The mains lead of this product is fitted with a non-rewireable (moulded) plug incorporating a 13A fuse. Should the fuse need to be replaced, a BSI or ASTA approved BS 1362 fuse marked 🌐 or ◎ and of the same rating as above, which is also indicated on the pin face of the plug, must be used.
Always refit the fuse cover after replacing the fuse. Never use the plug without the fuse cover fitted. In the unlikely event of the socket outlet in your home not being compatible with the plug supplied, cut off the mains plug and fit an appropriate type.
DANGER:
The fuse from the cut-off plug should be removed and the cut-off plug destroyed immediately and disposed of in a safe manner.
Under no circumstances should the cut-off plug be inserted elsewhere into a 13A socket outlet, as a serious electric shock may occur.
To fit an appropriate plug to the mains lead, follow the instructions below:
IMPORTANT:
The wires in the mains lead are coloured in accordance with the following code:
Blue: Neutral
Brown: Live
As the colours of the wires in the mains lead of this product may not correspond with the coloured markings identifying the terminals in your plug, proceed as follows:
• The wire which is coloured blue must be connected to the plug terminal which is marked N or coloured black.
- The wire which is coloured brown must be connected to the plug terminal which is marked L or coloured red.
Ensure that neither the brown nor the blue wire is connected to the earth terminal in your three-pin plug.
Before replacing the plug cover make sure that:
- If the new fitted plug contains a fuse, its value is the same as that removed from the cut-off plug.
- The cord grip is clamped over the sheath of the mains lead, and not simply over the lead wires.
IF YOU HAVE ANY DOUBT, CONSULT A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN.

The cooling fan in this projector continues to run for about 90 seconds after the projector is turned off. During normal operation, when turning the power off always use the POWER buttons. Ensure the cooling fan has stopped before disconnecting the power cord. DURING NORMAL OPERATION, NEVER TURN THE PROJECTOR OFF BY DISCONNECTING THE POWER CORD. FAILURE TO OBSERVE THIS WILL RESULT IN PREMATURE LAMP FAILURE.

Important Safeguards
ATTENTION: Please read all of these instructions before you operate your LCD Projector for the first time. Save these instructions for future reference.
For your own protection and prolonged operation of your LCD Projector, be sure to read the following "Important Safeguards" carefully, before use.
This projector has been engineered and manufactured to ensure your personal safety. But IMPROPER USE CAN RESULT IN POTENTIAL ELECTRICAL SHOCK OR FIRE HAZARDS. In order not to defeat the safeguards incorporated into this LCD Projector, observe the following basic rules for its installation, use and servicing.
- Unplug the LCD Projector from the wall outlet before cleaning.
- Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners. Use a damp cloth for cleaning.
- Do not use attachments not recommended by the LCD Projector manufacturer, as they may cause hazards.
- Do not use the LCD Projector near water; for example, near a bathtub, washbowl, kitchen sink, laundry tub, in a wet basement, near a swimming pool, etc. Never spill liquid into the projector.
- Do not place the LCD Projector on an unstable cart, stand, or table. The LCD Projector may fall, which may cause serious injury to a child or an adult, and/or serious damage to the unit.
- Wall or Ceiling Mounting—The product should be mounted to a wall or ceiling only as recommended by the manufacturer.
- LCD Projector equipment and cart combinations should be moved with care. Quick stops, excessive force, and uneven surfaces may cause the equipment and cart combination to overturn.
- Slots and openings in the cabinet back and bottom are provided for ventilation. To ensure reliable operation of the LCD Projector and to protect it from overheating, these openings must not be blocked or covered. The openings should never be covered with cloth or other material.
- This LCD Projector should never be placed near or over a radiator or heating vent. The LCD Projector should not be placed in a built-in installation such as a bookcase unless proper ventilation is provided.
- The LCD Projector should be operated only from the type of power source indicated on the back of the projector or in the specifications. If you are not sure of the type of power supplied to your home, consult your LCD Projector dealer or local power company.
- Do not place the LCD Projector where the cord will be abused by persons walking on it.
- Follow all warnings and instructions marked on the LCD Projector.
- To prevent damage to the projector due to lightning and power-line surges, unplug the projector from the power outlet, when not in use.
- Do not overload wall outlets and extension cords with too many products, because this can result in fire or electric shock.
- Never push objects of any kind into the LCD Projector through the cabinet slots as they may touch high-voltage points or cause a short circuit. This could result in a fire or electric shock.
- Do not attempt to service the LCD Projector yourself. Opening or removing covers may expose you to dangerous voltage or other hazards. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.

- Unplug the LCD Projector equipment from the wall outlet and refer servicing to qualified service personnel under the following conditions:
a. When the power cord or plug is damaged or frayed. b. If liquid has been spilled into the LCD Projector.
c. If the LCD Projector has been exposed to rain or water.
d. If the LCD Projector does not operate normally when you follow the operating instructions. Adjust only those controls that are covered by the operating instructions, as improper adjustment of other controls may cause damage and will often require extensive work by a qualified technician to restore the LCD Projector to normal operation.
e. If the LCD Projector has been dropped or the cabinet has been damaged.
f. When the LCD Projector exhibits a distinct change in performance—this indicates a need for service.

When replacement parts are required, be sure the service technician has used replacement parts specified by the manufacturer that have the same characteristics as the original parts. Unauthorised substitutions may result in fire, electric shock, or other hazards.

