GETTING STARTED

Power supply for the unit

  1. Carry out the connections for the unit as shown in CONNECTIONS.
  2. Insert 2 AAA batteries (supplied) into the battery compartment in the remote control, taking care to follow the correct polarities.
  3. Connect the power cord to an AC mains outlet. Press the POWER button to turn on the unit.
  4. Turn on the TV and set to the correct video-in source.
  5. To go to standby mode, press the ⏻STANDBY button on the remote control. If the unit is not to be used for a long time, please disconnect the power cord.

Notes:

• The effective distance for remote control operation is about 5 meters.
- Replace the batteries when the remote control operating distance starts to reduce.
- If the remote control is not to be used for a long time, remove the batteries to avoid damage caused by battery leakage.

Precautions when using batteries

  1. Use only the size and type of batteries specified
  2. Ensure that you follow the correct polarities marked in the battery compartment when installing the batteries. Reversed batteries may damage the remote control.
  3. Exhausted batteries must be removed to prevent possible battery leakage.

  4. Dispose of batteries properly according to environmental regulations.

Inserting a disc

  1. Press the ▲ OPEN/CLOSE button on the remote or the button on the front panel to open the disc tray.

  1. Insert a disc, press the ▲ OPEN/CLOSE button on the front panel or the button on the remote control to close the disc tray. The unit will read the disc and start to play it, or it will display a start menu.

Inserting a USB device

Insert a USB device into the unit. In stop mode or when there is no disc, press the USB button on the remote control and use the ▲/▼ buttons to select the source: DISC or USB. Press the ENTER button to confirm.

BASIC SETUP

Setup Menu

The Setup menu allows you to configure the language, video, audio and general settings of the player. Press the SETUP button to access the setup menu.

Use the ▲▼◀ and ▶arrow buttons to adjust the setting. Press the ENTER button to confirm the setting.

Language menu

The language menu allows you to select the languages for the OSD, DVD menu, subtitles and audio.

The following options are available:

To select the on-screen display language.

Subtitle

To select the subtitle language.

Audio

To select the audio language.

To select the disc menu language.

Video menu

The video menu allows you to setup the display and video output options. You can set up the following options:

Aspect Ratio

Choose the aspect ratio 4:3 or 16:9.

4:3PS - Select this format to display 4:3 images without distorting the picture. In this case, black bands

will appear on left and right of the screen.

4:3LB – Select this format when the unit is connected to a 4:3 TV. Wide-screen images are shown on the screen with black bands on the top and bottom.

16:9 – Select this format to play wide-screen videos in full-screen mode.

View mode

Select one of the following display modes: Fill, Original, Auto Fit, Pan scan.

Fill – Select for playing wide-screen videos on a wide screen

Original – Select original to display the pictures or videos in their original resolution. Black bands

may appear at the right, left, top and bottom of the screen

Auto Fit – Select this mode to display wide-screen videos on a conventional screen. Black bands will appear at the top and bottom of the screen.

Pan Scan - When a wide-screen video is played, this mode clips the right and left sides of the image so that it can be viewed on a normal screen.

TV System

You can select one of the following systems: PAL, NTSC and AUTO. Select the system that matches your TV.

Video Out

Select one of the following video output sources: S-VIDEO, Component YUV (YCbCr), P-Scan (YPbPr) or RGB.

Audio menu

Digital Output

OFF – Select this option when no digital output is used.

PCM - Dolby Digital and MPEG 2 multi-channel signals are converted to PCM (Pulse Code Modulation). This setting is suitable for amplifiers or receivers without digital multi-channel sound decoders.

RAW - Dolby Digital signals are unaltered. Generally, this setting is used with a digital 5.1 channel receiver.

Night Mode

Off - Disable the function. On - Select this when using the unit at night.

Down Sampling

On – Select this option if your connected system is not able to support the sampling frequency of 96 kHz so that the unit can convert it to 48 kHz.

