Important Safeguards
- Read the use instructions completely and keep them during the entire lifetime of the appliance.
- Make sure your voltage corresponds to the voltage printed on the bottom of the steam boiler. This appliance is designed for household use only.
- Place the steam station on a stable, horizontal (level) surface (e.g. table, floor). Use the iron on a stable surface and rest it on the iron stand or upright on its heel rest.
- During ironing pauses, always place the iron on the iron stand or upright on its heel rest (making sure that the heel rest is placed on a stable surface).
- The steam station must not be left unattended while it is connected to the supply mains.
- The cord and the steam hose should never come in contact with hot objects or with the hot sole plate.
- Never immerse the appliance in water or other liquids.
- This appliance is not intended for use by children or persons with reduced physical or mental capabilities, unless they are given supervision by a person responsible for their safety.
- Keep the appliance away from children. High temperatures and hot steam could lead to burns.
- Caution: Steam hose, steam boiler and especially the iron stand get hot during use.
- Steam ironing can cause condensation water which may drop from the back of the iron board onto the floor.
- The iron is not to be used if it has dropped, if there are visible signs of damage or if it is leaking. Check cord and hose regularly for possible damage.
- If the appliance (including cord) shows any defect, stop using it and take it to a Braun Service Centre for repair. Faulty or unqualified repair work may cause accidents or injury to the user.
- Before leaving our factory all our products are rigorously tested. For this reason, there might be a small quantity of remaining water left in the steam boiler.

Filling the water tank
- For easy filling, the water tank (13) is removable.
- Open the lid (12) and use it as a handle to pull up the water tank when removing it (a).
- Fill the water tank to the «max» marking with tap water. If you have extremely hard water we recommend that you use a mixture of 50% tap water and 50% distilled water. Never use distilled water exclusively. Do not add any vinegar, additives, descaling agents or other chemicals.
- When attaching the water tank to the steam station, make sure that it clicks into place.
Connecting your steam station
- Place the iron on the iron stand (5) (or upright on its heel rest (9)), plug in the power cord and press the on/off switch (1) (b).
- Set the temperature selector (7) according to the ironing guide on the heel rest of the iron or the label in your garments (c).
- The temperature pilot light (8) goes off when the selected temperature is reached.
Steam ironing
- For steam ironing, set the temperature selector (7) within the red section.
- The steam pilot light (4) goes off when steam is ready (after approx. 2 minutes). During use, the steam pilot light will go on and off indicating that the boiler is working to maintain the required steam pressure.
- When pressing the steam button (6), steam will be released from the sole plate (d).
- You can adjust the steam quantity using the steam regulator (2).
- When starting the ironing session or when you have not used the steam function for some time, the steam still present in the supply hose will condense into water. This may cause some spluttering in the appliance and a few drops of water may come out from the sole plate. Before starting ironing just hold the iron over a cloth and press the steam control button until the steam production has normalised.
Dry ironing
If you want to iron without steam, do not press the steam button (6).
Vertical steam
Hanging curtains and clothes (jackets, suits, coats) can be steam-ironed to remove wrinkles. Set the temperature selector within the red section. Hold the iron vertically, press the steam button while passing over the material in up and down movements.
Caution: The steam is very hot. Never direct steam towards persons.
Textile Protector (SI 9720 model only)
The Textile Protector (18) protects delicate fabrics from heat damage and makes it possible to iron most dark fabrics without an intermediate cloth. To check the reaction of your fabrics before you start ironing, we recommend that you iron a small section of material on the reverse side.
With the Textile protector, you are able to iron most delicate fabrics with the temperature setting «●●●» or «max». We recommend a medium steam setting. After having attached the Textile Protector, wait about 1 1/2 minutes before you start ironing. Always store your iron with the Textile Protector detached.
Refilling the water tank
When pressing the steam button with a low water level in the tank, the water low indicator (3) will light up. Then the steam function is blocked until the water tank is refilled.
- Press the on/off switch (1) to turn off the appliance before refilling (e).
- Refill the water tank to the «max» marking as described above, then switch on the appliance again.
After ironing
- Press the on/off switch to turn off the appliance (f).
- Unplug and let cool down before storing.
- Empty the water tank.
Cleaning and maintenance
Before cleaning, always make sure that the appliance is unplugged and has cooled down.
Cleaning the iron
To clean the sole plate, use steel wool. Then wipe the sole plate clean with a cloth. Never use scouring pads, vinegar or other chemicals. To clean the handle, use a damp cloth.
Cleaning the boiler
To maintain optimum performance, clean the boiler after every 10 to 20 times of usage depending on the amount of calcium in your water. Proceed as follows (g):
Detach the water tank. Make sure the appliance has cooled down.
Pull off the silicone cap (15). Use a coin to unscrew the metal cap (14) (counterclockwise).
Insert the funnel (17) into the boiler opening. Fill in 0.5 l tap water, shake the boiler to rinse well, then empty it.
Repeat the process until no more calcium particles come out from the boiler.
After cleaning the boiler, remove the funnel, screw the steel cap back into the boiler opening (clockwise) and put on the silicone cap again.
Trouble-shooting guide
| Problem | Help |
| Drops coming out of the steam vents | When you start ironing or after ironing breaks, this is normal (hose is cold – steam condenses). Hold the iron over a cloth and press the steam button until the steam production has normalised. Select a higher temperature (red section of temperature selector). Set the steam regulator to a lower setting. |
| No steam at all | Press the steam button. Make sure that water tank is correctly inserted and filled with water. The water low indicator (3) lights up when you need to refill the water tank. |
| Low steam quantity | Choose a higher setting on the steam regulator. Wait for the steam pilot light (4) to go off. Remark: Sometimes hot steam is hardly visible, especially when the room temperature is high or the iron temperature is near to max. |
| Calcium particles coming out of the steam vents | Flush the boiler with tap water (see «Cleaning the boiler»). When filling the water tank, add distilled water to the tap water. |
| Water drops coming out of the boiler when the water tank has been removed | Under certain conditions the pump might start running when the water tank is removed. Turn off the appliance before refilling to avoid this effect. |
