When the cup is sufficiently full, turn the knob in the flow of liquid stops. direction until the The quantity for two cups is always automatically twice as much as for one cup.
appliance indicator(s) Preparation of espresso and coffee Using coffee beans You have already prepared the appliance. When the rinsing process is finished, the following lamps will glow: “rinse”; “1 cup normal”; “1 cup strong”; “2 cups”; “coffee-meal”. ■ Place one or two cups beneath the espresso delivery pipe. You can raise or lower the delivery pipe to suit the size of your cups (15).
■ Select the desired
key (15). The mill will grind the required amount of coffeemeal. (Remember that you can change the degree of coarseness during the actual grinding). Following this, the coffee-meal will be moistened with a little water for the prebrew. After a short pause, the proper brewing operation will be carried out. Note: If you press the key, you will obtain one cup of strong espresso or coffee. The simultaneous preparation of two cups of strong espresso or coffee is not possible. If you accidentally actuate the key, you can cancel the action by pressing the or the key. Place a receptacle beneath the espresso delivery pipe, however, as a little water will run out. Using ready-ground coffee-meal You have already prepared the appliance. When the rinsing process is finished, the following lamps will glow: “rinse”; “1 cup normal”; “1 cup strong”; “2 cups”; “coffee-meal”.
■ Open the lid of the coffee feed funnel and put in one or two level measuring spoonfuls of espresso- or coffee-meal (16). ■ Press the key (17a). The “coffee-meal” indicator will blink and the “1 cup normal” and “2 cups” indicators will glow. ■ Now select and press the required (17b). 17a

Neither should you put in less than one level measuring spoonful, otherwise the espresso or coffee delivery will be automatically interrupted. Use only ground coffee-beans and not instant coffee or drink powders. appliance indicator(s) Breaking off the brewing process If you wish to break off the brewing process before it is completed, actuate any one of the following keys:
The process then will be stopped and the spent coffee automatically thrown out. Emptying the spent coffee holder and the drawer The spent coffee holder receives the used coffee-meal and the drawer takes up any remaining water.
■ If the “empty spent coffee holder” indicator glows, raise the drawer slightly and then pull it out (18). Empty both the spent coffee holder and the drawer. The “empty spent coffee holder” indicator will blink if the drawer is either not inserted or if it is not correctly located. Note: Whilst the “empty spent coffee holder” indicator is glowing or blinking, it is not possible to prepare espresso or coffee. ■ Empty the drawer when the drawer-float has risen to the mark (19).
Note: When you remove the drawer together with the spent coffee holder from the appliance before the “coffee grounds holder” indicator begins to glow, always empty the spent coffee holder, as the next indicator otherwise follows too late and the holder could overflow. Preparation of steam Steam can be used for frothing up milk for cappuccino and also for the heating of liquids. Since the production of steam requires a higher temperature than that for the preparation of espresso, the appliance is furnished with an additional pre-heating phase for steam.
■ Press the steam pre-selector key for about one second (20), whereupon the “steam” indicator will blink. When the preheating phase is completed, the “steam” indicator will glow and you can commence the production of steam.
appliance indicator(s) Due to the nature of the system, a little water will run out of the steam nozzle before each time steam is produced. Proceed therefore as follows:
■ Place a separate receptacle beneath the steam nozzle and turn the selector knob for steam/hot water to the position (21). ■ As soon as steam issues from the nozzle, turn the selector knob back to the position and remove the receptacle. Frothing up milk for cappuccino A cappuccino consists of 1/3 each of espresso, milk and milk-froth. Fill a large cup 1/3 with espresso. Then froth up the milk for the cappuccino. Use the separate frothing aid to achieve the optimum result. ■ Push the frothing aid onto the steam nozzle. Note: Use the frothing aid only for the frothing-up of milk. ■ Pour about 100 ml of low-fat milk into a small, narrow jug of not more than
0.5 litre capacity which will fit below the steam nozzle of the appliance.