Off - Select this to disable the down sampling function.

RATING menu

The Rating menu allows you adjust the Parental Control options.

Set Password

You can change the password to prevent children from accessing the Parental Control settings. Select Set Password, press ENTER and input the default password "8888". Then press ENTER again to input the new password. Press ENTER to confirm the new password.

Select the rating

Select Parental Control, press ENTER and input the password. Press ENTER again to confirm and then press ENTER again to switch to the rating level selection mode. Select a level and press ENTER to confirm.

If you forget the password, you can always use the default password "8888".

Misc menu

Use default setting

The Default Setting resets the personal settings saved in the DVD setup menu to the factory default.

Screen saver

Off - Disable the function. On - Enable the screen saver function.

PLAYING DVD / CD / VCD DISCS

1. ≡ (Open / Close)

- Press to open the disc tray.

Note: Load the disc on the disc tray with disc label facing upwards.

- Press this button again to close the disc tray. The unit will start playback automatically.

- Press to start playback. Press this button again to pause playback.

3. II▶ STEP (Frame-by-Frame Advance)

The image can be advanced frame-by-frame.
- For DVD / VCD playback, press ▶ STEP to advance frame-by-frame in STEP mode. Press ▶ PLAY/PAUSE to resume normal playback.

4. SLOW

Press the SLOW button to start forward/backward slow motion play in the following sequence: 1/2, 1/4, 1/6, 1/8. Press the ▶I PLAY/PAUSE button to resume normal playback.

Note: Slow motion is not applicable to CD playback.

Press the ←/ buttons to perform a fast forward or backward search. Press the ENTER button to resume normal playback. Each time these buttons are pressed, the playback speed will be adjusted in the following sequence: x2, x4, x8, x16. Press the PLAY/PAUSE button to resume normal playback.

6. (Skip Forward/Backward)

When a disc is playing, you can skip backward/forward to the next track or chapter.
- Press the ◀ button to skip to the beginning of the previous chapter or track.
- Press the ➤ button to skip to the beginning of the next chapter or track.
For audio CD discs, use the number buttons (0 - 9 on the remote control only) to directly jump to a track number.

7. ■ (Stop)

  • Press ■ once to stop the current playback instantly and enter the Resume Play mode. Press ▶ PLAY/PAUSE to resume playback from the point where the disc was stopped.
  • Press ■ twice to stop playback completely. It is now impossible to resume playback from the place where playback was stopped. Press ▶ PLAY/PAUSE again to start playback from the beginning of the disc.

8. MENU

- Press to display the disc menu.

Notes:

This button has no function during playback of an audio CD or VCD.

9. TITLE

- Press to display the DVD title menu (the availability of this function depends on the disc).

10. ZOOM

The picture size can be magnified during playback.

  • When a disc is playing, press the ZOOM button. Each time the ZOOM button is pressed, the ZOOM settings will be changed as follows:
    Q1-->Q2-->Q3-->QOFF
  • While an image is magnified, use the ▲, ▼, ◀ and ► keys to pan the image for viewing.
  • To return to the normal view, press the ZOOM key until the message QOFF is shown. The screen will return to normal.

11. ANGLE

ANGLE (change the viewing angle on a DVD)

Different viewing angles can be selected when playing a DVD video disc that contains scenes recorded from multiple angles.

- Press ANGLE repeatedly to select different viewing angles if available on the disc.

12. AUDIO (select the audio languages available on the disc)

During DVD playback, different audio languages can be selected.
- When a disc is playing, press AUDIO to show the current audio language.
- Press repeatedly to select the desired audio language.
Note:
- For VCD playback, the audio output (Left, Right, Mix, Stereo) can be selected using the L/R button.
- There will be no sound output when DTS audio format is selected if a DTS disc is playing.

