Frequently Asked Questions - VitalScan BP1750 BRAUN

How to position the blood pressure monitor on the wrist?
Attach the device on the palm side of your wrist, about 2 cm above the palm line, ensuring the cuff fits snugly.
What is the best position to take a measurement?
Sit down, relax, do not move or speak. Keep the device at heart level during measurement.
How many measurements can the memory store?
The BP1750 model stores up to 90 measurements. The memory is non-volatile: data is retained even when changing batteries.
How to display the average of the last three measurements?
Turn off the device, then press the memory button. 'A-3' is displayed, indicating the average of the last three measurements.
What to do if the screen shows 'ERR'?
This indicates a measurement or handling error. Repeat the measurement following the instructions carefully. If the problem persists, contact an authorized customer service.
Why do successive measurements differ?
Blood pressure naturally varies. For a healthy adult, variations of 10 to 20 mmHg are normal. Also ensure the cuff is properly positioned and you are at rest.
How to set the time and date?
Press the date/time button. The hours flash: adjust with the memory button. Press again for minutes, then for the date (month, day). To exit, press the date/time button.

Intended use of Braun VitalScan 3

Braun VitalScan 3 is a blood pressure monitor that has been developed for easy and accurate blood pressure measurements from the wrist. The measuring accuracy of Braun VitalScan 3 was tested at the time of manufacture and was proven by clinical research in accordance with AAMI/ANSI-SP10.

What you should know about blood pressure

Blood pressure constantly changes throughout the day. It rises sharply in the early morning and declines during the late morning. Blood pressure rises again in the afternoon and finally drops to a low level at night. Also, it may vary in a short period of time. Therefore, readings from successive measurements can fluctuate.

| Time | SYS (mm HG) | | ---------- | ----------- | | 6:5 h12 | ~120 | | 18:0 | ~90 |

Note: Blood pressure readings from a healthy 31-year old male, measured at 5-minute intervals

Blood pressure measured in a doctor's office only provides a momentary value. Repeated measurements at home better reflect one's actual blood pressure values under everyday conditions.

Moreover, many people have a different blood pressure when they measure at home, because they tend to be more relaxed than when in the doctor's office.

Regular blood pressure measurements taken at home can provide your doctor with valuable information on your normal blood pressure values under actual «everyday» conditions.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has set up the following standard blood pressure values when measured at resting pulse:

Blood pressure (mmHg)Normal values Mild hypertension Severehypertension
SYS = systole= upper valueup to 140140 – 180over 180
DIA = diastole= lower valueup to 9090 – 110over 110

  • Take off wrist watch and jewelry before fitting the monitor on the measuring arm.
  • Wait approximately 3 minutes before repeating a measurement.

Taking a measurement

  1. While taking a measurement, sit down, relax, keep still, especially the hand of the measuring arm, do not move or speak.
  2. Fasten the monitor on the palm side of your wrist, roughly 2 cm below the palm line. Make sure that the cuff (G) fits tightly.

Memory function

Your blood pressure monitor can store the readings of 90 measurements (BP 1700 model: 60 measurements). Storing is done automatically after each completed measurement. The memory is nonvolatile. This means that you will not lose stored data when changing batteries. The memory cannot be cleared. Once the memory is full, the oldest values will be overwritten.

The BP 1750 model features also an average function to display the average reading of the last three measurements.

Recalling stored and average readings

  • To recall stored and average readings, first turn the device off.
  • Then press the memory button («memo») (B).
