8 Inch Compression Horns
MB QUART RZR Kick Panel pods
Thanks for choosing MB QUART. These 8 inch compression horn speaker components have been meticulously engineered to install into your Polaris RZR. They are part of our Staged RZR Tuned Audio Systems family of products. See all the components, upgrades and Stages available for RZR on the website MBQUART.com
We have made the install process so simple, you will be in and out of the machine in about an hour.
IMPORTANT – Before you mount the speakers into the pods and mount the pods to the RZR, you need to prepare the rear of the compression horn speakers. This entails removing the back plate from each speaker and covering the exposed compression horn diaphragm with the included cover.
The purpose of this process is to remove some of the depth of the speaker which in turn reduces the amount of space you sacrifice in the foot well – brilliant.

Preparing your Compression Horn Diaphragm
In order to fit your compression horn speakers into the pod, you need to remove the back plate. This keeps the mounting depth of the pod as shallow as possible. We designed the pods with a simple modification to the rear of the speaker.
We provide a protective plate because it is very important to the performance of your compression horns to cover the compression diaphragm element.
STEP 1
Working on a flat surface, turn your speaker face down

CHAPTER 1 – PREPARATION FOR INSTALLATION
Before you start dismantling your machine, we suggest you prepare all your components, enclosures and harnesses.
These steps will follow the CHAPTERS of the Installation Videos when completed. Additionally, it will make life less stressful to have everything ready when you are ready to put each component into the machine.
STEP 1 - CONFIRMING POWER TO BUS BAR
The Polaris RZR and our Tuned Audio System requires a harness that connects the battery under the seat to the busbar harness that is located under the hood.
The harness is shown in FIG 1-1. Check that your machine has this harness installed. If not, you can purchase from your dealer or Polaris online. The part numbers are 2881551 or 2881646 depending on which machine you own.

natural_image

PREPARATION
CHAPTER 2 – PREPARE YOUR KICK PANEL COMPRESSION HORNS
NOTE - Do not proceed with CHAPTER 3 until you have properly prepared the speakers with their compression diaphragm covers. Refer to the manual called MBQ-POD. You can also find this manual on-line by searching the model number.
Shown in FIG 2-1 is one picture from the MBQ-POD manual which will guide you step-by-step through preparing the kick panel compression horn speakers for installation into the kick panel enclosure and the RZR.

natural_image

NOTE – Removing grab bar and seats allows easier access when installing rear pods and prepping for the subwoofer as part of a STAGE 5 system. You can run those wires for future access or leave them secured in the front of the vehicles.
CHAPTER 4 – PREPARE VEHICLE FOR AMPLIFIER MOUNTING PLATE
NOTE - Before installing the amplifier plate with the amplifier in position, you must prepare the mounting area in the vehicle.
The following instructions show the installation of both the full range and mono/subwoofer amplifiers. In this installation, you are using only the full range amplifier. You can upgrade to the subwoofer system which will include a mono amplifier specifically designed to run the subwoofer.
STEP 1 - Loosen the 16mm nuts that secure the steering column to the support frame shown in FIG 4.1. These nuts are very hard to loosen. Be careful.
Do not remove these steering column nuts, only loosen to create an 1/8 inch gap between the nut and the frame shown in FIG 4-2. You will not retighten these nuts until the Chapter 18 section of the installation manual.

CHAPTER 6 - INSTALL POWER HARNESS AT BUSBAR
Before we position the system harness and wire everything up we need to prepare the power portion of the harness.
NOTE – For any audio system and in fact electrical accessory for RZR you must have a busbar installed. The busbar brings power from the battery up to the back side of the dash. See Chapter 1 for busbar details.
STEP 1 - You will start at the bus bar. Lay the Power, Ground and Accessory portion of the harness in the vehicle and you begin to run each of the connectors to the appropriate component. The harness will run through the grommet shown in FIG 6-1.

text_image

STEP 2 – Push the radio and amplifier connections through the grommet. Leave them accessible while you complete the connections at the busbar shown in FIG 9-2.

text_image
DO NOT USE PASSENGER SIDE GROMMET(FIG 6-3)
NOTE – In some vehicles there is an unused grommet near the passenger foot well shown in FIG 6-3. DO NOT use this due to the placement of the subwoofer enclosure. Use the grommet picture that has a wire look present shown in FIG 6-2.
STEP 3 – Complete the connection at the busbar as shown in FIG 6-4. Mount the audio harness first, with the OEM RZR connections on top. This allows you to use the red boot on the powerline, keeping your install clean and looking factory installed.

text_image
SECURE THE RED BOOT ON THE POWER WIRE(FIG 6-4)
Zip-tie this power portion of the harness into place. Assure that no added wiring is near any moving parts or components that generate large amounts of heat.
CHAPTER 7 – MOUNTING AMPLIFIERS & INSTALLATION
Mount your amplifier as pictures in FIG 7-1 on the dual amplifier plate.
NOTE - The following instructions show the installation of both the full range and mono/subwoofer amplifiers. In this installation, you are using only the full range amplifier.
When you upgrade and add the subwoofer system it will include a mono amplifier specifically designed to run the subwoofer.

