Frequently Asked Questions - LETRATAG XR DYMO

How do I type accented characters on the DYMO LetraTAG XR?
The machine uses RACE technology, similar to a mobile phone keypad. Press the same key multiple times within one second to scroll through accented variants. For example, pressing the E key repeatedly cycles through e, é, è, ê, ë. Wait more than one second to confirm the character and move the cursor to the next position.
How do I create a two-line label?
Press the Enter key (`) to move to the second line. Text is automatically centered on the label. Note that some formatting options are incompatible with two-line labels: Big Font and vertical style will both trigger Error 5 if you attempt to combine them.
Which tape types are compatible with the LetraTAG XR?
The LetraTAG XR accepts DYMO 12 mm tapes in four materials: paper (white, yellow, red, green, blue, silver), clear plastic, metallic, and iron-on fabric. Standard lengths are 4 m for paper, plastic, and metallic tapes, and 2 m for fabric tapes. An assorted starter pack (ref. 91240) is also available.
What should I do if the display shows ERROR 1?
Error 1 means the tape is jammed or the batteries are low. Remove the cassette, carefully free any jammed tape, cut off the excess, then reinsert the cassette. If the problem continues, replace all 6 AA alkaline batteries.
How do I use the print preview function?
Press SHIFT + PRINT to activate the PREVIEW function. The text scrolls automatically across the display so you can check the full content before printing. You can also scroll through the text manually using the Q and R arrow keys.
How do I store and print multiple labels in sequence?
Use the label break function (press SHIFT + D) to separate text for multiple labels within the buffer. The buffer holds up to 70 characters across 20 labels, and content is retained even when the machine is switched off. Move the cursor to the label you want to print, then press PRINT.
How do I reset the label maker if the keys stop responding?
Remove the 6 AA batteries and wait a few minutes before reinserting them. The machine will restart and fully reset. Important: after every battery replacement you will need to reselect your language by pressing SHIFT + CAPS, scrolling with Q or R, and confirming with the ` key.
How do I print on iron-on fabric tape for clothing?
Insert a DYMO iron-on fabric tape cassette (ref. 18767 or 18769, 2 m length). These tapes produce labels that you iron directly onto clothing. Cassette insertion and printing follow exactly the same steps as for paper or plastic tapes.

What does error 4 mean on the DYMO LETRATAG XR label maker and how can I resolve it?
Frequently Asked Questions - 28/01/2026
Response Notice-Facile

Error 4 on your DYMO LETRATAG XR indicates that the buffer is full. Your label maker can store up to 70 characters in total in its buffer, spread over a maximum of 20 labels. Once this limit is reached, you cannot add new text until you free up some space.

To resolve error 4 immediately: Press SHIFT + DEL to access the CLEAR function, which deletes all text stored in the buffer and resets the device. If you only want to partially delete the content, use the Q and R keys to navigate through the buffer, then press DEL to erase character by character.

Important to know: The content of the buffer persists even when you turn off the label maker. If you have created multiple labels and have not printed them, they remain in memory and take up space. To quickly navigate your buffer, use SHIFT + Q to go to the beginning or SHIFT + R to go to the end of the stored text.

To avoid this error in the future: Regularly print your labels or clear the buffer after use by pressing SHIFT + DEL. If you create long labels, keep in mind the limit of 70 characters in total. You can also split your labels using the SHIFT + D function (--ll--) to mark the breaks between labels and better track your memory usage.

What does the clock symbol on the DYMO LETRATAG XR mean and how do I use it?
Frequently Asked Questions - 23/11/2025
Response Notice-Facile

The clock symbol on the DYMO LETRATAG XR is a graphic symbol that you can insert into your labels to add a visual representation of time. This symbol does not automatically generate the current date or time, but allows you to display the clock as a simple pictogram on your label.

How to insert the clock symbol:

  • Press SYMBOL (SHIFT + SPACE key) to access the graphic symbols menu
  • The screen will display "A-I?" to prompt you to select a symbol category
  • Press the keys from A to I until you find the category containing the clock symbol
  • Use the Q or R keys to navigate between the available symbols in that category
  • Press the validation key (`) to insert the clock symbol into your label

The clock symbol is particularly useful for labels indicating opening hours, service times, or any time-related information associated with your products. You can combine this symbol with text (for example, "Open until 9 PM") to create clear and readable labels. There are 9 symbol categories (A to I), giving you a wide range of icons to enhance your labels beyond just text.

To cancel the insertion of a symbol at any time, press DEL to return to your text editing. This function is essential for improving the visibility of your labels, especially for marking operating hours, time-related information, or temporal visual codes.