This LCD Projector is provided with one of the following types of plugs. If the plug should fail to fit into the power outlet, please contact your electrician.
Do not defeat the safety purpose of the plug.
a. Two-wire type mains plug.
b. Three-wire grounding type mains plug with a grounding terminal.
This plug will only fit into a grounding type power outlet.

Cautions Concerning the Laser Pointer
The laser pointer on the remote control emits a laser beam from the laser pointer window. This is a Class II laser which may impair your sight if directed into the eyes. The three marks shown on the left are caution labels for the laser beam.
- Do not look into the laser pointer window or shine the laser beam on yourself or others. (The laser beam used in this product is harmless when directed onto the skin. However, be careful not to project the beam directly into the eyes.)
• Always use the laser pointer at temperatures between +5°C and +40°C. - Use of controls or adjustments, or performance of procedures other than those specified herein may result in hazardous radiation exposure.
Caution Concerning the Lamp Unit
Potential hazard of glass particles if lamp ruptures. Please have Sharp Authorised LCD Projector Dealer or Service Centre replace lamp if rupture occurs.

Cautions Concerning the Setup of the Projector
For minimal servicing and to maintain high image quality, SHARP recommends that this projector be installed in an area free from humidity, dust and cigarette smoke. If the projector is used in these environments, the lens and filter will need to be cleaned (or the filter replaced) more often, and internal cleaning may become necessary. As long as the projector is regularly cleaned, use in these environments will not reduce the overall operation life of the unit. Internal cleaning should only be performed by a Sharp Authorised LCD Projector Dealer or Service Centre.

- The exhaust vent, the lamp cage cover and adjacent areas may be extremely hot during projector operation. To prevent injury, do not touch these areas until they have sufficiently cooled.
- Allow at least 10 cm of space between the cooling fan (exhaust vent) and the nearest wall or obstruction.
- If the cooling fan becomes obstructed, a protection device will automatically turn off the projector lamp. This does not indicate a malfunction. Remove the projector power cord from the wall outlet and wait at least 10 minutes. Then turn on the power by plugging the power cord back in. This will return the projector to the normal operating condition.



Usage Guidelines

Temperature Monitor Function
If the projector starts to overheat due to setup problems or a dirty air filter, "TEMP." and "X" will flash in the lower-left corner of the picture. If the temperature continues to rise, the lamp will turn off, the TEMPERATURE WARNING indicator on the projector will flash, and after a 90-second cooling-off period the power will shut off. Refer to "Lamp/Maintenance Indicators" on page 49, for details.
NOTE
- The cooling fan regulates the internal temperature, and its performance is automatically controlled. The sound of the fan may change during projector operation due to changes in the fan speed.
Lamp Monitor Function
When the projector is turned on after the lamp has been used for 1,900 hours, "LAMP" and "B" will flash in the lower-left corner of the picture to advise you to replace the lamp. See pages 50 and 51 for lamp replacement. If the lamp has been used for 2,000 hours, the projector power will automatically turn off and the projector will enter standby mode. Refer to "Lamp/Maintenance Indicators" on page 49, for details.

You can connect your projector to a computer for projection of full colour computer images.

①Connect one end of the supplied computer RGB cable to the INPUT 1 or 2 port on the projector.
②Connect the other end to the Monitor output port on the computer. Secure the connectors by tightening the thumb screws.
③To use the built-in audio system, connect one end of the supplied computer audio cable to the AUDIO INPUT terminal for INPUT 1, 2 on the projector.
④Connect the other end to the Audio output terminal on the computer.
CAUTION
- Before connecting, be sure to turn both the projector and the computer off. After making all connections, turn the projector on first. The computer should always be turned on last.
NOTE
- Please read the computer's operation manual carefully.
- Refer to page 57 "Computer Compatibility Chart" for a list of computer signals compatible with the projector. Use with computer signals other than those listed may cause some of the functions not to work.
When connecting this projector to a computer, select "Computer/RGB" for "Signal Type" on the GUI menu. (See page 29.)
NOTE
- A Macintosh adaptor may be required for use with some Macintosh computers. Contact your nearest Sharp Authorised LCD Projector Dealer or Service Centre.

When connecting the projector to a compatible computer other than an IBM-PC (VGA/SVGA/XGA/SXGA/UXGA) or Macintosh (i.e. Workstation), a separate cable may be needed. Please contact your dealer for more information.
When connecting this projector to a computer, select "Computer/RGB" for "Signal Type" on the GUI menu. (See page 29.)
NOTE
- Connecting computers other than the recommended types may result in damage to the projector, the computer, or both.
- AUDIO INPUT for INPUT 1, 2 can be used input audio corresponding to the INPUT 1 and 2 video.
"Plug and Play" function
- This projector is compatible with VESA-standard DDC 1/DDC 2B. The projector and a VESA DDC compatible computer will communicate their setting requirements, allowing for quick and easy setup.
- Before using the "Plug and Play" function, be sure to turn on the projector first and the connected computer last.
NOTE
- The DDC, Plug and Play function of this projector operates only when used in conjunction with a VESA DDC compatible computer.

Connecting the Projector to Video Equipment
You can connect your projector to a VCR, laser disc player, DVD player, DTV* decoder and other audiovisual equipment.
CAUTION
- Always turn off the projector while connecting to video equipment, in order to protect both the projector and the equipment being connected.

- If your video equipment does not have an S-video output terminal, use the Composite video output terminal.

Cleaning the bottom air filter
- This projector is equipped with four air filters to ensure the optimal operating condition of the projector.
- The air filters should be cleaned every 100 hours of use. Clean the filters more often when the projector is used in a dusty or smoky location.
- Purchase a replacement air filer (PFILD0076CEZZ) from your nearest Authorized Sharp LCD Products Dealer or Service Center when if the filter is torn or become deteriorated.

