Frequently Asked Questions - LCS-8539TXR1 Longshine

What operating systems are supported by the Longshine LCS-8539TXR1?
It supports Windows 98/SE/ME/2000/XP, Windows NT, Novell NetWare, and Linux (RedHat, TurboLinux, FreeBSD). It also works with Windows for Workgroups and Windows 95 via NDIS drivers.
How do I install the driver for this adapter?
Insert the CardBus adapter into a PCMCIA Type II slot. Windows will detect new hardware. Select 'Specify a location' and browse to the driver folder on the CD (e.g., F:\Cardbus\LAN\WinME for Windows ME). Follow the on-screen instructions. For other OS, use corresponding folders like Win9.x for Windows 98/SE or Win2K for Windows 2000.
What does the red LED indicate?
The red LED (labeled 'F') indicates the connection speed: on at 100 Mbps and off at 10 Mbps. The green LED (labeled 'L') shows link status: off means no connection, and flashing indicates data activity.
Does the LCS-8539TXR1 support full-duplex operation?
Yes, it supports full-duplex operation on both 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps modes, effectively doubling the throughput. It also supports IEEE 802.3x flow control for full-duplex connections.
What is the maximum data transfer speed?
The maximum speed is 100 Mbps (100BASE-TX Fast Ethernet). It also supports 10 Mbps (10BASE-T) for compatibility with older networks.
Is the Longshine LCS-8539TXR1 compatible with Windows 10?
Officially, it supports up to Windows XP. For Windows 10, generic NDIS 5.0 drivers may work, but they are not officially provided. You can try installing the Windows XP driver in compatibility mode, but full functionality is not guaranteed.
Can I use this CardBus adapter in a desktop computer?
It is designed for laptops with a PCMCIA Type II CardBus slot. For desktop use, you would need a CardBus-to-PCI adapter or a docking station with a CardBus slot. It cannot be used in a standard PCI or USB slot without an adapter.
Does it support Wake on LAN?
Yes, it supports Wake on LAN (Magic Packet wake-up) and is compliant with ACPI and CardBus power management standards, allowing the system to wake from sleep when a network packet is received.
What is included in the package?
The package includes the 10/100 Fast Ethernet CardBus Adapter, a User Manual, and a Driver CD containing drivers for various operating systems.
My computer does not detect the adapter. What should I do?
First, ensure the CardBus slot is working. Try reinserting the adapter firmly. If still not detected, check that the CardBus controller is enabled in the BIOS. On Windows, go to Device Manager and look for unknown devices. You may need to manually install the driver from the CD. Also, try the adapter in another laptop to rule out hardware failure.
