How do I access the on-screen menu (OSD)?

Press the Scroll Lock key five times in quick succession. The main menu will appear on the monitor connected to the Remote unit.

What is the maximum transmission distance for the UVX1-FL?

With a CAT 7 cable, up to 100 m (328 ft). With a multimode fiber cable, up to 300 m (984 ft). Longer distances possible with single-mode SFPs (optional).

How do I update the firmware?

Download the latest firmware from kvm-tec.com/support. Save to a USB stick, connect it to the Remote (CON) unit, press 'U' in the OSD, then press 'S' to display the file and 'U' to start the update.

Can I use a standard network switch for matrix switching?

Yes, but it must be a 10 Gigabit switch with 10 Gbps port-to-port transfer rate. A dedicated network is required; cannot be integrated into an existing company network.

Why is my keyboard not working after connection?

Ensure all USB cables are firmly connected. If using a USB mass storage device, check if the USB Save Feature is enabled (disables mass storage). Re-plug the keyboard and wait a few seconds for driver installation.

How do I set the DDC/EDID information?

Open the OSD and press O. Then press 1 to use the remote monitor's EDID, or 2 for 1920x1080, 3 for 2560x1440, or 4 for 3840x2160 fixed resolution.

Can I connect two monitors to the extender?

Yes, both Local and Remote units have two DisplayPort outputs. The built-in MST/HUB splitter allows two independent video streams up to 2x 2560x1440 @60Hz or 2x 3840x2160 @30Hz. Both graphics card and monitors must support DisplayPort 1.2.

What is the Multiview Commander feature?

It allows you to display and operate up to 4 PCs simultaneously on a single 4K monitor. Requires up to 4 Local units connected via a network switch. Can be activated in the OSD Features menu by pressing V.

How do I clean the extender?

Unplug all connections. Wipe the housing with a damp cloth. Do not use wipes, alcohols, or chemicals. Electrical/electronic parts must not be cleaned.

What does the LED status indicate?

Red: no connection; Orange: connection established but no video; Green: video and USB active (normal operation). Blinking patterns indicate initialization or update modes. See manual for full table.

2.1 UNPACKING AND CHECKING THE CONTENT

Before using the product for the first time it should be checked for damage. In case of damage due to transport inform the carrier immediately. Before delivery the product is checked for its function and its operating safety.

The rack mounting kit RMK-F is for assembling kvm-tec Ultraline UVX1 extenders. It consists of 19" rack tray and an alu-faceplate.

The units can be set up to access point to point or over a Switching System with a host computer.

In the case of the latter, an additional 10 G Network Switch and a Windows PC od tablet with the Switching Manager must be installed With a Network Switch, each user can gain quick access to any of the required computers.

2. EXTENDER INSTALLATION

Quick Installation ULTRALINE 4K

local / CPU - remote/ CON

1. Connect the CON / Remote and the CPU / Local Unit with the supplied IEC power cable. Optionally, you can also use a 12V > 2A power supply.
2. Now connect the USB cable to a USB port on your PC and connect the other end to the CPU / Local Unit. Connect keyboard and mouse to the CON / Remote Unit.
3. Connect the CPU / Local and the CON / Remote Unit with a network cable.
4. Connect the DP cable in the DP socket of the PC -in and to the DP socket DP / in of the local device and connect the screen on the remote side with the DP cable. Optionally, connect the DP cable from the Local DP / out to another monitor.
5. Then connect PC audio out with the audio cable to Local Audio in. Connect audio / out via the audio cable
6. Almost done! Now connect the audio cable Local Audio / out to the PC Audio in and Remote Audio / in with the audio cable to the microphone.

Please note that the recommended length of the display port cable should be max. 1.8m,5.9 ft otherwise interference-free 4K transmission may not be guaranteed.