The warning lights on the projector indicate problems inside the projector.
-
There are two warning lights: a TEMPERATURE WARNING indicator which warns that the projector is too hot, and a LAMP REPLACEMENT indicator which lets you know when to change the lamp.
- If a problem occurs, either the TEMPERATURE WARNING indicator or the LAMP REPLACEMENT indicator will illuminate red. After turning off the power, follow the procedures given below.

NOTE
- If the TEMPERATURE WARNING indicator illuminates, follow the above possible solutions and then wait until the projector has cooled down completely before turning the power back on. (At least 5 minutes.)
- If the power is turned off and then turned on again, as during a brief rest, the LAMP REPLACEMENT indicator may be triggered, preventing the power from going on. Should this occur, take the power cord out of the wall outlet and put it back in again.
Lamp
The lamp in this projector operates for approximately 2,000 cumulative hours, depending on the usage environment. It is recommended that the lamp be replaced after 1,900 cumulative hours of use or when you notice a significant deterioration of the picture and colour quality. The lamp usage time can be checked with the On-screen Display (see page 43).
CAUTION
- Intense light hazard. Do not attempt to look into the aperture and lens while the projector is operating.
NOTE
- As the usage environment can vary significantly, the projector lamp may not operate for 2,000 hours.

Replacing the Projection Lamp
CAUTION:
- Potential hazard of glass particles if lamp ruptures. Please have Sharp Authorised LCD Projector Dealer or Service Centre replace lamp if rupture occurs.
- Do not remove the lamp cage directly after operation of the projector. The lamp may be extremely hot. Wait at least one hour after the power cord is disconnected to allow the surface of the lamp cage to fully cool before removing the lamp cage.
It is recommended that the lamp be replaced after approximately 1,900 cumulative hours of use or when you notice a significant deterioration of the picture and colour quality. Carefully change the lamp by following the steps below.
If the new lamp does not light after replacement, take your projector to the nearest Sharp Authorised LCD Projector Dealer or Service Centre for repair. Purchase a replacement lamp unit (lamp/cage module) of the current type BQC-XGC40XU/1 from your nearest Sharp Authorised LCD Projector Dealer or Service Centre. Then carefully change the lamp by following the instructions below. If you wish, you may have the lamp replaced at your nearest Sharp Authorised LCD Projector Dealer or Service Centre.
Removing and installing the lamp unit
CAUTION
- Be sure to remove the lamp cage by the handle. Be sure not to touch the glass surface of the lamp cage or the inside of the projector.

A computer can be used to control the projector by connecting an RS-232C cable (null modem, cross type, sold separately) to the projector. (See page 16 for connection.)

This SHARP projector uses LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) panels. These very sophisticated panels contain 786,432 pixels (× RGB) TFTs (Thin Film Transistors). As with any high technology electronic equipment such as large screen TVs, video systems and video cameras, there are certain acceptable tolerances that the equipment must conform to.
This unit has some inactive TFTs within acceptable tolerances which may result in illuminated or inactive dots on the picture screen. This will not affect the picture quality or the life expectancy of the unit.

Anti-aliasing digital keystone correction
Function to digitally correct a distorted image when the projector is set up at an angle.
Aspect ratio
Width and height ratio of an image. The normal aspect ratio of a computer and video image is 4:3. There are also wide images with an aspect ratio of 16:9 and 21:9.
Auto sync
Optimises projected computer images by automatically adjusting certain characteristics.
Background
Initial setting image projected when no signal is being input.
Clock
Clock adjustment is used to adjust vertical noise when clock level is incorrect.
Compatibility
Ability to use with various image signal modes.
Composite sync
Signal combining horizontal and vertical sync pulses.
Dot by dot
Mode that projects images in their native resolution.
Fit to screen
Function to adjust an image without a 4:3 aspect ratio, and project it in a 4:3 ratio.
Freeze
Function to freeze a moving image.
GUI
Graphical User Interface. User interface with graphics that allow easier operation.
I/P conversion
Function to convert an image between "Interlaced" and "Progressive" scan displays.
Intelligent compression and expansion
High quality resizing of lower and higher resolution images to fit the projector's native resolution.
Magnification
Digitally zooms in on a portion of an image.
Portable Document Format. Documentation format used to transfer text and images from the CD-ROM.
Phase
Phase shift is a timing shift between isomorphic signals with the same resolution. When phase level is incorrect, the projected image typically displays horizontal flicker.
Presentation tools
Helpful tools used to emphasize keypoints throughout a presentation.
RS-232C
Function to control the projector from the computer by using the RS-232C ports on the projector and computer.
Startup image
The image displayed when the projector is turned on.
Status function
Displays the settings of each adjustment item.
Sync
Synchronizes the resolution and phase shift of two signals. When receiving an image with a resolution different from that of the computer, the projected image may be distorted.
Sync on green
Video signal mode of a computer which overlaps horizontal and vertical sync signal to green colour signal pin.
Wireless mouse
Function to operate the mouse control of a computer with the supplied remote control.
XGA resolution
Resolution with 1,024 × 768 pixels that uses the signal of an IBM/AT compatible (DOS/V) computer.

