Frequently Asked Questions - FSB216 MB QUART

What tools are needed to install the FSB216 speakers?
Installation typically requires a screwdriver (Phillips or flathead), interior panel removal tools, wire strippers, and electrical tape or crimp connectors. Always disconnect the car battery before starting.
How do I determine if the FSB216 will fit my vehicle?
Measure the factory speaker cutout diameter (usually 5.5-6.5 inches) and mounting depth (min 2.5 inches). The FSB216 has an outer diameter of 6.91 inches and a mounting depth of 2.54 inches. Compare with your vehicle's specs.
What is the difference between coaxial and component speakers?
Coaxial speakers (like FSB216) have a tweeter mounted on the woofer for simplicity. Component systems have separate tweeters and woofers for better sound staging. The FSB216 is a drop-in coaxial replacement.
How should I wire the positive and negative terminals?
Match the positive (+) terminal of the speaker to the positive wire from your car (usually red or marked) and negative (-) to negative. Reversing polarity will cause phase cancellation and poor bass response.
Can I install the FSB216 in the rear deck?
Yes, the FSB216 can be installed in rear deck locations if the mounting depth and cutout size match. Ensure access from the trunk and secure wiring away from moving parts.
What is the recommended amplifier power for these speakers?
Amp output between 30-80 watts RMS per channel is ideal. The FSB216 handles up to 60 watts RMS. Overpowering can damage the speakers.
Do I need to use a crossover?
No, the FSB216 is a coaxial speaker with a built-in crossover. Just connect directly to the speaker wires.
How do I remove the factory door panel?
Use a trim removal tool to gently pry off the panel. Look for screws (often behind pull handles or armrests) and plastic clips. Work slowly to avoid breaking clips.
What if my speaker wires are too short?
Extend the wires using automotive-grade speaker wire (16-18 gauge). Solder or crimp the connections and insulate with heat shrink or electrical tape.
How important is the speaker grille?
The FSB216 does not include a grille. If installing in a location with exposure, use a protective grille to prevent damage from debris or accidental impact.

CAUTION

MB QUART FSB216 - CAUTION - 1

Always consider consulting a professional audio installer before installing new speakers. Many car manufacturers locate speakers behind interior panels that require special tools to remove those panels to access the speakers. Some panels will be screwed in, some will use plastic fasteners, many will have both. Be careful and take your time. If you are using the speaker wire supplied with your new speakers make sure that you run the speaker wires through the factory boot. Do not let speaker wire make contact with metal edges of doors or other access holes.

Before you start

It's a good idea to confirm that you have purchased the correct size speakers to fit your vehicle. If you have any reservations about being able to complete the installation yourself, we recommend contacting a professional. Factory Speaker Removal
MB QUART FSB216 - Before you start - 1

Access and remove factory door speakers

Most modern vehicles have speakers that are mounted directly to the structure of the door. Access is achieved by the removal of the door panel. Some vehicles may only require the removal of a small panel around the speaker itself.

Fit and Wiring

Once the factory speakers are removed, check the fit and determine if there is enough depth clearance for the new speaker. A good way to do this is to roll the window down and back up while holding the speaker in place. If you decide to run wires, make sure to use factory harness boots and grommets where ever possible.
