Frequently Asked Questions - VCF 10186 - L VESTFROST

How do I adjust the temperature in my Vestfrost VCF 10186 - L fridge?
The temperature is controlled by a dial inside the fridge, usually on the upper right wall. Turn the dial to a higher number for colder. We recommend setting it to medium (3) for normal use.
How can I clean the refrigerator?
Unplug the fridge and remove all food and shelves. Use a mild detergent and warm water to wipe interior and exterior. Avoid abrasive cleaners. Rinse and dry thoroughly before plugging back in.
Why is my fridge making noise?
Some noise is normal: compressor hum, refrigerant flow (gurgling), or defrost timer clicks. If the noise is loud or unusual, check if the fridge is level and not touching walls or cabinets. Also ensure the condenser coil is clean.
How do I reverse the door opening direction?
The door is reversible. You will need a screwdriver. Refer to the manual for step-by-step instructions. Typically, you unscrew the hinges, remove the door, move hinge brackets to the opposite side, and reattach the door. Keep handles and screws organized.
What is the annual energy consumption?
The approximate annual energy consumption is 120 kWh, based on standard testing conditions. Actual consumption may vary depending on usage and environment. This model is rated A+ for energy efficiency.
How do I defrost the refrigerator?
This model requires manual defrosting for the fridge section. When ice builds up (more than 5 mm), unplug the fridge, remove food, and leave the door open. Place towels to catch water. Do not use sharp objects to remove ice.
What should I do if the fridge is not cooling?
Check if the thermostat is set correctly and the door is fully closed. Ensure the condenser coil at the back is free of dust. If still not cooling, the compressor may have a fault. Contact a qualified technician or Vestfrost support.
What is the warranty period?
Vestfrost typically offers a 2-year warranty for domestic use. Check your purchase documents for exact terms. The warranty covers manufacturing defects, but not damage from misuse, natural wear, or unauthorized repairs.
Can I adjust the humidity in the crisper drawer?
Yes, the crisper drawer has a humidity slider. Slide to high for leafy greens (to retain moisture) or low for fruits that need less humidity. This helps keep produce fresh longer.
How do I access the user manual?
The manual is available for free download on notice-facile.com in PDF format. You can also request a translated version by selecting your language and providing your email on the manual page.

- Defrosting occurs fully automatically in fridge compartment during operation; the defrosted water collected by the evaporating tray and evaporates automatically.

- The evaporating tray and water drain hole (back of the refrigerator crisper shelf) should be cleaned periodically to prevent the water from collecting on the bottom of the fridge instead of flowing out.

Defrosting the freezer compartment

- The frost, which covers the shelves of the freezer compartment, should be removed periodically.

- Do not use sharp metal objects for this operation. They could puncture the refrigerant circuit and cause irreparable damage to the unit. Use the plastic scraper provided.

- When there is more than 5 mm of frost on the shelves, defrosting must be carried out.

- Before defrosting, place the frozen food in a cool place after wrapping it in sheets of newspaper (this will help the food to maintain it's tempertaure for longer).

• To accelerate the defrosting process, place one or more bowls of warm water in the freezer compartment.

- Dry the inside of the compartment with a sponge or a clean cloth.

- Once the unit has been defrosted, place the food into freezer and remember to consume it in a short period of time.

If your refrigerator has LED lighting contact the help desk as this should be changed by authorized personnel only.

ARRANGING FOOD IN THE APPLIANCE

Refrigerator compartment

  • To reduce humidity and avoid the consequent formation of frost, always store liquids in sealed containers in the refrigerator. Frost tends to concentrate in the coldest parts of the evaporating liquid and, in time, your appliance will require more frequent defrosting.
  • Never place warm food in the refrigerator. Warm food should be allowed to cool at room temperature and should be arranged to ensure adequate air circulation in the refrigerator compartment.
  • Make sure no items are in direct contact with the rear wall of the appliance as frost will develop and packaging will stick to it. Do not open the refrigerator door frequently.
  • We recommend that meat and clean fish are loosely wrapped and stored on the glass shelf just above the vegetable bin where the air is cooler, as this provides the best storage conditions.
  • Store loose fruit and vegetable items in the crisper containers.
  • Store loose fruit and vegetables in the crisper.
  • Storing fruit and vegetables separately helps prevent ethylene-sensitive vegetables (green leaves, broccoli, carrot, etc.) being affected by ethylene-releaser fruits (banana, peach, apricot, fig etc.).
  • Do not put wet vegetables into the refrigerator.
  • Storage time for all food products depends on the initial quality of the food and an uninterrupted refrigeration cycle before refrigerator storage.
  • To avoid cross-contamination do not store meat products with fruit and vegetables. Water leaking from meat may contaminate other products in the refrigerator. You should package meat products and clean any leakages on the shelves.
  • Do not put food in front of the air flow passage.
  • Consume packaged foods before the recommended expiry date.

VESTFROST VCF 10186 - L - Refrigerator compartment - 1

NOTE: Potatoes, onions and garlic should not be stored in the refrigerator.

  • For normal working conditions, it will be sufficient to adjust the temperature setting of your refrigerator to +4^ .
  • The temperature of the fridge compartment should be in the range of 0-8 °C, fresh foods below 0 °C are iced and rotted, bacterial load increases above 8 °C, and spoils.
  • Do not put hot food in the refrigerator immediately, wait for the temperature to pass outside. Hot foods increase the degree of your refrigerator and cause food poisoning and unnecessary spoiling of the food.
  • Meat, fish, etc. should be store in the chiller compartment of the food, and the vegetable compartment is preferred for vegetables. (if available)
  • To prevent cross contamination, meat products and fruit vegetables are not stored together.
  • Foods should be placed in the refrigerator in closed containers or covered to prevent moisture and odors.

The table below is a quick guide to show you the most efficient way to store the major food groups in your refrigerator compartment.

Food Maximumstorage time How and where to store
Vegetables and fruits 1 weekweek Vegetable bin
Meat and fish 2 - 3 DaysWrap in plastic foil, bags, or in a meat container and store on the glass shelf
Fresh cheese 3 - 4 Days On the designated door shelf
Butter and margarine 1 weekweek On the designated door shelf
Bottled products e.g. milk and yoghurtUntil the expiry date recommended by the producerOn the designated door shelf
Eggs 1 month On the designated egg shelf
Cooked food 2 Days All shelves

Freezer compartment

- The freezer is used for storing frozen food, freezing fresh food, and making ice cubes.

- To use the maximum capacity of the freezer compartment, use the glass shelves for the upper and middle section, and use the lower basket for the bottom section.

- Use the fast freezing shelf to freeze home cooking (and any other food which needs to be frozen quickly) more quickly because of the freezing shelf's greater freezing power. Fast freezing shelf is the bottom drawer of the freezer compartment.

- For freezing fresh food; wrap and seal fresh food properly, that is the packaging should be air tight and shouldn't leak. Special freezer bags, aluminum foil polythene bags and plastic containers are ideal.

- Do not store fresh food next to frozen food as it can thaw the frozen food.

- Before freezing fresh food, divide it into portions that can be consumed in one sitting.

- Consume thawed frozen food within a short period of time after defrosting

- Never place warm food in the freezer compartment as it will thaw the frozen food.

- Always follow the manufacturer's instructions on food packaging when storing frozen food. If no information is provided food, should not be stored for more than 3 months from the date of purchase.

- When purchasing frozen food, make sure that it has been stored under appropriate conditions and that the packaging is not damaged.

- Frozen food should be transported in appropriate containers and placed in the freezer as soon as possible.

- Do not purchase frozen food if the packaging shows signs of humidity and abnormal swelling. It is probable that it has been stored at an unsuitable temperature and that the contents have deteriorated.

- The storage life of frozen food depends on the room temperature, the thermostat setting, how often the door is opened, the type of food, and the length of time required to transport the product from the shop to your home. Always follow the instructions printed on the packaging and never exceed the maximum storage life indicated.

- The maximum amount of fresh food (in kg) that can be frozen in 24 hours is indicated on the appliance label.

NOTE: If you attempt to open the freezer door immediately after closing it, you will find that it will not open easily. This is normal. Once equilibrium has been reached, the door will open easily.

Important note:

  • Never refreeze thawed frozen food.
  • The taste of some spices found in cooked dishes (anise, basilica, watercress, vinegar, assorted spices, ginger, garlic, onion, mustard, thyme, marjoram, black pepper, etc.) changes and they assume a strong taste when they are stored for a long period of time. Therefore, add small amounts of spices to food to be frozen, or the desired spice should be added after the food has thawed.
  • The storage time of food is dependent on the type of oil used. Suitable oils are margarine, calf fat, olive oil and butter. Unsuitable oils are peanut oil and pig fat.
  • Food in liquid form should be frozen in plastic cups and other food should be frozen in plastic folios or bags.

TRANSPORTATION AND CHANGING OF INSTALLATION POSITION

Transportation and changing of installation position

- The original packages and foamed polystyrene (PS) can be retained if required. - During transportation, the appliance should be secured with a wide string or a strong rope. The instructions written on the corrugated box must be followed while transporting.

- Before transporting or changing the installation position, all the moving objects (ie, shelves, crisper...) should be taken out or fixed with bands in order to prevent them from getting damaged.

Carry your fridge-/freezer in the upright position.

Repositioning the door

  • It is not possible to change the opening direction of your fridge-/freezer door, if the door handle on your fridge-/freezer is installed from the front surface of the door.
  • It is possible to change the opening direction of the door on models without any handles or with handles on the side of the door.
  • If the door opening direction of your fridge-/freezer may be changed, you should contact the nearest Authorised Service Agent to have the opening direction changed.

BEFORE CALLING YOUR AFTER SALES SERVICE

If your fridge-/freezer is not working properly, it may be a minor problem, therefore to save time and money, check the following, before calling an electrician.

What to do if your appliance does not operate

Check that:

  • There is no power,
  • The general switch in your home is disconnected,
  • The thermostat setting is on the «•» position,
  • The socket is not faulty. To check this, plug the appliance in to another socket which you know is working.

What to do if your appliance performs poorly

Check that:

  • You have overloaded the appliance,
  • The thermostat setting is on position "1" (if so set the thermostat dial to a suitable value).
    • The doors are closed properly,
    • There is no dust on the condenser,
  • There is enough space at the rear and side walls.

If your fridge-/freezer is operating too loudly

Normal Noises

Cracking (Ice cracking) Noise: (For no frost/frost free appliances)

During automatic defrosting.

When the appliance is cooled or warmed (due to expansion of appliance material).

Short cracking: Heard when the thermostat switches the compressor on/off.-

Compressor noise

  • Normal motor noise: This noise means that the compressor operates normally
  • The compressor may cause more noise for a short time when it is first activated.

Bubbling noise and splash:

- This noise is caused by the flow of the fridge freezer in the tubes of the system.

If your fridge-/freezer is operating too loudly

To maintain the set cooling level, compressor may be activated from time to time. Noises from your fridge-/freezer at this time are normal and due to its function. When the required cooling level is reached, noises will be decreased automatically.

If the noises persist;

  • Is your appliance stable? Are the legs adjusted?
    • Is there anything behind your fridge-/freezer?
  • Are the shelves or dishes on the shelves vibrating? Re-place the shelves and/or dishes

if this is the case.

- Are the items placed on your fridge-/freezer vibrating?

If you hear any other noises check that:

  • The appliance is level
  • Nothing is touching the rear of the appliance
  • The objects on the appliance are vibrating.

Water flow noise: (For NoFrost/frost free appliances) Normal flow noise of water flowing to the evaporation container during defrosting. This noise can be heard during defrosting.

Air Blow Noise: If the appliance has fan in freezer/cooler /bottom cabinet compartments.

This noise can be heard in fridges during normal operation of the system due to the circulation of air.

If there is water in the lower part of the fridge-/freezer,

Check that:

The drain hole for the water is not clogged (use the defrost drain plug to clean the drain hole).

Recommendations

  • If you do not intend to use the appliance for long time (for example during the summer holidays) unplug and clean the appliance and leave the door open to prevent the formation of mold and smells.
  • To stop the appliance completely, unplug it from the main socket (for cleaning and when the doors are left open).
  • If a problem persists after you have followed all the instructions above, please consult the nearest Authorised Service Centre.

Tips for saving energy

  1. Install the appliance in a cool, well ventilated room, but not in direct sunlight and not near a heat source (radiator, cooker.. etc). Otherwise use an insulating plate.
  2. Allow warm food and drinks to cool down outside the appliance.
  3. When thawing frozen food, place it in the refrigerator compartment. The low temperature of the frozen food will help to cool the refrigerator compartment when it is thawing. This will help to save energy. If the frozen food is put out, it results in a waste of energy.
  4. Cover drinks or other liquids when placing them in the appliance Otherwise humidity increases in the appliance. Therefore, the working time gets longer. Also covering drinks and other liquids helps to preserve smell and taste.
  5. Try to avoid keeping the doors open for long periods or opening the doors too frequently as warm air will enter the cabinet and cause the compressor to switch on unnecessarily often.
  6. Keep the covers of the different temperature compartments (crisper, chiller ...etc) closed
  7. Door gasket must be clean and pliable. Replace gaskets if worn.
  8. Energy consumption is declared with maximum load and using only freezer bottom glass shelf.