SPECIAL NOTE FOR USERS IN THE U.K.
The mains lead of this product is fitted with a non-rewireable (moulded) plug incorporating a 10A fuse. Should the fuse need to be replaced, a BSI or ASTA approved BS 1362 fuse marked 🌐 or ◎ and of the same rating as above, which is also indicated on the pin face of the plug, must be used.
Always refit the fuse cover after replacing the fuse. Never use the plug without the fuse cover fitted. In the unlikely event of the socket outlet in your home not being compatible with the plug supplied, cut off the mains plug and fit an appropriate type.
DANGER:
The fuse from the cut-off plug should be removed and the cut-off plug destroyed immediately and disposed of in a safe manner.
Under no circumstances should the cut-off plug be inserted elsewhere into a 10A socket outlet, as a serious electric shock may occur.

- The wire which is coloured blue must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter N or coloured black.

Do not defeat the safety purpose of the plug
a. Two-wire type (mains) plug.
b. Three-wire grounding type (mains) plug with a grounding terminal.

13. Power-Cord Protection

18. Damage Requiring Service

d. If the product does not operate normally by following the operating instructions. e. If the product has been dropped or damaged in any way.

Upon completion of any service or repairs to this product, ask the service technician to perform safety checks to determine that the product is in proper operating condition.
21. Wall or Ceiling Mounting
This product should be mounted to a wall or ceiling only as recommended by the manufacturer.
22. Heat
This product should be situated away from heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other products (including amplifiers) that produce heat.
Ensure that you read the following safeguards when setting up your projector.
Caution concerning the lamp unit
■Potential hazard of glass particles if lamp ruptures. In case of lamp rupture, contact your nearest Sharp Authorized Projector Dealer or Service Center for replacement. See “Replacing the Lamp” on page 60.

Caution concerning the setup of the projector
For minimal servicing and to maintain high image quality, SHARP recommends that this projector be installed in an area free from humidity, dust and cigarette smoke. When the projector is subjected to these environments, the vents and lens must be cleaned more often. As long as the projector is regularly cleaned, use in these environments will not reduce the overall operation life of the unit. Internal cleaning should only be performed by a Sharp Authorized Projector Dealer or Service Center.
Do not set up the projector in places exposed to direct sunlight or bright light.
■Position the screen so that it is not in direct sunlight or room light. Light falling directly on the screen washes out the colors, making viewing difficult. Close the curtains and dim the lights when setting up the screen in a sunny or bright room.
The projector may be safely tilted to a maximum angle of 9 degrees.
■ Placement should be within ±9 degrees of horizontal.

When you use the projector in high-altitude areas with thin air, set "Fan Mode" to "High". Neglecting this can affect the longevity of the optical system.
Warning about placing the projector in a high position
■When placing the projector in a high position, make certain it is carefully secured to avoid personal injury caused by the projector falling down.
Do not subject the projector to hard impact and/or vibration.
■ Take care with the lens so as not to hit or damage the surface of the lens.
Rest your eyes occasionally.
■Continuously watching the screen for long hours will cause eye strain. Take regular breaks to rest your eyes.
Avoid locations with extremes of temperature.
■The operating temperature of the projector is from 41°F to 95°F (+5°C to +35°C).
■The storage temperature of the projector is from -4^ to 140^ ( -20^ to +60^ ).
Do not block the intake and exhaust vents.
■Allow at least 7 ^7/8 inches (20 cm) of space between the exhaust vent and the nearest wall or obstruction.
■Ensure that the intake vent and the exhaust vent are not obstructed.
If the cooling fan becomes obstructed, a protection circuit will automatically put the projector into standby mode to prevent overheat damage. This does not indicate a malfunction (see pages 58 and 59). Remove the projector power cord from the wall outlet and wait at least 10 minutes. Place the projector where the intake and exhaust vents are not blocked, plug the power cord back in and turn on the projector. This will return the projector to the normal operating condition.
Caution regarding usage of the projector
When using the projector, take care not to subject it to hard impact and/or vibration, as this can result in damage. Take extra care with the lens. If you are not to use the projector for a long time, make certain you unplug the power cord from the wall outlet, and disconnect any other cables connected to it.
■Do not carry the projector by holding the lens.
■ When storing the projector, ensure you attach the lens cap to the projector. (See page 12.)
■Do not expose the storage case or projector to direct sunlight or near heat sources. The storage case or projector may change color or become deformed.
Other connected equipment
■When connecting a computer or other audio-visual equipment to the projector, make the connections AFTER unplugging the power cord of the projector from the AC outlet and turning off the equipment to be connected.
■Please read the operation manuals of the projector and the equipment to be connected for instructions on how to make the connections.
Using the projector in other countries
■The power supply voltage and the shape of the plug may vary depending on the region or country you are using the projector in. When using the projector overseas, make sure you use an appropriate power cord for the country you are in.
Temperature monitor function
If the projector starts to overheat due to setup problems or blockage of the air vents,

nate in the lower left corner of the picture. If the temperature continues to rise, the lamp will turn off, the temperature warning indicator on the projector will blink, and after a 90-second cooling-off period the projector will enter the standby mode. Refer to "Maintenance Indicators" on page 58 for details.

•The cooling fan regulates the internal temperature, and its performance is automatically controlled. The sound of the fan may change during projector operation due to changes in the fan speed. This does not indicate malfunction.
- Even if you unplug the power cord after projector operation, the cooling fan continues to run for a while. When you place the projector into the storage case, make sure that the cooling fan has stopped.

Using the Carrying Handle
When transporting the projector, carry it by the carrying handle on the side.
- Always put on the lens cap to prevent damage to the lens when transporting the projector.
- Do not lift or carry the projector by the lens or the lens cap as this may damage the lens.