13. SUBTITLE (To select one of the subtitle languages available on the disc)

During playback, you can change the subtitle language or disable the subtitles function.
- While a disc is playing, press SUBTITLE to show the current subtitle playback language.
- Press repeatedly to select the desired subtitle language.

Notes:

  • This function can only be used for discs on which different subtitle languages have been recorded.
    • The number of languages recorded may be different depending on the disc.

ADVANCED PLAYBACK FUNCTIONS

1. DISPLAY function

While the disc is playing, press DISPLAY to display playback information available, depending on the disc.

2. GOTO function

This function allows you to select any point on the disc and to start playback from this point.

Selecting a Specific title/chapter/time for DVD or track/time for CD/VCD

You can select any specific title/chapter/track/time and start playback from this point by directly selecting it.

  • Press GOTO.
  • Press ▲ or ▼ to highlight the title / chapter /track/ time field and press the corresponding number key 0 - 9.
  • Press ENTER to confirm. The unit will then start playback from the selected position.

Note:

  • Press CLEAR to cancel a selection.
    • Some discs may not allow use of this function.
    • Some scenes may not be located as precisely as specified.
  • This method for accessing a specific location is available only within the current title of the DVD disc or current track of the CD.
  • For VCDs, this function only works if PBC is off.
  • Press CLEAR to delete any mistakes.

3.Programming playback

The contents of the disc can be played in a selected order.
- Press the PROG button.

Note: During VCD/SVCD playback, this function is only available when PBC is OFF.

3.1 DVD Programming

  • Use the ◀,▶,▲ or ▼ button to highlight the title field and press the number button to enter. Use the ▶ button to highlight the chapter field and press the number button to enter.
  • Repeat the above step for the next titles/chapters.
  • Highlight ▶PLAY on the screen and press ENTER to start the programmed playback.

3.2 CD/VCD/SVCD Programming

• Refer to the previous section to program the tracks of your choice.

3.3 Clear the Programs

- Highlight the program and press the CLEAR button to delete the contents of the program one by one.

Note

- Highlight CLEAR Program on the PROG screen and press ENTER to delete all programs.

4. Repeat playback

A specific title, chapter or track can be played repeatedly.

Note: During VCD / SVCD playback, repeat playback is only available when PBC is OFF.

4.1 Repeating a Title/Chapter/Track/All disc

- Press the REPEAT button

For DVDs: Off > Repeat Chapter > Repeat Title

4.2 Repeating a Specific Section

A-B repeat playback allows a specific section to be repeated.

- While the disc is playing, press the A-B button to set the beginning of the section (point A) to be

played repeatedly.

- Press the A-B button again to set the end of the section (point B) to be played repeatedly.

- The unit will then immediately begin replaying the selection (A to B) repeatedly.

- Press the A-B button again to clear the programmed repeat playback and return to normal playback.

Note

- The A-B repeat function can only be used within the same title or track. If points A and B are defined in different titles or tracks, A-B repeat is cancelled.

5.VCD/SVCD playback control

While a VCD / SVCD is playing, press PBC repeatedly to switch PBC (Playback Control) on or off.

- If PBC OFF is selected, use the ◀◀◀▶ buttons or the number keys (0-9) to select an option.

PLAYING MP3 / JPEG / WMA / MPEG 4 FILES

1. ▶II (PLAY/PAUSE)

- Press to start playback. Press it again to pause playback.

  1. (Skip)

- Press to skip to the next/previous track or picture.

3. ■ (Stop)

- Press to stop playback and display the selection menu (JPEG and movie files).

Note: Press ▶I PLAY/PAUSE to play from the beginning.

  1. ZOOM

- Press to zoom into the picture when playing JPEG or MPEG4 files.

  1. Flipping and rotating a still picture (JPEG)

- Press the navigation keys(▲,▼,◀,▶) to rotate a still picture.

Selection Menu

Program:

  1. Press STOP to display the Filter menu.

  2. Press ▶, ▲ or ▼ to select Edit Mode and press the

ENTER button.

