Which battery to use with the Metabo AHS 36-52 V?

Use a Li-Ion 36 V battery from the Metabo range (CAS). Compatible models are the 36 V/2.0 Ah to 36 V/6.0 Ah batteries.

What is the recommended charging time?

The charging time depends on the charger and battery. With an ASC 36 V charger, a 2.0 Ah battery charges in about 30 minutes and a 6.0 Ah in 90 minutes.

How to sharpen the hedge trimmer blades?

The blades are precision machined. Use a fine file to sharpen the curved teeth. Disconnect the battery before any operation. It is recommended to have the sharpening done by a professional every 2 years.

What to do if the machine stops suddenly?

This may be due to an overload (branch too thick) or a discharged battery. Release the trigger, remove the battery, wait 5 seconds then reinsert the battery. If the problem persists, check the blades (jamming) or the charger.

Is the hedge trimmer waterproof?

No, the device is not designed for use in the rain. Avoid any exposure to water. Use it in dry weather and store it in a dry place.

How to clean the hedge trimmer after use?

Remove the battery. Clean the blades with a soft brush and soapy water. Dry thoroughly and spray a special blade lubricant (e.g. WD-40). Never immerse the device.

What is the warranty of the Metabo AHS 36-52 V?

Metabo offers a 2-year warranty for manufacturing defects. Registering the product on the Metabo website extends the warranty to 3 years subject to conditions.

Can I use a battery from another brand?

No, exclusively use Metabo CAS batteries (36 V series). Using a non-compatible battery may damage the device and void the warranty.

How to replace the blades?

Remove the battery. Unscrew the blade fixing screws (usually Torx). Replace with a new original Metabo blade (ref. 923056). Tighten to the indicated torque (approx. 5 Nm).

1. Declaration of Conformity

We declare under our sole responsibility: These cordless hedge trimmers, identified by type and serial number *1), comply with all relevant requirements of the directives *2) and standards *3). Technical file at *4) - see page 3.

2. Specified Use

The cordless hedge trimmer is suitable for cutting hedges and bushes.

The user bears sole responsibility for any damage caused by improper use.

Generally accepted accident prevention regulations and the enclosed safety information must be observed.

3. General Safety Instructions

For your own protection and for the protection of your power tool, pay attention to all parts of the text that are marked with this symbol!

4. Special Safety Instructions

Keep body parts well away from the cutting blade. Never attempt to remove cuttings with the blade running, or to hold on to material to be cut. Remove jammed cuttings only with the machine switched off. A moment of inattentiveness when using the hedge trimmer can result in serious injuries.

Carry the hedge trimmer by the bow-type handle when the cutting blade is stationary. When transporting or storing the hedge trimmer, always pull on the enclosure. Careful handling of the machine reduces the risk of injury from the cutting blade.

Make sure you only hold the machine by the isolated handle grips: the cutting blade could strike hidden power lines. Any contact with a live power line may transfer current to the exposed metal parts of the power tool and could give the operator an electric shock.

Never use in rain or on wet hedges.

Persons under the age of 16 must not used the hedge trimmer.

Never use an incomplete machine, or one on which an unauthorised modification has been made.

Do not switch on the machine if tool parts or guard devices are missing or defective.

The machine features safety two-hand operation. Have the machine repaired if it can be activated with only one switch.

The machine is provided with a "Quick stop" function. Have the machine repaired if braking time is clearly lengthened.

Wear ear protectors. Exposure to noise can cause hearing loss.

Danger of injury from the sharp edges of the blades. Never touch the blades. Wear protective gloves.

Always wear protective goggles, gloves, and suitable shoes when working with the hedge trimmer.

Always hold the machine with both hands and stand firmly on the ground. Pay attention to obstacles in the working area - danger of tripping. Keep the cutting blade well away from the body.

Examine the area to be cut and remove wire or other foreign bodies.

If the cutting blades come to a standstill due to a particularly hard branch or foreign body (wire in a hedge) and the stoppage cannot be corrected by pulling the machine back, the motor must first be switched off and the battery pack removed from the machine before the cause of the blockage can be removed manually from the cutting blade.

For other activities (e.g. removing twigs or cuttings), deposit the machine outside the working area.

Lay the machine down such that persons are not at risk.

Remove the battery pack from the machine when not in use.

For storage and transportation, always slide the enclosure onto the cutting blades. (It has been slid on correctly if the Metabo lettering faces upwards).

Only carry the machine by the bow-type handle.

Remove the battery pack from the machine before any adjustments, conversions or servicing are performed.

Before fitting the battery pack, make sure that the machine is switched off.

Protect battery packs from water and moisture!

Do not expose battery packs to naked flame!

Do not use faulty or deformed battery packs!

Do not open battery packs!

Do not touch or short-circuit battery packs!

Slightly acidic, flammable fluid may leak from defective Li-ion battery packs!

If battery fluid leaks out and comes into contact with your skin, rinse immediately with plenty of water. If battery fluid leaks out and comes into contact with your eyes, wash them with clean water and seek medical attention immediately.

6. Initial Operation

Check Quick stop:

Switch machine on briefly and then off again.

Have the machine repaired if braking time is clearly lengthened.

7. Use

7.1 Battery pack

Charge the battery pack before use (11).

If performance diminishes, recharge the battery pack.

The ideal storage temperature is between 10^ C and 30^ C.

"Li-Power" li-ion battery packs have a capacity and signal indicator: (10)

- Press the button (9), the LEDs indicate the charge level.

- If one LED is flashing, the battery pack is almost flat and must be recharged.

7.2 Removing and inserting the battery pack Removal:

Press the battery pack release (8) button and pull the battery pack (11) down.

Inserting:

Slide in the battery pack (11) until it engages.

7.3 Switching On and Off

Switching on (safety two-hand operation):

- Press button (5) and d button (7).

Switching off:

- Release one of the two actuated switches.

Thanks to the Quick stop, the cutting blades come to a standstill within 0.3 seconds.

Have the machine repaired if braking time is clearly lengthened.

The noise that sometimes occurs during a machine Quick stop is design-related and has no influence on operation and service life.

7.4 Cleaning the cutting blade

(after every use)

Before cleaning:

Switch the machine off. Remove battery pack (11) from machine.

Wear protective gloves.

Remove contamination, remains of blades etc. (e.g. with a brush or cloth)

After cleaning: Treat cutting blade with Metabo hedge trimmer care oil 6.30474 or Pump Spray 6.30475 (biologically degradable).

8. Servicing

It is advisable to have blunt cutting blades sharpened in a specialist workshop. Check cutting blades regularly for damage and have them repaired in a specialist workshop immediately if necessary.

9. Accessories

Use only genuine Metabo accessories.

11. Environmental Protection

Observe national regulations on environmentally compatible disposal and on the recycling of disused machines, packaging and accessories.

Battery packs must not be disposed of with regular waste. Please return faulty or used battery packs to your Metabo dealer.

In accordance with European Guideline 2002/ 96/EC on used electronic and electric equipment and its implementation in national legal systems, used power tools must be collected separately and handed in for environmentally compatible recycling. Before disposal, discharge the battery pack in the power tool. Prevent the contacts from short-circuiting (e.g. by protecting them with adhesive tape).
