INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
What you need to know about using the Inventum forehead thermometer
Before using a forehead thermometer the following should be noted:
- This thermometer is suitable for measuring the temperature of the body only on the forehead.
The physiological temperature ranges are:
- the forehead temperature, measured with a forehead thermometer: 35.8 to 37.6°C
Tip: Temperatures measured with different thermometers cannot be compared with one another. Tell your doctor or take into account when diagnosing yourself what thermometer you used in what part of the body to measure the temperature.
- The temperature of a healthy person is also affected by the following factors:
- The person's individual level (individual metabolism)
- Age (body temperature is higher in babies and small children and falls with increasing age. Greater temperature fluctuations occur in children faster and more often.)
- Clothing
- The outside temperature
- The time of day (Body temperature is lower in the morning and rises as the day goes on.)
Tip: Measuring the temperature gives a figure that provides information about a person's current temperature. If you are unsure about interpreting the results or if the result is abnormal (e.g. fever), you should consult your family doctor. This also applies to small changes in temperature, if there are other symptoms of illness, such as agitation, severe sweating, flushed skin, high pulse rate, tendency to collapse etc.

Water-tight sensor button to turnor/off and for taking readings (Scan) LCD display battery cover Button to recall saved values (memory button M)Changing the battery
Remove the screw from the battery compartment with a small screwdriver and open the lid. Remove the battery. Take a new CR-2032 lithium battery and align it with the positive terminal (anode) facing upwards. Place the battery into the battery compartment. Place the lid back and screw it tightly.
When the battery gets weak, the battery warning symbol appears (figure A). It is still possible to measure the temperature. Battery must be replaced.

If the battery is nearly flat, "Lo" and the battery warning symbol are displayed (figure B). The thermometer switches off. Replace battery promptly.

Use of the thermometer
- Keep the De SCAN-button (fully pressed down for one second) (special design to avoid accidental contact). The system begins with a self-test after 1 second; see Figure 1. When switching on, never press the SCAN-button for more than 5 seconds, as otherwise you will get a special measurement mode in which the device will not make a correct measurement. Let the device switch off automatically and then switch it on again correctly.

-
As soon as the self-test is complete, will appear the last measured temperature on the display (Figure 2). This is a sign that the thermometer is ready to make a measurement.
-
Place the measuring head on the temple, keep the SCAN-button held down and then pull evenly across the forehead to the other temple (Figure 3).
-
Let go of the SCAN-button and read the measured value. At the end of the measurement an audible signal will sound. The measured temperature appears on the display together with a face symbol (see Figure 4).
-
A laughing face means a temperature below 38^ C , whereas a sad face, accompanied by one long and then two short signals indicates a temperature above 38^ C (see Figure 5 and 6).
-
The temperature display can be switched from Celsius to Fahrenheit (and vice versa). To do this, keep the SCAN-button pressed down and press briefly on the memory button (Fig. 7 and 8).

- If the words "Lo" or "Hi" appear, the measured temperature lies outside the measurement range (details can be found under Technical Specifications); see Figure 9 and 10.
- The remark "Err" appears if the operating temperature is NOT within the ambient operating conditions (details can be found under Technical Specifications); see Figure 11.
- This thermometer has 10 memory spaces. The last temperature to be measured will be saved in memory "0", whereby previous values will be relocated by one memory space (see Figure 12). In order to recall saved values press repeatedly on the memory button. The memory space will be displayed on the upper left.
- The interval between individual measurements should be at least 10 seconds. This ensures exact determination of temperature.
- After completion of measurements the forehead thermometer switches itself off automatically after 1 minute.

Clean the water-tight sensor every time after use with a soft cotton which has been moistened with disinfectant. Clean the thermometer casing with a soft, dry cloth.
The thermometer should not be washed off in water. On no account should abrasive cleaners be used or the casing of the forehead thermometer be immersed in water or other liquids.
Protection
Do not expose the forehead thermometer to extreme temperatures, high air humidity or direct sunlight. Avoid strong knocks or vibrations and do not drop the thermometer. Do not touch the tip of the sensor with the fingers. Do not take the forehead thermometer apart.
Fault finding and elimination
-
Temperature reading is always too low:
-
The sensor was not drawn correctly over the forehead.
- The tip must be placed properly on the temple. If the sensor is not properly positioned, this can cause temperature readings to be too low.
• The water-tight lens is dirty.
- Clean the lens properly with a soft cotton cloth, which has been moistened with some disinfectant.
• The lens is damaged.
- Consult your dealer or our customer service department.
- The measured temperature is outside the measuring range.
- The scanning sequences were not carried out on the temple/forehead.
- This may happen when the scanning sequence is started before the forehead thermometer is placed correctly on
the temple and the ambient temperature is not within the measuring range (see "Technical Specifications"). Ensure that the SCAN-button is not released before the thermometer has been drawn completely across the forehead.
3. Warning "weak battery"
- The battery is too weak for a measurement to be made. - replace battery (see "Replacing the battery").