Using the Remote Control with a Signal Cable
When the signals from the remote control cannot be reached due to the positioning of the projector, use a 3.5 mm minijack cable to connect the remote control to the projector. Now you can control the projector with the remote control.


Note
- The wireless remote function is not possible when the 3.5mm minijack cable is connected to the projector. Should the wireless remote operation be required, the 3.5mm minijack cable should be disconnected from the projector.
Using the Remote Control
Usable Range
The remote control can be used to control the projector within the ranges shown in the illustration.

Note
- The signal from the remote control can be reflected off a screen for easy operation. However, the effective distance of the signal may differ depending on the screen material.
When using the remote control:
• Take care not to drop, expose to moisture or high temperature.
- The remote control may malfunction under a fluorescent lamp. In this case, move the projector away from the fluorescent lamp.

Caution
- Danger of explosion if battery is incorrectly replaced. Replace only with the same or equivalent type.

- Comply with the rules (ordinance) of each local government when disposing of worn-out batteries.

For optimal image quality, position the projector perpendicular to the screen with the projector's feet flat and level. Doing so will eliminate the need for Keystone correction and provide the best image quality. (See page 32.)
Standard Setup (Front Projection)

Ceiling-mount Setup
It is recommended that you use the optional Sharp ceiling-mount bracket for this installation. Before mounting the projector, contact your nearest Sharp Authorized Projector Dealer or Service Center to obtain the recommended ceiling-mount bracket (sold separately).
- For the U.S.A.: AN-XGCM55 ceiling-mount bracket, its AN-EP101B extension tube and AN-JT200 universal bracket, adaptor for non-level ceiling installation.
- For countries other than the U.S.A.: AN-60KT ceiling-mount bracket, its AN-TK201 and AN-TK202 extension tubes.

Storing the Projector
How to Use the Storage Case
When storing the projector, attach the lens cap to the lens, and place it in the supplied storage case.
1 Open the cover of the storage case.
2 Place the projector into the storage case.

- Ensure the projector has cooled down sufficiently before placing it in the case.
- Ensure the lens cap is attached to the lens for protection.
- Place the projector into the storage case with the lens facing the handle.
- Ensure the projector is held in place by using the fixing band.
3 Close the cover of the storage case.
4 Place the accessories in the front pocket of the storage case.

Connecting to a Computer
Before connecting, ensure the power cord of the projector from the AC outlet is unplugged, and that the devices to be connected are turned off. After making all connections, turn on the projector and then the other devices. When connecting a computer, ensure that it is the last device to be turned on after all the connections are made.
Ensure the operation manuals of the devices to be connected have been read before making connections.
When connecting with the RGB cable
(Connecting to COMPUTER/COMPONENT 1 or 2: The illustration shown below is for the former.)

* When using the ø3.5 mm mono audio cable, the volume level will be half of when using the ø3.5 mm stereo audio cable.

Note
- See page 63 "Computer Compatibility Chart" for a list of computer signals compatible with the projector. Use with computer signals other than those listed may cause some of the functions to not work.
- A Macintosh adaptor may be required for use with some Macintosh computers. Contact your nearest Macintosh Dealer.
- Depending on the computer you are using, an image may not be projected unless the computer's external output port is switched on. (e.g. Press "Fn" and "F5" keys simultaneously when using a SHARP notebook computer). Refer to the specific instructions in your computer's operation manual to enable your computer's external output port.
When connecting with a DVI digital cable
The projector employs the DVI digital input terminal for direct input of Digital Video signals from a computer.

* When using the 3.5 mm mono audio cable, the volume level will be half of when using the 3.5 mm stereo audio cable.
Connecting to Video Equipment
The image quality is highest in order of the Component signal, the RGB signal, the S-video signal and the Video signal. If your audio-visual equipment has a component output terminal or RGB output terminal, use the COMPUTER/COMPONENT terminal 1 or 2 on the projector for video connection.

Connecting to an Amplifier or Other Audio Equipment
Audio signals input from equipment connected to each audio input terminal of the projector can be output to audio equipment.


Note
- Turn off the power of both the projector and audio equipment when connecting.
- When turning off the power in the case of connecting an amplifier or other audio equipment, first turn off the power of the amplifier and then turn off the power of the projector.
- By using external audio components, the volume can be amplified for better sound.

Plug the supplied power cord into the AC socket on the rear of the projector. Then plug into the AC outlet.

• After the lamp indicator illuminates, the projector is ready to start operation.
- When System Lock is set, the keycode input screen appears. Enter the right keycode to start projection. See page 49 for details.

Note
• The lamp indicator illuminates or blinks, indicating the status of the lamp.
Green: The lamp is on.
Blinking green: The lamp is warming up.
Red: The lamp is shut down abnormally or the lamp should be replaced.
- When switching on the projector, a slight flickering of the image may be experienced within the first minute after the lamp has been illuminated. This is normal operation as the lamp's control circuitry is stabilizing the lamp output characteristics. This does not indicate malfunction.
- If the projector is put into standby mode and immediately turned on again, the lamp may take some time to illuminate.
Turning the Power Off (Putting the Projector into Standby Mode)

Press STANDBY/ON on the projector or ⓄSTANDBY on the remote control, then press that button again while the confirmation message is displayed, to put the projector into standby mode.

Using the Adjustment Feet
The height of the projector can be adjusted using the adjustment feet when the screen is located higher than the projector, the screen is inclined or when the installation site is slightly inclined.
Install the projector so that it is as perpendicular to the screen as possible.

