3.1 Safety Instructions

  1. MARKING, SYMBOLS

  2. HAND SIGNALS

  3. FIX THE LINE TO THE TUBE

1. INTRODUCTION

This product can be used by persons with little or no experience of water sports. The tube is designed for ‘passive riding’, which means that the rider lies still and holds on to the tube, and does not perform any sudden movements. The person riding the tube has very little or no effect on the course of the tube.

The tube is intended for 1-2 persons, recommended max load 155 kg. This instruction manual must be studied prior to using the product. Save the instructions for future reference.

2. AREA OF USE

Weather and water conditions

Do not use the tube in strong winds or on rough, choppy water. Calm water = safe water. Choppy water = dangerous water.

Speed

The warranty is voided if the tube is towed faster than 30 km/h (16 knots). Use it as a safe speed, so that the tube can level-off in a suitable manner considering the age and physical ability of the user(s), the water conditions, the weight of the users and how sharply the tube takes the turns.

Risks

Keep the boat and tube at least 55 m from all risk objects such as beaches, rocks, docks, buoys and shallow water.

Look out for the "whiplash"

If the boat operator takes sharp turns (90–180 degrees) the tube will increase speed much faster than the speed of the boat. Making a "whip-action" is not recommended. Remember the riders' physical ability and the risk of personal injury, possibly with lethal consequences.

Unsafe exercises

Never wedge hands or feet under the cover or between the cover and the tube. Never try to jump from or preform tricks with the tube. Never start off riding from any surface other than the water.

Number of passengers

Do not exceed the recommended number of persons on the tube, max two persons. Exercise particular care when you have the maximum number of riders, or an uneven distribution of persons and load, as the tube's characteristics can be signifi cantly altered.

Quick coupling

Use of a quick release connection is mandatory for a single person riding on the tube. National or local regulations shall be particularly adhered to.

IMPORTANT!

The plastic valve cover can be deformed during operation. In order to reset it to its original shape just let it lie in direct sunshine for around 10-20 minutes. It will regain its original shape. Do not use any electrical apparatus or other heat sources.

Recommend towing line for the number of riders

1–2 persons (155 kg) = Line breaking strength 1077 kg. Diameter: 8 mm.

Flag displayed on the boat

The majority of watercourses require that a special fl ag is fl own from the boat ('skier down fl ag') when a rider is down (unseated) in the water. Check local regulations. This is an important rule to protect the rider. Recommended at all times for safety.

Top up with air

The tube is fitted with a valve with two screw caps. The upper wheel (square) is used when you have to fill air and the lower one (round) is used when you need to release air. Inside the valve there is a check valve which prevents the air from escaping when you are pumping the tube.

The correct amount of air is important for it to function in the best possible manner. Do not fully infl ate the tube with air. If the vinyl appears to be somewhat wrinkled does not necessarily mean it is under-infl ated. Infl ate it to around 95 % so there is volume remaining to accommodate the air inside being heated and expanded by solar radiation. DO NOT OVERPUMP! If you do so, you will invalidate the guarantee. In order to prevent serious damage to your tube, you should release a little air and relocate it to a shaded location when it is not in use.

Deflation

Unscrew the entire valve from the opening by using the lower, round screw wheel. The tube will deflate rapidly.

Maintenance

After use, you clean the tube by wiping it off or hosing it down. Do not use strong or abrasive cleaning agents. If water is not suffi cient, use soap or washing-up liquid. Store the dry and deflated tube in a cool, dry place. To avoid cracks forming, do not store in a very cold location.

3. SAFETY

Water Sports Code Of Responsibility

Be aware that there are hazardous moments involving water craft, water skis and other water sports such as tube riding on water. Common sense and personal attention can, however, help to reduce risks. Be aware of your own limitations and do not get into situations that you are not certain that you can manage.

In order to heighten your enjoyment of the sport, follow the "Water sports code of responsibility".