  1. Then press ◀ to select the file you want and press

ENTER

  1. Press ▶ to select Add to Program, and press ENTER

then ▲ to select Program View and press ENTER.

  1. Then press ◀ to select the file of your choice and press ENTER, then press ▶ to play the file.

Cancel program:

  1. Press STOP twice, and press ▶ to select Edit mode.
  2. Press ◀ and ENTER to select music you'd like to cancel and ENTER to confirm your operation.
  3. Press ▶ to select Clear program, and press ENTER to cancel the program.
  4. Press ▲ to select Browse view and return to play in order.
    Note: Selection menu is also available for CD

[MUSIC] -- MP3 / WMA files

The unit will play the MP3 / WMA file currently selected. It will then play all the files in the sub-folders contained within the current folder. After that, the unit will play the remaining folders on the disc.

[PICTURE] -- JPEG files

Press ▶IPLAY/PAUSE, and the unit will start the slideshow from the JPEG file currently selected. Then you can zoom in on or rotate the displayed pictures. You can also select a folder and display all the files in that folder. Select the folder of your choice and press the ▶IPLAY/PAUSE button. To select a different refresh mode, press the ANGLE button repeatedly.

[MOVIE] -- MPEG 4 files

The unit will read the file currently selected.

AUDIO CD RIPPING (ENCODING IN MP3 FORMAT)

With this player, you can convert your audio CDs to MP3 format and save the files on a USB device.

During CD music playback, use the ▲,▼,◄ or ► buttons to choose 'Ripping' and then press ENTER to enter the Ripping menu. Insert a USB device.

Destination: Select the USB device as the source of storage.

Select all: Select all the files.

Note: You can select any desired files using the ▲,▼,◀ or ▶ buttons and press the ENTER button to confirm.

Unselect all: Unselect all the files.

Rip quality: Select the ripping quality: Normal, High, Best.

Ripping start: Start ripping. During ripping, you can select CANCEL to stop.

TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE

If it appears that the unit is faulty, first consult this checklist. It may be that something simple has been overlooked.

Note: Under no circumstances should you try to repair the unit yourself as this will void the warranty. Only qualified service personnel should remove the cover or service this unit.

NO POWER

- Check that the player is switched on.

- Check if the power cord is properly connected.

NO PICTURE

  • Check if the TV is switched on.
  • Check if the correct AV input is selected on the TV (refer to the TV manual for more details).
  • Check the video connection between the player and TV.

BAD QUALITY PICTURE

  • Check the disc for fingerprints and clean with soft cloth, wiping from the center to the edge.
  • A small amount of picture distortion may sometimes appear—this is not a malfunction.
  • Check if the disc format is compatible with the TV (PAL/NTSC).

BLACK AND WHITE PICTURE

  • Check if the disc format is compatible with the TV (PAL/NTSC).
  • Check that the DVD player is not connected through the VCR.

PICTURE INTERFERENCE

- Relocate the unit further away from possible sources of interference or emission (e.g. radio, power amplifier, radiator etc.).

THE PLAYER DOES NOT RESPOND TO THE

REMOTE CONTROL

  • Aim the remote control directly at the sensor on the front of the player.
  • Avoid all obstacles which may interfere with the transmission path.
  • Inspect and/or replace the batteries.

NO SOUND

  • Check audio connections.
  • If using a Hi-Fi amplifier, try another sound source.
  • Clean the disc.
  • Check if the disc is defective by trying another disc,

NO AUDIO FROM DIGITAL OUTPUT

- Check the digital connections.

  • Check the audio setup menu to make sure that the digital output is correctly set.
  • Check if the audio format selected is compatible with the player.

DISC CANNOT BE PLAYED

- Ensure disc is placed properly into the disc tray. IMPROPER FUNCTIONING

- The normal function of the product may be disturbed by external interference. Just reset the product by disconnecting and reconnecting the power cord.
