- Introduction

Congratulations on the purchase of your new device. You have chosen a high-quality product. Please familiarise

yourself with the scales before preparing them for use and using them for the first time. To do so, please carefully read the following operating instructions and the important safety information. Use the scales only as described and for the indicated purposes. Keep these instructions in a safe place. Be sure to also include all documentation when passing the scales on to others.

Intendeduse

These scales are intended for measuring the weight, body fat and body water percentage of people. The scales should not be used by pregnant people, dialysis patients, people with edemas, as well as people who have pacemakers or other medical implants. The scales are only intended for private use and not for commercial purposes. Any use of the scales other than previously mentioned or any product modification is prohibited and may result in injuries and / or product damage. The manufacturer accepts no liability for any damage caused by improper use. The scales are not intended for commercial use.

Note: The measurements and recommendations provided are not medically relevant. If your body fat or body water percentage is over or under the normal range on a long term basis, please consult a doctor.

Failure to observe this advice may result in damage to the device.

• Check the device for damage before use. If the device is damaged do not use it.
  ■ Remove the batteries if the device malfunctions or is defective. Otherwise, there is an increased risk of leaking.

WARNING! Never open the housing of the device. This could result in personal injury or damage to the device. Always have any repairs carried out at the service centre or by an electrical equipment repair specialist.

■ CAUTION! Do not store the scales in passageways. Otherwise, you or others could stumble over them.

Dangers arising from the use of batteries

WARNING! KEEP BAT- TERIES OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN! Swallowing

batteries can cause chemical burns, perforation of soft tissue, and death. Severe burns may occur within 2 hours of swallowing batteries. Seek immediate medical attention.

CAUTION!EXPLO- SION HAZARD!

Never recharge single-use batteries. Do not short-circuit or open them. The battery may overheat, ignite or explode. Never throw batteries into fire or water. The batteries may explode.

- Avoid extreme environmental conditions and temperatures, e.g. above radiators as this may affect the batteries. Otherwise, there is an increased risk of leaking.

Leaky or damaged batteries/rechargeable batteries can cause caustic burns upon contact with the skin. To avoid this, always wear suitable protective gloves in these circumstances!

■ Make sure you insert the batteries the right way round (polarity)! The “+” symbol must be visible on the top of the battery.

■ Batteries must not be disposed of in the normal domestic waste!

■ Every consumer is legally obliged to dispose of batteries in the proper manner!
- Keep batteries away from children; do not throw batteries in the fire, short-circuit batteries or take them apart.
- Avoid contact with the skin, eyes or mucous membranes if fluid has leaked from the batteries. In the event of contact with battery acid, thoroughly flush the affected area with clean water and seek immediate medical attention.
■ Remove the batteries from the device if they have not been used for a long period of time.
■ Remove spent batteries immediately from the device. There is an increased risk of leaks!
If the above instructions are not complied with, the batteries may discharge themselves beyond their end voltage. This poses a risk of leaking. If the batteries have leaked inside your product, immediately remove batteries to prevent product damage!

☐ Remove the battery insulation strip from the battery compartment in the direction of the arrow.

Or:

Open the battery compartment on the back of the product by pressing the tab of the battery cover 12 toward the battery compartment and lifting it upward.
☐ Remove the battery insulation strip. It is located between the battery and the battery compartment.
Reattach the battery cover to the battery compartment. Be sure the two extensions on the battery cover engage in the opening for the battery cover. Press the battery cover onto the battery compartment until you hear and feel it lock into place.

☐ Remove the battery insulation strip from the battery compartment in the direction of the arrow.

Or:

Remove the battery cover from the battery compartment in the direction of the arrow.
Remove the battery insulation strip. It is located between the battery and the battery compartment.
☐ Reattach the battery covered to the battery compartment.
☐ If the LC display does not appear to work, check that the battery has been inserted correctly and reinsert it if necessary.
☐ When you insert the battery, make sure that the contacts do not get bent.
☐ Follow the instructions for inserting the batteries as described in the section on "Replacing the batteries".

- Adjusting the time

The value (0:00) appears on the LC display 1 after the insulation strip has been removed from the batteries.

If you would like to adjust the time during normal operation, press the SET button 8 for 3 seconds. The hour display will flash.