Press the Height Adjustment buttons.
•The adjustment feet come out.

Lift the projector to adjust its height and remove your hands from the Height Adjustment buttons.
• The projector is adjustable up to approximately 9 degrees.

Rotate the Tilt dial to finely adjust the horizontal tilt of the projector.
• The inclination is adjustable within approximately 2 degrees.
- When adjusting the height of the projector, trapezoidal distortion occurs. When "Auto Keystone" of the "Options1" menu is set to "On" (see page 48), keystone correction functions automatically to correct trapezoidal distortion. When you want to adjust the automatically corrected image, use the manual keystone correction. (See page 32.)

Info
- Do not press the Height Adjustment button when the adjustment feet come out without firmly holding the projector.
- Do not hold the lens when lifting or lowering the projector.
- When lowering the projector, be careful not to get your fingers caught in the area between the adjustment foot and the projector.

Correcting Trapezoidal Distortion
Auto Keystone Correction
When the image is projected either from the top or from the bottom towards the screen at an angle, the image becomes distorted trapezoidally.
The function for correcting trapezoidal distortion is called Keystone Correction.
This projector is equipped with an "Auto Keystone Correction" function that automatically corrects any trapezoidal distortion within the projected image. The correction is made automatically provided the vertical incline or decline is within ± 12 degrees.

- When not using the Auto Keystone Correction function, set "Auto Keystone" on the "Options1" menu to "Off".
Manual Keystone Correction
When you want to make fine adjustments after the Auto Keystone Correction function has been activated, or when you want to make corrections without using the Auto Keystone Correction function, you can make corrections manually using the following procedure.

Press ⓄKEYSTONE on the remote control to enter the Keystone Correction mode.
- You can also use KEYSTONE on the projector.

Press ▲, ▶ or ▼, ◀ on the remote control to adjust the Keystone Correction.
- You can also adjust the Keystone Correction using the ▲,▲ or ▼,▼ buttons on the projector.

- Straight lines or the edges of images may appear jagged while adjusting the image.

- The Manual Keystone Correction can be adjusted up to an angle of approximately ±40 degrees and the screen can also be set up to an angle of approximately ±40 degrees (when the resize mode is set to "Normal" (see page 47)).
Adjusting the Lens
The image is focused and adjusted to the screen size using the focus ring or zoom knob on the projector.
1 The focus is adjusted by rotating the focus ring.
2 Zooming is adjusted by moving the zoom knob.

Switching the INPUT Mode
Select the appropriate input mode for the connected equipment.
On the remote control
Press 1, 2, DVI S-VIDEO or VIDEO on the remote control to select the input mode.
On the projector
①Press an INPUT ( ▲▼)button.
•The INPUT list appears.
②Press ▲▼ to select an item on the list.
③Press ENTER.

- When no signal is received, "NO SIGNAL" will be displayed. When a signal that the projector is not preset to receive is received, "NOT REG." will be displayed.

Displaying the Black Screen and Turning Off the Sound Temporarily
Press ☒ AV MUTE on the remote control to temporarily display a black screen and turn off the sound.

Displaying an Enlarged Portion of an Image
Graphs, tables and other portions of projected images can be enlarged. This is helpful when providing more detailed explanations.
1 Press + ENLARGE on the remote control.
- Enlarges the image. - Pressing + or - ENLARGE enlarges or reduces the projected image.

- You can change the location of the enlarged image using ▲, ▼, ◀ and ▶.
2 Press ⬇RETURN on the remote control to cancel the operation.
•The magnification then returns to ×1.

In the following cases, the image will return to the normal size ( ×1 ).
- When switching the INPUT mode.
- When RETURN has been pressed.
- When the input signal is changed.
- When the input signal resolution and refresh rate (vertical frequency) change.
- When RESIZE has been pressed.
Freezing an Image
1 Press 📄FREEZE on the remote control.
•The projected image is frozen.
2 Press 📄FREEZE again to return to the image from the currently connected equipment.

Displaying and Setting the Break Timer
This function allows you to show the remaining time for break during meeting.
1 Press BREAK TIMER. The break timer starts to count down from 5 minutes.

- You can set anywhere between 1 and 60 minutes (in 1 minute units).

Switching the Eco/Quiet Mode
Press ECO/QUIET on the remote control or ECG/QUIET on the projector to switch the Eco/Quiet mode between on and off.
- When the Eco/Quiet Mode is set to "On", the sound of the cooling fan will turn down, the power consumption will decrease, and the lamp life will extend. (Projection brightness decreases 20%.)

Using the Remote Control as the Wireless Computer Mouse
When connecting the projector and the computer with a USB cable, you can use the remote control as the computer mouse.
If the computer is placed too far away from the projector to be connected via the USB cable, the separately sold remote receiver (AN-MR2) makes it possible to operate the projector with the remote control. For details, see the operation manual of the receiver.
Connecting with a USB cable

The mouse pointer can be operated in the following way after it is connected.
■When moving the cursor
Press MOUSE/Adjustment buttons (▲/▼/◄/►).
■When left-clicking
Press Ⓗ CLICK.
■When right-clicking
Press ●-CLICK.
■When your computer supports only a one-click mouse (such as Macintosh)
Press ●CLICK or ReCLICK.
⑤ L-CLICK and ⚠-CLICK have common function.

■When using [Page Up] or [Page Down]
Same as the [Page Up] and [Page Down] keys on a computer keyboard.

① Selecting the Picture Mode
This function allows you to select the picture mode in accordance with brightness of the room or content of the image to be projected. In all picture modes, items on the "Picture" menu can be adjusted and saved.

