropriate intensity level for each area to be treated. Always perform a skin test prior to treatment on each area.
	You have used the epilator on a contraindicated area.	Do not use the device on the areas specified under "Contraindications and precautions".
	The UV filter of the light exit window is broken.	If the UV filter is broken, stop using the device and contact the official Cecotec Technical Support Service.

Epilation results are unsatisfactory	You have used too low an intensity level.	Use an appropriate intensity level for each area to be treated
	You did not apply the light pulse to an area adjacent to the previously treated area.	Apply each light pulse next to the previous one without overlapping.
	The colour of your hair is not suitable for use of the device.	Pulsed-light treatment is not effective on light, blonde, grey, red, or white hair.
	You have not followed the recommended frequency of use.	Follow the instructions on frequency of use. You can advance the sessions, but do not exceed the recommended time between one session and the next.
	Your body responds slower to IPL epilation.	Continue treatment for at least 6 months to effectively reduce hair growth.