Press the button 5 or the A button 7 to adjust the hour.
Press the SET button to confirm your entry. The minute display will flash.
Press the button 5 or the A button 7 to adjust the minutes.
Press the SET button to confirm your entry.

- Adjusting the unit of weight

Note: The factory default setting for the scales as supplied is "kg". If you would like to change to „lb" or „st" proceed as follows:

Press the SET button until you reach the "0.0 kg" display.
☐ Then, press the SET button for 3 seconds. The kg unit will begin to flash.
By pressing the button 5 within 2 seconds, you can select the desired unit of weight.

Note: If you select the „lb/st“ unit of weight, the height will be displayed in „feet/inches.“ If you select the „kg“ unit of weight, the height will be displayed in „cm“.

Use

- Switching on your scales/measuring your weight

Tip: Weigh yourself at the same time of day (preferably in the morning) after visiting the toilet, with an empty stomach and without clothing to ensure that your results are comparable.

Place the scales down on a solid, flat, horizontal surface.

Note: Do not place the scales on a carpet, as this may influence the results. If necessary you can place a board on the carpet and place the scales upon this. A solid floor covering is required in order to achieve correct weight measurements.

☐ You can attach the hand-held unit to the scales (see Fig. A) or have the option of holding it in your hand (see Fig. B).

Optionally: You can also hang the hand-held unit 4 on a nail or screw using the slot 11 on the reverse side and therefore hang it to the wall.

Important! The scales work via infrared transmission. You must therefore ensure that there is a direct connection between the infrared transmitter 2 on the scales and the infrared receiver 9 on the hand-held unit 4. There should be no obstacles between the scales and the hand-held unit 4. The infrared transmitter 2 and the infrared receiver 9 should also not be covered.

Note: There is a limited range between the infrared transmitter 2 and the infrared receiver 9 (max. 1.80 m vertically).

☐ Distribute weight evenly on both legs when you step onto the scales. The hour display disappears.

If at all possible, stand on the same areas of the platform each time and do not move. Moving during the weighing process can lead to discrepancies in the results. The scales will start to measure immediately. The measurement result will be displayed on the LC display 1. When the displayed weight flashes thrice, the measurement is complete.

Note: The scales are overloaded if the display shows "Err". Do not exceed the maximum load capacity of 180 kg (396 lb / 28 st).

☐ Step off the platform. The LC display will show the time once more.

Note: Do not use the scales in the vicinity of electromagnetic fields. This could affect the measurement results.

● Measuring the body fat and body water percentage

These scales work according to the B.I.A. principle, also known as Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis. This enables body parts to be measured within the space of a few seconds using a non-perceivable, completely harmless and safe current. Using this measurement of electrical resistance (impedance) and factoring in constants or individual values (age, height, sex), the percentages of body fat and body water can be determined approximately.

Entering your personal data

When you switch on the scales for the first time, the personal information is preset as follows:

Height: 165 cm

Age: 25 years

The following entry areas are available:

User codes: 1-12

Sex: male/female

Height: 100–250 cm/3'03.5 in–8'02.5 in

Age: 10–100 years

Press the SET button to begin setting the user code 21.
The user code flashes. Set the user code by using the V 5 and A 7 buttons.
☐ Press the SET button 8 to begin setting the sex.
The symbol for sex flashes. Set the sex using the 5 and 7 buttons.
Press the SET button to begin setting the height.
The value for the height 3 flashes. Set the height by using the √5 and ∧7 buttons.
Press the SET button to begin setting the age.
☐ The age display flashes. Set the age using the √5 and ∧7 buttons.
Press the SET button. The last measurement appears on the LC display 1 if applicable.
Stand with two bare feet and an even distribution of weight on the electrodes 3 of the scales. The measurement result will be

displayed on the LC display 1. When the displayed weight has flashed twice, the measurement is complete. Stay standing for the BIA measurement (appears on the LC display □□□). The body fat percentage and body water percentage will be displayed automatically (see Fig. C).

☐ Step off the platform. The LC display will show the time once more.

Analysis measurement for existing users

Press the SET button.

Press the 5/7 buttons to select the user code (1-12).

Press the start button6.