- "sRGB" is displayed only when RGB signal is input.
- sRGB is an international standard of color reproduction regulated by the IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission). As the fixed color area has been decided by the IEC, the images are displayed in a natural tint based on an original image, when "sRGB" is selected. For additional information about the sRGB function, visit "http://www.srgb.com/". You cannot set the items "Red", "Blue", "CLR Temp", when "sRGB" is selected.

- When "sRGB" is selected, the projected image may become dark, but this does not indicate a malfunction.

⑦ Setting the Video System
The video input system mode is factory preset to "Auto"; however, a clear picture from the connected audio-visual equipment may not be received, depending on the Video signal difference. In that case, switch the Video signal.

Adjusting the Computer Image
If the optimum image cannot be obtained with Auto Sync adjustment, use the Fine Sync function.

Resolution Setting
Ordinarily, the type of input signal is detected and the correct resolution mode is automatically selected. However, for some signals, the optimal resolution mode in "Resolution" on the "Fine Sync" menu may need to be selected to match the computer display mode.

Note
- If your computer displays patterns which repeat every other line (horizontal stripes), flickering may occur which makes the image hard to see. - See “Checking the Input Signal” on the right column for information on the currently selected input signal.

Auto Sync Adjustment
Used to automatically adjust a computer image.

④ Keystone Correction
When the image is projected either from the top or from the bottom towards the screen at an angle, the image becomes distorted trapezoidally. The function for correcting trapezoidal distortion is called Keystone Correction.

Set "Auto Keystone" on the "Options1" screen menu to "On".
Manual Keystone Correction
Set "Auto Keystone" on the "Options1" screen menu to "Off", and select "Keystone", then adjust with the slide bar.

System Lock Function
This function prevents unauthorized use of the projector. Once this function is activated, users must enter the correct keycode each time the projector is turned on. We suggest you record the keycode in a safe place where only authorized users have access.

- If you lose or forget your keycode, contact your nearest Sharp Authorized Projector Dealer or Service Center (see page 66). Even if the product warranty is valid, the keycode reset will incur a charge.

When System Lock is set

Speaker Setting
This function allows you to set the audio output of the internal speaker to "On" or "Off" such as when the projector is connected to an external amplifier.

Reversing/Inverting Projected Images
This projector is equipped with a reverse/invert image function that allows you to reverse or invert the projected image for various applications.

When "Fan Mode" is set to "High", the fan rotation speeds up, and the fan noise becomes louder.

When set to “Enable”, the function is activated and power is consumed even in the standby mode. It is recommended that the function be set to “Disable” when it is not connected. This reduces power consumption when the projector is in the standby mode.

Selecting the On-screen Display Language
The projector can switch the on-screen display language among 11 languages.
Maintenance
Cleaning the projector
■Ensure the power cord is unplugged before cleaning the projector.
■The cabinet as well as the operation panel is made of plastic. Avoid using benzene or thinner, as these can damage the finish on the cabinet.
■Do not use volatile agents such as insecticides on the projector.
Do not attach rubber or plastic items to the projector for long periods.
The effects of some of the agents in the plastic may cause damage to the quality or finish of the projector.

■Wipe off dirt gently with a soft flannel cloth.
■When the dirt is hard to remove, soak a cloth in a mild detergent diluted with water, wring the cloth well and then wipe the projector.
Strong cleaning detergents may discolor, warp or damage the coating on the projector. Make sure to test on a small, inconspicuous area on the projector before use.
Cleaning the lens
■Use a commercially available blower or lens cleaning paper (for glasses and camera lenses) for cleaning the lens. Do not use any liquid type cleaning agents, as they may wear off the coating film on the surface of the lens.
■As the surface of the lens can easily get damaged, be careful not to scrape or hit the lens.

Cleaning the exhaust and intake vents
■Use a vacuum cleaner to clean dust from the exhaust vent and the intake vent.

- If you want to clean the air vents during projector operation, ensure you press 📄STANDBY/ON on the projector or ⒽSTANDBY on the remote control and put the projector into standby mode. After the cooling fan has stopped, unplug the power cord from the AC socket and clean the vents.
- The air filters should be cleaned every 100 hours of use. Clean the filters more often when the projector is used in a dusty or smoky location.
Replacing the Air Filter
- This projector is equipped with air filters to ensure the optimal operating condition of the projector.
- Ask your nearest Sharp Authorized Projector Dealer or Service Center to exchange the filter (PFILDA022WJKZ) when it is no longer possible to clean.
Replacing the Air Filter
1 Press STANDBY/ON on the projector or ⏻STANDBY on the remote control to put the projector into the standby mode.
- Wait until the cooling fan stops.
2 Disconnect the power cord.
- Unplug the power cord from the AC socket.
3 Remove the filter cover.
- Turn over the projector. Pull down the carrying handle (①), grab the tab (②) and slide open the filter cover (③).
4 Remove the air filter.
- Pick the air filter up with your fingers and lift it out of the filter cover.

■The warning lights on the projector indicate problems inside the projector.
If a problem occurs, either the temperature indicator or the lamp indicator will illuminate red, and the projector will enter the standby mode. After the projector has entered the standby mode, follow the procedures given below.