Remember to:

  1. Acquaint yourself with the applicable regulations, the risks that are allied with water sports and how the equipment is to be used in a correct manner.
  2. Acquaint yourself with the waters in which you are going to water ski or carry out other water sports. Do not operate in very shallow water, close to beaches, docks, pilings, swimmers or water craft.
  3. Ensure that in addition to the operator (commander/captain) there is always another person (observer) in the water craft, who keeps an eye on what is happening, and used pre-agreed hand signals to communicate with the commander/captain before starting off.
  4. Always use a life vest that is tested and approved in accordance with EN ISO 12402-5.
  5. Study the instruction manual and always inspect your own equipment prior to use.
  6. Water ski or use water sports equipment within your own limitations. Always do so in a controlled fashion and within your own limitations and abilities.
  7. Avoid CO2 poisoning! Never tow closer than 6 m behind a water craft in motion.
  8. Never operate a water craft, and never water ski or use water sports equipment under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  9. A jet-ski is NOT a recommended as a craft with which to tow the tube.

Water Sports Industry Association

Users/Passengers

  • Riding a tube can become physically tiring. You must therefore be aware of your own limitations and act accordingly - stop riding when you start to feel tired.
  • Ensure that the person operating the water craft is a responsible, experienced and sober person.
  • This equipment is not a personal life preserver.
  • Always use a life vest that is tested and approved in accordance with EN ISO 12402-5.
  • The person riding the tube shall be dressed in a wetsuit and clothing to protect against grazing.
  • If the tube is intended for more than 1 rider, all the riders must ensure they do not come into contact with each other.
  • Never attach anyone to the tube or the covering.
  • Never put your wrists or feet through the handles or towing materials.

  • Ensure that no body parts come into contact with the towing line, neither before nor during use.

  • Riders ought to keep hands and feet away from the water.
  • Always use a quick-release connection for a rider that is alone on a tube.
  • The tube ought only to be used by those who can swim.
  • If the tube tends to 'porpoise' below the water, the weight on the tube should be shifted aft.
  • This product should not be used by children without adult supervision.
  • Study the hand signals so that you can communicate with the persons in the boat, refer to chapter 5.

Skipper's responsibility

It is the boat operator's (skipper's) responsibility to instruct the users how to ride the tube, and to ensure that everyone uses a life vest. The riders shall be instructed as to how to help the tube to level off by shifting the weight. Warn them that it is irresponsible to act carelessly, and that careless acts are not allowed when they are being towed.

  • The operator of a water craft is responsible as the tube cannot be controlled by the user(s).
  • The operator of a water craft and the observer shall focus on safety and use common sense. Ensure that the passenger is ready before you start pulling the tube.
  • Keep a eye on the water surface to avoid fl oating debris or other fl otsam and jetsam that can cause a hazard. If possible, remove it from the water before setting off.
  • The operator of a water craft ought to avoid excessive speeds or tight turns which can lead to the tube overturning, which in turn can lead to the rider being seriously injured.
  • Never exceed 30 km/h when towing adults and 20 km/h on the tube.
  • Do not tow in very shallow water, close to beaches, docks, pilings, swimmers or water craft.
  • Use a towing line intended for towing an infl atable tube.
  • The towing line shall be at least 15 m long, and may not exceed 19 m.
  • Always check lines, handles and connections for any possible wear-and-tear, abrasions, sharp edges and fatigue prior to use. Discard any line or rope that shows any such traces, or if the line or rope starts to become warn.
  • Switch off the ignition when anyone is in the vicinity of the water craft's engine (propeller).

Observer

Each water craft ought to have an observer. This is a person onboard, who keeps the rider under constant observation, helps them with the towing line and simply keeps in mind the riders' needs and safety. An observer facilitates the operator's job of fully concentrating on operating the craft.

The observer makes the skipper aware when the rider(s) fall off the tube, advises when the tube needs to change speed, forward previously-agreed hand signals from the rider(s), and make the operator aware of all possible hazards through risks posed by other craft. Hand signals, refer to chapter 5.
