How to start the SM 3718 blender?

Make sure the container is properly locked onto the motor unit. Plug in the appliance, then turn the rotary control to the desired position: P for pulse (hold), I for minimum speed or II for maximum speed.

What is the maximum capacity of the container?

The maximum capacity is 1500 ml. For light or foaming foods (e.g., milk), do not exceed the 1000 ml mark to avoid overflow.

Can I blend hot liquids?

No, it is not recommended to pour hot liquids into the container due to the risk of steam jets and burns. Allow to cool before blending.

How to clean the blender?

Unplug the appliance. Clean the motor unit with a damp cloth without immersion. For the container, pour 1000 ml of warm water with a little detergent, run for a few seconds, then rinse. Do not wash in the dishwasher. The blade and seal are removable for thorough cleaning.

What to do if the blender does not start?

First check that the container is correctly installed: it must be locked onto the motor unit. If the safety switch is not engaged, the appliance will not operate. Also make sure the rotary control is not in the 0 position.

Are the blades removable?

Yes, the blade can be disassembled for cleaning. Turn the drive shaft coupling clockwise and pull upwards. Caution: the blades are very sharp. For reassembly, turn counterclockwise until locked.

Can I blend dry foods like nuts?

It is not recommended to run the appliance empty or with only dry foods (nuts, almonds). Always add a little liquid to facilitate blending and avoid damaging the motor.

How to store the power cord?

The cord can be wrapped under the base of the appliance. Unroll it completely before each use to avoid overheating.

Is the blender suitable for children?

No, this appliance is not intended for use by children. Keep out of reach of children, especially during operation and cleaning due to the sharp blades.

Before using the appliance, read the following instructions carefully and keep this manual for future reference. The appliance must only be used by persons familiar with these instructions.

Connection to the mains supply

Make sure that the supply voltage corresponds with the voltage marked on the rating label of the appliance. This product complies with all binding CE labelling directives.

Important safety instructions

• In order to avoid hazards, repairs to this electrical appliance or its power cord must be carried out by our customer service. If repairs are needed, please send the appliance to our customer service department (see appendix).
• Before cleaning the appliance, ensure it is disconnected from the power supply and has cooled down completely.
  • To avoid any risk of electric shock, do not clean the appliance with liquids or immerse it in a liquid.

• Caution: the blade is extremely sharp. To prevent injuries, take

special care when cleaning the appliance and when emptying the blender jug.

• Caution: do not put hot liquid into the blender jug.
• Extra care is required when pouring hot liquids into the blender jug in case a jet of vapour should escape from the appliance.

- Warning! Use the blender only when the blender jug lid is in the operating position as specified in this manual.

- Never reach into the jug with your hand when it is on top of the motor housing.

• Make sure you use a suitable tool, such as a spatula, to push food down.

- Warning! Any misuse can cause severe personal injury.

• Always switch the appliance off and remove

the plug from the wall socket,

• before opening the lid,
• before removing or fitting the blender jug,
• before cleaning,
• in case of any malfunction during use,
• after use.

- This appliance is intended for domestic or similar applications, such as - in shops, offices and other similar working environments, - in agricultural working environments, - by customers in hotels, motels etc. and similar establishments, - in bed-and breakfast type environments.

- The appliance may only be used by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or

lacking experience and knowledge, if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the use of the appliance and fully understand all dangers and safety precautions involved.

- Children must not be permitted to operate the appliance. The appliance and its power cord must be kept well away from children.

- Children must not be permitted to play with the appliance.

• Caution: Keep any packaging materials well away from children – these materials are a potential source of danger, e.g. of suffocation.
• Every time the appliance is used, the main body including the power cord as well as any attachment fitted should be checked thoroughly for any defects. Should the appliance, for instance, have been dropped onto a hard surface, or if excessive force has been used to pull the power cord, it must no longer be used: even invisible damage may have adverse effects on the operational safety

of the appliance.

• The appliance should only be placed on a level surface. Do not allow the housing or its power cord to come into contact with open flames or any hot surfaces such as hot-plates.
• Do not let the power cord hang free.
• Do not leave the appliance unattended while connected. Always remove the plug from the wall socket, even if you leave the room only for a short while.
• Do not touch any moving parts during operation - this can be extremely dangerous.
• Keep your hair, hands, and loose clothing away from moving parts, openings, and vents to avoid entanglement.
• When removing the plug from the wall socket, never pull on the power cord; always grip the plug itself.
• No responsibility will be accepted if damage results from improper use, or if these instructions are not complied with.

Before using for the first time

Before the appliance is used for the first time, the blender jug and the lid should be thoroughly cleaned as described in the section Cleaning and care.

Safety switch

A special safety switch in the motor housing ensures that the appliance can only be operated if the blender jug is properly locked in position.

Before removing the blender jug, make sure that the rotary control is in position 0. This also applies when fitting the blender jug to the motor housing. If the control is not in its off-position (0), the motor will start immediately.

Operation

• Fit the blender jug to the recesses in the motor housing with its handle to the right.
• Put the liquid ingredients into the blender jug. The jug has a maximum capacity of 1500 ml. To avoid possible foaming or spilling when processing ‘foamable’ or thin liquids such as milk, do not fill the jug over the 1000 ml mark.
• Replace the lid so that the spout is completely covered.
• To add ingredients during operation, the stopper in the centre of the lid can be removed by turning it in an anti-clockwise direction and then lifting it off. Do not put any objects into the blender

jug while the appliance is operating.

• Insert the plug into the wall outlet and use the rotary control to select the required power setting.
• Caution: do not operate when the blender jug is empty. Do not fill it with dry items only, such as nuts, almonds etc.
• After using the blender, switch off and remove the plug from the wall socket. Wait until the motor has come to a complete standstill before removing the blender jug.

Wind-up power cord storage

The power cord can be wound up for storage on the underside of the unit.

Unwind it completely before operation.

Cleaning and care

• Always remove the plug from the wall socket before cleaning the appliance.
- To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not clean the motor housing or the power cord with liquids or immerse them. The motor housing may be wiped with a slightly damp, lint-free cloth.
- Do not use abrasives, harsh cleaning solutions or hard brushes for cleaning, and do not clean in a dish-washer.
- For cleaning after use, fill the blender jug with approximately 1000 ml warm water and a mild cleaning detergent. Let the appliance run for a short period as described in the section Operation. Then rinse the blender jug, lid and stopper with fresh water. All parts must me thoroughly dried afterwards.
• If necessary, the sealing gasket on the

lid can be removed for cleaning. Before the appliance is used again, the gasket must be replaced in such a way that the cut-outs in the gasket are positioned directly over the openings in the lid.

- If required, the blade can be detached for cleaning: remove the drive coupling from the inside of the mixing bowl by turning it clockwise and then lifting it out. Caution: The blades are extremely sharp! Take the gasket off the drive coupling. Clean the gasket and blade with a brush. To re-assemble, put the gasket back onto the drive coupling and fit the assembly back onto the bottom of the jug, turn it counter-clockwise all the way until it locks safely in place (aligning the markings on the drive coupling).