About the temperature warning indicator

TEMP.
If the temperature inside the projector increases, due to blockage of the air vents, or the setting location, "TEMP." will illuminate in the lower left corner of the picture. If the temperature keeps on rising, the lamp will turn off and the temperature warning indicator will blink, the cooling fan will run for a further 90 seconds, and then the projector will enter the standby mode. After "TEMP." appears, ensure you perform the measures described on page 59.
About the lamp indicator

Change The Lamp.
■When the remaining lamp life becomes 5% or less, “☒” (yellow) and “Change The Lamp.” will be displayed on the screen. When the percentage becomes 0%, it will change to “☒” (red), the lamp will automatically turn off and then the projector will automatically enter the standby mode. At this time, the lamp indicator will illuminate in red.
If you try to turn on the projector a fourth time without replacing the lamp, the projector will not turn on.

Info
- If the temperature warning indicator illuminates and the projector enters the standby mode, check whether any of the ventilation holes are blocked (see page 8) and then try turning the power back on. Wait until the projector has cooled down completely before plugging in the power cord and turning the power back on. (At least 10 minutes.)
- If the power is turned off for a brief moment due to power outage or some other cause while using the projector, and the power supply recovers immediately after that, the lamp indicator will illuminate in red and the lamp may not be lit. In this case, unplug the power cord from the AC outlet, replace the power cord in the AC outlet and then turn the power on again.
- The cooling fan keeps the internal temperature of the projector constant and this function is controlled automatically. The sound of the cooling fan may change during operation because the fan speed may change and this is not a malfunction.
Regarding the Lamp
Lamp
It is recommended that the lamp unit (optional: AN-C430LP) be replaced when the remaining lamp life becomes 5% or less, or when you notice a significant deterioration in the picture and color quality. The lamp life (percentage) can be checked with the on-screen display. See page 47.
■ Purchase a replacement lamp unit of type AN-C430LP from your place of purchase, nearest Sharp Authorized Projector Dealer or Service Center.

Caution Concerning the Lamp
This projector utilizes a pressurized mercury lamp. A loud sound may indicate lamp failure. Lamp failure can be attributed to numerous sources such as: excessive shock, improper cooling, surface scratches or deterioration of the lamp due to a lapse of usage time.
The period of time up to failure largely varies depending on the individual lamp and/or the condition and the frequency of use. It is important to note that failure can often result in the bulb cracking.
■ When the lamp replacement indicator and on-screen display icon are illuminated, it is recommended that the lamp be replaced with a new one immediately, even if the lamp appears to be operating normally.
- Should the lamp break, the glass particles may spread inside the lamp cage or gas contained in the lamp may be vented into the room from the exhaust vent. Because the gas in this lamp includes mercury, ventilate the room well if the lamp breaks and avoid all exposure to the released gas. In case of exposure to the gas, consult a doctor as soon as possible.
■ Should the lamp break, there is also a possibility that glass particles may spread inside of the projector. In such a case, it is recommended you contact your nearest Sharp Authorized Projector Dealer or Service Center to assure safe operation.
Replacing the Lamp

Caution
- Do not remove the lamp unit from the projector right after use. The lamp will be very hot and may cause burn or injury.
- Wait at least one hour after the power cord is disconnected to allow the surface of the lamp unit to fully cool before removing the lamp unit.
■ Carefully change the lamp by following the instructions described in this section. *If you wish, you may have the lamp replaced at your nearest Sharp Authorized Projector Dealer or Service Center.
* If the new lamp does not illuminate after replacement, take your projector to the nearest Sharp Authorized Projector Dealer or Service Center for repair.
Removing and Installing the Lamp Unit

Warning!
- Do not remove the lamp unit from the projector right after use. The lamp and parts around the lamp will be very hot and may cause burn or injury.

- Do not touch the glass surface of the lamp unit or the inside of the projector.
• To avoid injury to yourself and damage to the lamp, make sure you carefully follow the steps below. - Do not loosen other screws except for the lamp unit cover and lamp unit.

- Wait until the cooling fan stops.

Disconnect the power cord.
- Unplug the power cord from the AC socket.
- Leave the lamp until it has fully cooled down (about 1 hour).

Remove the lamp unit cover.
- Loosen the user service screw (①) that secures the lamp unit cover. Slide down (②) and remove the lamp unit cover (③).

Remove the lamp unit.
- Loosen the securing screws from the lamp unit. Hold the lamp unit and pull it in the direction of the arrow. At this time, keep the lamp unit horizontal and do not tilt it.

- If the lamp unit and lamp unit cover are not correctly installed, the power will not turn on, even if the power cord is connected to the projector.
Resetting the Lamp Timer
Reset the lamp timer after replacing the lamp.

Info
- Make sure to reset the lamp timer only when replacing the lamp. If you reset the lamp timer and continue to use the same lamp, this may cause the lamp to become damaged or explode.
- You can also reset the lamp timer via the LAN.
(Refer to the SETUP MANUAL on the supplied CD-ROM for details.)
1 Connect the power cord.
- Plug the power cord into the AC socket of the projector.
2 Reset the lamp timer.
- While simultaneously holding down ▼, ENTER and MENU on the projector, press STANDBY/ON on the projector.
- “LAMP 0000H” is displayed, indicating that the lamp timer is reset.

- This projector may not be able to display images from notebook computers in simultaneous (CRT/LCD) mode. Should this occur, turn off the LCD display on the notebook computer and output the display data in "CRT only" mode. Details on how to change display modes can be found in your notebook computer's operation manual.
- When this projector receives 640 × 350 VESA format VGA signals, "640 × 400" appears on the screen.

This projector is equipped with a microprocessor. Its performance could be adversely affected by incorrect operation or interference. If this should happen, unplug the projector and plug it in again after more than 5 minutes.