● Changing the batteries

Note: The scales feature a „Replace battery" indicator. If you operate the scales with batteries that are too weak, this will be indicated on the LC display 1 by the value "(Lo)" (for the handheld unit 4) or "bLo" (for the scales).

Replace the used batteries with new batteries of the same type (3V---, CR2032 button cells).

Proceed as follows:

Scales

1. Open the battery cover 12 on the back of the scales.

2. Remove the exhausted batteries and dispose of them as described in the section about "Disposal".

3. Place the new battery in the battery compartment. Please note the polarity. The "+" symbol must be visible on the top of the battery. Press the battery gently downwards and close the battery cover 12.

Note: When you insert the battery, make sure that the contacts do not get bent.

Changing the batteries/Troubleshooting

1. Note: If the scales do not appear to work, check that the battery has been inserted correctly and reinsert it if necessary.

Hand-held unit 4

1. Remove the battery cover 10 from the battery compartment in the direction of the arrow.
2. Remove the exhausted battery and dispose of it as described in the section about "Disposal".
3. Place the new battery in the battery compartment. Please note the polarity. The "+" symbol must be visible on the top of the battery. Press the battery gently downwards and push the battery cover 10 back on to the battery compartment.

Note: When you insert the battery, make sure that the contacts do not get bent.

Please repeat the measurement process barefoot or lightly moisten the soles of your feet.

The hand-held unit has not received data from the infrared sensor 2.

Repeat the measurement process. After selecting the user, step onto the scales barefoot within 15 seconds to start the body fat measurement. Ensure that there are no objects located between the infrared sensor 2 and infrared receiver 9 and that these are not covered.

● The LC display 1 shows „hLo“.

The battery of the hand-held unit is spent.

Change the battery in the hand-held unit.

● The LC display 1 shows „bLo“.

The battery in the scales is spent.

○ Change the battery in the scales.

●The LC display 1 only shows the time.

A weight measurement is not possible.

Check to see whether there are obstacles between the infrared transmitter 2 and infrared receiver 9 which may affect transmission (i.e. furniture, fingers, stomach, etc.). Repeat the measurement process and hold the infrared receiver 9 directly over the infrared transmitter 2 while doing so.

- Cleaning and care

Do not clean with chemical cleaners or scouring agents.

□ Clean the scales and hand-held unit with a slightly moist cloth. For more stubborn dirt you may also apply a weak soap solution to the cloth.

□ Never immerse the scales and hand-held unit 4 in water or other liquids.

Otherwise, the devices could be damaged.

☐ Ensure that no water enters the scales and hand-held unit 4. If this does occur, then wait until the devices have dried out fully before you use them again.

●Disposal

The packaging is made entirely of recyclable materials, which you may dispose of at local recycling facilities. The Green Dot is not valid for Germany.

Observe the marking of the packaging materials for waste separation, which are marked with abbreviations (a) and numbers (b) with following meaning: 1–7: plastics / 20–22: paper and fibre-board / 80–98: composite materials.

The product and packaging materials are recyclable, dispose of it separately for better waste treatment. The Triman logo is valid in France only.

Contact your local refuse disposal authority for more details of how to dispose of your worn-out product.

To help protect the environment, please dispose of the product properly when it has reached the end of its useful life and not in the household waste. Information on collection points and their opening hours can be obtained from your local authority.

Faulty or used batteries must be recycled in accordance with Directive 2006/66/EC and its amendments. Please return the batteries and / or the product to the available collection points.

Environmental damage through incorrect disposal of the batteries!

Batteries may not be disposed of with the usual domestic waste. They may contain toxic heavy metals and are subject to hazardous waste treatment rules and regulations. The chemical symbols for heavy metals are as follows: Cd = cadmium, Hg = mercury, Pb = lead. That is why you should dispose of used batteries at a local collection point.

● Warranty / Service centre

We provide a 3 year warranty from the date of purchase for defects in material and manufacture of the product.

The warranty does not cover:

• Damage from improper use.

·Wearparts.

• Damage caused by the customer.

If the device has been opened by an unauthorised repair shop.

This warranty does not affect the customer's legal rights. The customer must provide proof of purchase in order for any warranty claims within the warranty period to be honoured. Warranty claims must be filed with MGG Elektro GmbH, Düsseldorf, Germany within 3 years from the date of purchase.
