Frequently Asked Questions - DR-MH30S JVC

What types of discs can I use to record on the JVC DR-MH30S?

You can record on DVD-RAM, DVD-RW (VR mode or Video mode), and DVD-R discs. The discs must be compatible with the standards indicated in the manual. CD-R/RW discs cannot be used for video recording.

How to program a recording with the SHOWVIEW system?

Press PROGRAM, enter the SHOWVIEW number using the numeric keys, then confirm. Make sure the guide numbers are correctly set (page 72). The device automatically sets the channel, date, and time.

What to do if the device does not record on the hard disk?

Check that the hard disk is not full (max capacity 160 GB). If the problem persists, try formatting the hard disk via the setup menu. Also make sure the recording mode (XP, SP, etc.) is correct.

How to copy recordings from the hard disk to a DVD?

Use the copying function (DUBBING). You can choose high-speed copying (if compatible) or simple/manual copying. Insert a compatible blank disc and follow the on-screen instructions.

Why is the image distorted on my TV?

Check the screen type setting in the VIDEO I/O menu (page 71). If using a component connection, make sure progressive scan mode is activated (press PROGRESSIVE SCAN). For a Scart connection, set L-1 OUTPUT to SCART RGB if your TV supports it.

Can I play MP3 or JPEG files on this device?

Yes, you can play MP3 and JPEG files on CD-R/RW/ROM or DVD-RAM/RW/R discs (for JPEG). Use MP3/JPEG navigation (page 57). Files must be in ISO9660 or Joliet format and finalized.

How to finalize a DVD-R disc so it is playable on other players?

Go to the setup menu, select 'Disc formatting' (DVD only), then 'Finalize disc'. Note: After finalization, you cannot record or edit on this disc.

What does the message 'REGION CODE ERROR' mean?

The device has region code '2'. DVD VIDEO discs must have region number '2' or 'ALL' to be playable. Check the disc's region on the label.

How to clean discs and the device?

For discs, use a soft, dry cloth from the center outward. Never use solvents. For the device, unplug it before cleaning and use a slightly damp cloth. Do not block the ventilation openings.

Timer recording does not start, what to check?

Check that the date and time are correct (page 75). Make sure the timer setting does not conflict with another recording (max 32 programs). Also check that the disc or hard disk has enough free space.