Some Tvx require the HDMI UHD Clour mode to be switched on, otherwise picture interference will occur

2. EXTENDER INSTALLATION

2.4 START UP

To start up the system:

1. Make sure that the two monitors and the computer are switched on.
2. If you are using a Network Switch, connect the power cable to an earthed wall socket.
3. Connect both extender power cables (6 / 20) to an earthed wall socket. Switch on both units. Both extenders start an initialization process. The status LED blinks some seconds red and changes to green after a successful connection. The monitor will displays your computer's desktop or any open applications.

2.5 REPLACING THE SFP MODULE

The UVX1-F is delivered with a multimode SFP module.

To replace an SFP module with a different SFP+ module:

1. Remove the black dust protector from the SFP+ module.
2. Pull the metal latch of the SFP+ module forwards until it is at a right angle.
3. Replace the SFP+ module with the other module. Put the metal latch back in position. Only use SFP+ modules from kvm-tec, or recommended by kvm-tec.

1. Make sure that the extenders, monitors and computer are turned on
2. Press the Scroll Lock button fi ve times hintereinander. The main menu and the overview of the submenus are displayed.
3. To access a submenu, press the corresponding key or navigate with the arrow keys up and down to the corresponding line and then press Enter key.

3.1. SYSTEM STATUS

By pressing the „S“ key or by selecting the arrow keys, you access the status menu, where you will find information about hardware and software versions, as well as the activated upgrades The menu displays information about the connection, the resolution of the video channel and the USB status. The current Firmware version is displayed in the upper left corner.

The link status indicates whether a connection is possible.

1. The current version of the firmware can be downloaded at http://www.kvm-tec.com/support. Each update file contains a detailed description of the update process. For further information please refer to the update chapter
2. Connect the USB stick to the CON (REMOTE) unit (wait a few seconds until the USB stick is connected to the CON unit).
3. Open the update menu with the „U“ key.
4. Press „S“ to display this file
5. The firmware is displayed with „Configuration found“
6. Press „U“ to start the update on the Remote (CON) Unit

The upgrade is already activated and transmits sound in CD quality analog over 3.5mm sockets in both directions.

Furthermore, the embedded sound information of the display port is transmitted.

RS 232

A maximum serial transfer rate of 115200kBd possible

It is not necessary to set the baud rate and bits per character.

„R“ appears in the menu item and this function is permanently active.

Switching up to 2000 endpoints

The already activated Switching upgrade can be activated from the Switching menu (in the main menu).

By pressing „S“, you can access the switching menu and thus activate or de-activate the switching upgrade.

In the main menu you can configure the switching system with „S“.

3.4.1 DEFINING WHAT DDC DATA YOUR PC USES

In the DDC Information menu, the user can define which DDC information is used by the PC.

Definition of the DDC information used in the PC:

1. Make sure that the main menu is open (5 x scroll)
2. Press the O to display the DDC-option menu
3. Press 1 to display the DDC information of the monitor connected to the remote (CON)
4. The Extender is connected. The DDC information is automatically saved
5. Press 2 for a fix resolution 1920 x 1080
6. Press 3 for a fix resolution 2560 x 1440
7. Press 4 for a fix resolution 3840 x 2160

3.4.2 SELECT KEYBOARD LAYOUT

In the Keyboard Layout menu you can switch between the keyboard layouts with which you can navigate the on screen display menu (OSD).

Press the K button. The Keyboard Local menu opens:

Press E to select English (QWERTY).

Press D to select English (QWERTY).

Press F to select French (AZERTY).

Two features are already pre-installed, which can be set by pressing „F“ in the main menu. You can activate either the 4K Multiview Commander or the Mouse Glide& Switch.

4. EXTENDER FEATURES

4.1.2 MULTIVIEW COMMANDER

By pressing „V“ you activate the 4K Multiview Commander and therefore you can display and operate 4 PC screens on a 4K Moniotr simultaneously.

