UTOPIA
Utopia are the reference pair of headphones from Focal. As a world first, it features the only full range and fully open back loudspeaker, built within a pair of headphones, using pure Beryllium formed in the brand new «M» shape dome. The acoustic quality of this exclusive solution allowed Focal to avoid the use of any crossover or passive filtering process to achieve a frequency response from 5Hz to 50kHz! The listening experience is outstanding in terms of realism, natural sound reproduction, dynamics and clarity. When listening to them, the headphones virtually disappear and the audio signal is revealed with a level of precision never achieved until Utopia. Design is also a key point, be it in regards to the way of using the headphones, comfort, as well as the aesthetic. Arche is a unique audiophile solution. It combines a digital-analog converter with two pure class A amplification modes (voltage, hybrid), designed especially for headphones. Arche also offers presets for every set of Focal headphones to make sure you get the absolute best from this ultimate combination. Its dual mono ultra-high performance construction makes it possible to separate management of the left and right channels, from the powering stage. The two balanced digital-analog converters can process formats in PCM format, 384kHz, as well as DSD 256. The analog signal is then routed towards 2 pure class A amplification channels for an uncompromising solution. The original audio signal is thereby totally respected, so as to reproduce the tiniest details of the recording.

Câble Ultima
The principle of the Ultima cable is based on the Litz wire which is composed of multiple thin wire strands. The eight Litz wires are comprised of four copper wires and four silver-coated copper wires. Each wire contains 41 strands.

328 strands to ensure the integrity of the audio signal...
The cross-section of each strand measures 0.08mm, and the strands are individually enamelled to electrically isolate them from the rest. The interest in having strands with such an extremely small cross-section is to reduce the skin effect as much as possible. This skin effect results from the current's tendency to have a larger density near the surface of the cable. Thus, the very small cross-section helps to drastically reduce the cable's resistance in order to provide greater acoustic transparency.
The silver insulation on 50% of the Litz wires emphasises this crucial quality even more. In acoustics, silver has the advantage of being the metal with the highest electric conductivity.
Litz Wire
The 41 strands of the Ultima cable's eight Litz wires are individually enamelled to electrically isolate them from the rest. However, the proximity of the strands to one another tends to generate more resistance at high frequencies. The solution to this obstacle is in the way the Litz wire is designed and made. The 41 strands are braided together so that their position within the wire changes. This distributes the current evenly throughout each strand.
With this same goal in mind, the 8 Litz wires on the source side and the 4 Litz wires on the headphone side are also braided.