Note: The milk should be well-cooled and the jug used should also be cold, so do not rinse it first in warm water. ■ Hold the jug under the frothing aid in such a way, that the nozzle section dips completely into the milk. ■ Turn the selector knob for steam/hot water to the
position (22). Hold the jug steady during the frothing operation and do not allow the nozzle to touch the bottom of the jug, so as not to impede the outflow of steam. ■ After the frothing operation, turn the knob for steam/hot water to the position and remove the receptacle. Then add the milk and the milkfroth to the espresso. ■ Clean the frothing aid and the steam nozzle with a moist cloth immediately after the frothing operation is finished. ■ To remove any eventual residue of milk from the steam nozzle, place a receptacle beneath the nozzle and turn the knob for steam/hot water to the position for just a moment.
appliance indicator(s) Heating liquids ■ Pull off the frothing aid
■ Press the steam pre-selector key (23), whereby the “steam” indicator will blink. When the pre-heating is completed, the “steam” indicator will glow and you can commence the production of steam. ■ Hold the vessel containing the liquid under the steam nozzle and dip the nozzle into the liquid. Turn the selector knob for steam/hot water to the position (24).
■ When the liquid is sufficiently heated, turn the knob back to the position and remove the vessel. ■ Clean the steam nozzle with a moist cloth immediately after the heating operation is finished. ■ To remove any eventual residues from the steam nozzle, place a receptacle beneath the nozzle and turn the knob for steam/hot water to the position for just a moment. Concluding the production of steam The preparedness of the appliance to produce steam can be cancelled in 2 different ways:
1. ■ After steam has been produced, turn the selector knob for steam/hot
water to the position. After about 10 minutes, the appliance will automatically cease to be ready for steam production and the “ON/OFF“and “steam“ indicators will blink.
2. If you want to prepare espresso or coffee immediately after producing
steam: ■ After the steam has been produced, turn the selector knob for steam/hot water to the position. Turn off the steam pre-selection by pressing the steam pre-selector key , whereby the “ON/OFF“ and “steam“ indicators will blink. In order to prepare espresso or coffee as usual, you must either cool down the appliance from the steam temperature to the espresso and coffee temperature, or fill the heating system. ■ Place a receptacle beneath the steam delivery pipe. ■ Turn the selector knob for steam/hot water to the position. The outflow of water will be stopped automatically. ■ Return the selector knob for steam/hot water to the position, whereby the “ON/OFF“, “rinse“, “1 cup normal“, “1 cup strong“, “2 cups“ and “coffee-meal“ indicators will glow. You can then prepare espresso or coffee as usual.
appliance indicator(s) Preparing hot water With this appliance, you can prepare hot water for making instant drinks, etc. ■ Place a cup beneath the steam nozzle and turn the selector knob for steam/hot water to the position. ■ When the cup is sufficiently filled with hot water, return the selector knob to the position. Switching off the appliance ■ Place a receptacle beneath the espresso delivery pipe and press the key. A rinsing operation will then be automatically carried out, after which the appliance will switch itself off. Note: This rinsing operation will also be carried out when the pre-set automatic switch-off mechanism comes into play. Cleaning and general care ■ Always pull out the mains plug before any cleaning operation and allow the appliance to cool down. Do not use any materials which scratch, scrape or corrode. Wipe the casing inside and outside with a moist cloth only. ■ Clean the drawer, drawer attachment, spent coffee holder and base grid with warm water and washing-up liquid (25). ■ Rinse out the water tank with fresh water. ■ Never put the appliance or any of its parts into the dishwasher.
Caution! The steam nozzle can become very hot. Be careful not to burn or scald yourself. Never assemble or disassemble the steam nozzle whilst it is hot. ■ Clean the steam nozzle immediately after the milk-frothing operation by allowing the appliance to produce steam for 1-2 seconds, thus blowing any residue out of the nozzle. Then wipe down the nozzle with a moist cloth. If the nozzle has become blocked, clear it with a needle. Where necessary, the steam nozzle can be screwed out in an anticlockwise direction using the hexagonal key on the measuring spoon, after which it can be thoroughly cleaned (26). After cleaning, screw back the nozzle in a clockwise direction. appliance indicator(s)
The frothing aid can be dismantled in order to clean it thoroughly. ■ Pull the two parts A and C from the metal tube B (27). Rinse all 3 parts in warm water. If the small suction opening in part A has become blocked, you can poke it clear it with the aid of a needle.
