How to check the housing's waterproofing before a dive?
Before each use, perform a waterproof test by immersing the empty housing (without camera) in water for 3 seconds, then 30 seconds, and finally 3 minutes while operating all buttons. Check that no water droplets enter inside. Also inspect the O-ring: it must be properly installed, free of dust, hair, or fibers.
How to properly install the camera in the housing?
Make sure the camera is off. Remove the strap, lens cap and filters. Carefully place the camera in the housing. Insert a packet of silica gel (included) between the bottom of the camera and the housing to prevent fogging. Check that the O-ring is in place and clean. Close the cover by turning the locking knob counterclockwise until it stops.
What maintenance after a sea outing?
After use in the sea, immediately rinse the housing with fresh water (without opening the housing containing the camera). Immerse it for 30 minutes to 1 hour to dissolve salt. Operate all buttons under water to remove residues. Then dry with a soft, lint-free cloth, in the shade, without using a hair dryer or exposure to the sun.
What to do if fog forms inside the housing?
Fog is often due to saturated silica gel or residual humidity. Open the housing, remove the camera and silica gel, and let everything dry completely in a dry place. Replace with new silica gel. Also check that the O-ring is in good condition and properly lubricated. If the problem persists, perform another waterproof test.
How to replace the O-ring?
Use the included removal tool (PTAC-05). Gently insert it between the O-ring and the groove, lift the O-ring and remove it. Inspect the groove and the O-ring: remove any dirt with a clean cloth. Apply a thin layer of Olympus silicone grease to the new O-ring, then place it evenly in its groove. Make sure it does not protrude. Replace the O-ring at least once a year.
What batteries to use for the built-in light?
The light requires two AAA batteries (alkaline or NiMH). Open the battery compartment cover on the back of the housing, insert the batteries respecting polarity (+ and - markings), then close. Battery life is approximately 4 hours continuous with alkaline batteries.
Can I use an external underwater flash with this housing?
Yes, you can connect an external flash such as the UFL-2 or UFL-1 (optional) using an underwater fiber optic cable (PTCB-E02). Plug the cable into the slot provided on the housing. For the UFL-2 flash, enable RC mode on the flash; for the UFL-1, disable RC on the camera.
How to change the underwater shooting mode?
On the compatible camera (E-PL3), assign the underwater mode to an Fn button via the menu. Then press this button to switch between Underwater Wide (for landscapes and fish schools) and Underwater Macro (for small subjects). To exit the mode, turn the mode dial or press and hold the Fn button.
Is the housing compatible with all camera lenses?
No, compatibility is limited to tested lenses. For the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 14-42mm II and II R lens, you must use the included anti-reflection ring (POSR-EP05) and the optional zoom gear (PPZR-EP02). Other lenses may require specific accessories. Refer to the manual for the list of compatible accessories.