When you upgrade to the rear pods, you will not need another amplifier, as this amplifier will run easily at 2 ohms, meaning all four speakers at the same time. That also doubles the effective power of the amplifier. More is better!
STEP 1 - With the amplifiers mounted to the plate, slide the Dual Amp Plate into position with the double groove portion of the bracket sliding between the steering column support shown in FIG 7-2 and the 16mm nuts and washers. Do not tighten down yet.

ILLUMINATION NOTE
For speakers that include illumination, there is a small red/black jumper wire and splitter that connects the rear speakers harness illumination wire to the left and right rear pod illumination.
You will make this connection in the same location as you are connecting the rear pods in the center console.
The connection location is the same for both the 2 and 4 seats RZR. Refer to the wiring diagram for proper placement. See wiring diagram in CHAPTER 14 for quick reference.
NOTE – Any excess wire that is gathered after the system is tested should be wire tied and secured under the seat. Do not allow any of the wire harness to touch heat generating or mechanical components of the machine.
CHAPTER 9 - MOUNTING THE KICK PANEL SPEAKERS
Through hundreds of installations, we have found it smartest to mount speakers and subwoofers in this order.
1) Driver kick panel
2) Subwoofer (If present at the time of installation)
3) Passenger side kick panel
STEP 1 - Using colored painters tape shown in FIG 9-1, you need to mark the fender of the RZR where you will need to drill. To do this, hold an empty left or right pod in your hand. Hold the pod into place to approximate the position of the mounting holes on the internal fender.

natural_image

STEP 3 - Remove any tape from the fenders. With the included hardware, mount the pod. The bolt and 1 washer mount through the fender into the pod. This leaves only the head of the bolt visible behind the tire shown in FIG 9-4.
NOTE - Make sure that the wires behind the enclosure have remained accessible for connecting to the harness. Use some painters tape to keep them from getting blocked by the enclosure.
STEP 4 – Push the included bolt through a washer then through the fender
This will come through the fender and into the kick panel speaker enclosure.

BOLTS & WASHERS(FIG 9-4)
STEP 5 - Using the 5/16 inch bolts, washers, and nuts, mount the enclosure shown in FIG 9-5.

text_image
NUTS & WASHERS(FIG 9-5)
Make sure you use a washer on the inside of the enclosure against the internal wall of the pod which you sandwich against the fender of the RZR. Use your 12 inch ratchet and wrench to secure the pod.
Use a small racket and an open box wrench for convenience.
Wire the speaker and illumination if present and use the supplied screws to mount the speaker to the enclosure.
STEP 6 – Identify the harness wires from inside of each pod and connect the wires to the back of the compression horn speakers.

Refer to the illustration that matches your amplifier. ① GAIN Adjustment The gain control purpose is to match the output of your source signal to the amplifier. Refer to the section B below for detained instructions. ② X-OVER Switch This switch will set the amplifier to have: a full frequency output or to filter out high or low frequencies. The NA1-400.2 offers either a bandpass or a high pass filter. ③ Frequencies Adjustment The Low Pass Filter will cut off the frequencies above the setting. The High Pass Filter will cut off the frequencies below the setting. ④ SUBSONIC Adjustment The Subsonic Filter will cut off the frequencies below the setting. If using with a subwoofer the settin should be kept between 15-25Hz. ⑤ BOOST Switch The Boost Switch will increase the signal 12dB at 4kHz. Be aware this setting can cover distribution if the gain is not set property.

B Level Setting This is a critical step to insure your amplifier is properly adjusted to match the signal output level of your source unit. GAIN MIN MAX THIS IS NOT A VOLUME CONTROL! 1. If possible, with the source unit off, confirm that the primary volume control is turned down (counter clockwise). 2. Turn on the source unit (CD, or MP3 player). Re-confirm that the volume is turned down. Make sure the source unit controls; balance, fader, bassa and table are all set to center or '0' adjustment. Make sure that the green LED on the end of the amplifier is illuminated. 3. Play a clean musical selection of which you are very familiar. CD is preferred. Do not use radio signals for level setting. Hit play and start turning the volume of the source unit up. 4. Stop increasing the source unit volume when you reach 3/4 (about 75%) or until you hear speakers begin to slightly start producing distortion. 5. Increase the amplifier gain (clockwise) until distortion is heard, then back the level down (counter clockwise) until the distortion is eliminated. Small adjustments may need to be made to balance the levels of multiple amplifiers.NOTE – Gain control, it is important to adjust each amplifier gain as described in the manual. Remember, these settings are NOT volume controls. Gain controls, properly adjusted help properly balance the system sound between lows, highs and minimize distortion that comes from the source unit.
UPGRADES – If you installed the STAGE 5, you are set. However, if you started with a STAGE 3 or STAGE 2, and are adding the subwoofer system or add rear pods, your amplifiers will need new settings.
Always check back to this guide to see if your amplifiers should be readjusted for the new components you have added.
Now, listen for a clear, crisp audio sound.
CHAPTER 11 - VEHICLE REASSEMBLY
Follow along the Dual Amplifier audio harness and zip tie the harness to the machine to assure it doesn't come loose during rides. Once your harness is secure, you can begin reassembling all the panels.
Here is a checklist so you do not forget anything – regardless of which system you installed:
