Q: Should the speaker be set to On or Off to charge it?

The GEAR4 STREETPARTY works either on AAA batteries (not included) or on mains power with a 5V/1A adapter . When using the mains adapter, the speaker automatically charges your connected iPhone/iPod via the dock. The position of the on/off button has no effect on the charging capability - the device charges regardless of this position. Note that the speaker goes into standby mode after 5 minutes of inactivity to save energy when operating on batteries.