The 4K Multitview Commander requires up to 4 MX local (CPU) devices on the CPU side, which are connected to the UVX CON part via a network switch.

If Local Units are not displayed, they can be found by pressing the F key. Use the A key to activate/deactivate the Auto Connection function.

To change the Highlight Settings press the H key.

This key is used for the visual position display of the mouse in your setup.

By using the arrow keys you can select from the four monitors displayed to assign the desired position of the Local Units.

Use the Number buttons to select a Local Unit and press the C button to confirm. If you want to disconnect a local unit, use the D key.

To disconnect all connections press the E key.

4.1.3 SWITCHING IN MULTIVIEWCOMMANDER

With a multiview commander setup - multiple sources can be displayed on one or more monitors.

The displayed source can be selected as follows:

Move the mouse to the area where the source is to be displayed.

Then open the „Switching List“ with OSD, either by pressing the scroll key 5 times and then into the menu item „L“ or by shortcut (default is Ctrl+ALT+F12).

Then confirm the desired source with the Enter key. The selected source appears in the quadrant in which the mouse is located.

By pressing the „D“ key, the displayed source can be separated again. The menu can be closed with the ESC key.

4. EXTENDER FEATURES

4.1.4 MOUSE GLIDE & SWITCH

Multiple UVX Extenders can be configured to automatically switch the USB operation of any computer and follow the mouse movement.

Up to 8 monitors can be configured both vertically and horizontally.

Press „M“ to go to the configuration of the Mouse Glide & Switch function. The corresponding local parts are connected to the REM part via a 10 G network switch.

To change the existing layout press the T button.

If not all extenders are available, these can be found with the F key. Use the arrow keys to navigate to the screen symbols and assign a local unit with the L key and a number and a remote unit with the R key and a number. This must be confirmed with Enter.

With the key „I“ you can identify assigned extenders by starting the LED to blink when activated.

With „B“ you reach the border settings, in which you can set the visual position display of the mouse in your setup.

Use the C key to reset all settings.

Press the A key to apply all the settings you have made.

4.1.5 POINT TO POINT

By pressing „P“ you reach the configuration point to point. By default, the remote is directly connected to the Local.

4.1.6 MATRIX SWITCHING SYSTEM

Pressing „S“ takes you to the Matrix Switching System configuration.

If this function is active, the Multiview Commander and Mouse Glide functions are controlled via the Switching Manager software (see Switching Manager manual).

All functions of the Switching System can be managed via the Switching Manager Software.

4.1.7 USB SAVE FEATURE

Press „U“ to go to the USB SAVE FEATURE configuration.

With the activation, the intrusion of computer viruses can be prevented via USB-mass storage. Data from a connected USB mass storage device cannot be accessed.

4.1.8 DISPLAYPORT MULTISTREAM

By pressing „D“ you access the Displayport Multistream configuration and activate the Mustistream functionality

5.1 BUILT - IN MST HUB SPLITTER

The built-in MST/HUB splitter allows the transmission of two different image contents via one cable up to a max. resolution of 2 - times 2560 x 1440 @ 60 Hz or 2 - times 3840 x 2160 @ 30 Hz

The CPU (local) and the CON (remote) part has two video outputs with splitter / multistream function.

With a 4k resolution one screen content is transmitted which is available on both outputs at the same time. With a

9.1 REQUIREMENTS FOR CAT 7 CABLE

A Cat 7 cable should meet the following requirements:

• The pins are connected 1:1. Caution: the cable pairs must be twisted to EIA/TIA-568A (rare) or EIA/TIA-568 B (common) pairs.
• Erroneous assignments cannot be found with a simple cable tester.
• The pins for the green pair of wires are not adjacent to one other.
• The cable must at the very least meet the CAT 7 specifications and be suitable for 10 Gigabit transmission.
• The cable should meet one of the following standards: Class D ISO/IEC 11801:2002 or EN 50173-1:2002. Schema EIA/TIA-568 B.
