Getting Started
Before first use
- This product has been packaged to protect it against transportation damage. Unpack the appliance and keep the original packaging carton and materials in a safe place. It will help prevent any damage if the product needs to be transported in the future, and you can use it to store the appliance when it is not in use. In the event the carton is to be disposed of, please recycle all packaging materials where possible.
- Plastic wrapping can be a suffocation hazard for babies and young children, so ensure all packaging materials are out of their reach. Dispose of any plastic wrapping safely.
- Unwind the power cord to its full length and inspect the cord and plug for damage. Inspect all other parts of the appliance for visual damage. Do not use the appliance if anything appears to be damaged or not working properly. In case of damage, contact our after sales support line for advice.
- Make sure you have read and understood all instructions and warnings in this manual. Refer to the Product Overview, to familiarise yourself with the product and identify all parts. Pay particular attention to the safety instructions on the previous pages.
- Place the appliance on a flat, level and dry surface.
- Open the lid and wipe the upper and lower grill plates with a damp cloth to remove any dust from transportation. Dry thoroughly. Close the lid and wipe the outside surfaces with a soft, dry cloth.
- Before first use, season the non-stick grill plates for long-term protection. Plug in the power plug and turn on the power. After about 10 minutes, or when the plates are preheated, unplug the appliance and carefully smear a small amount of cooking fat (oil, butter or margarine) onto the preheated plates with a paper towel. Exercise care, as the grill plates will be hot. Leave the coating on the plates but wipe off any excess.
NOTE: Do not use aerosol cooking spray as the chemicals these sprays contain can build up on non-stick surfaces and reduce their efficiency.
When first switched on, the unit may emit a little smoke, but this is no cause for concern; it is due to the element and components being new. Ensure good ventilation.
CAUTION!
Do not force the top plate open further than its natural upright position to avoid damaging the hinge.
Using the Grill
1. Preparation
- Place the grill on a firm, stable surface, leaving at least 4 inch of free space
at each side of the grill so that the air can circulate around the appliance.
- Ensure the drip tray is in position to catch fat and oils from grilled food (Fig. 1).
2. Preheating
- Insert the plug into the main power supply and switch on power at the outlet.
The red power light indicates that the appliance is heating up.

- During the first use some smoke may escape from the appliance. This smoke development is harmless and will disappear after a few minutes.
- With the lid closed, let the grill heat up until the green 'Ready' light illuminates.
3. Grilling
- Open the grill and put the food to be grilled on the bottom grill plate.
- Close the top plate to allow the food to be cooked from both sides. The floating hinge design accommodates oddly shaped food. The grill plates should be parallel to ensure even cooking.
- During grilling the green 'Ready' light will cycle on and off. This indicates that the grill is regulating its temperature.
- Monitor your food to ensure it is appropriately cooked – see page 10 for suggested cooking times. Do not leave the appliance unattended when it is plugged in.
- When the food is done, open the top plate carefully using an oven mitt or tea towel. Remove the food with a silicone, wooden or heatproof plastic spatula or tongs.
IMPORTANT!
Don't overcook your food!
Cooking food on the Personal Grill significantly reduces the cooking time. Food may only require about half the time it would take using a traditional grill. Use the cooking chart on page 10 for guidance, and always monitor your food to avoid overcooking or burning it.
- If you want to continue grilling, remove excess oil from the plates with a kitchen towel – take care to avoid burns, the plates will be hot. Then close the grill to retain the heat. Wait again until the green 'Ready' light illuminates to continue grilling at the right temperature.
- When you have finished with the grill, unplug it from the socket and let the appliance cool down before cleaning and storage. See page 12 for cleaning instructions.
CAUTION!
- Hot steam may escape when opening the grill, so be careful to avoid burns.
- Do not use a knife, fork or any other sharp object when removing food from the grill as this will damage the non-stick surface.
Grilling Tips
- For best results, do not overload the grill.
- Try to have the food pieces similar in size and thickness to ensure even cooking.
- To prevent heat loss and for even cooking, do not open the top plate frequently during cooking.
- Remember that this grill will cook your food faster than a traditional grill, as it is cooking food from both sides. Watch carefully to avoid overcooking or burning your food.
- Use only silicone, heatproof plastic or wooden utensils when cooking on the grill. Silicone utensils are especially suitable because they do not discolour or melt when exposed to high temperatures.
- For added flavour, marinate and/or season your food before grilling.

FAQs and Troubleshooting
Smoke is coming from the appliance when I switch it on. What should I do?
If you are using the grill for the first time, this is normal and no cause for concern. If you are not using the grill for the first time, check and ensure that there are no food particles between the plates. Also ensure that the grill plates are clean and the drip tray is empty and clean. If it continues to emit smoke, contact our after sales support center.
How do I know the grill plates are hot enough for grilling?
The appliance is ready for grilling when the green 'Ready' light illuminates.
Why does the green indicator light switch on and off during grilling?
Before placing food on the lower grill plate, always ensure the green 'Ready' light is on. When it switches off and on during use, simply continue grilling. It is a sign that the grill is regulating its temperature.
Can I open up the grill completely so it is flat and I can grill on both plates?
No, only place food on the bottom grill plate and then close the top plate so both sides of the food are in contact with the hot grill plates. Do not attempt to force the grill open further than the natural open position, otherwise you will damage the hinge.
Does the grill have to be closed during grilling?
Yes, the grill works by cooking your food fast from both sides simultaneously.
Do I have to preheat the grill?
Yes, preheating ensures that the grill plates are at the right temperature, guaranteeing the best possible taste and the shortest cooking time.
How do I get my steak nicely browned on the outside but still juicy inside?
Start out with a good quality cut of meat, season it and leave aside while preheating the grill. When the plates are hot, place the steak on the lower grill plate and close the top plate. Cook the steak to your liking – see suggested cooking times on the opposite page. Take the steak off the grill as soon as it is done and leave it to rest at room temperature, loosely covered, for 5-10 minutes so the meat fibres can reabsorb the juices.
Food is sticking on the grill plates. How can I get it off?
When the grill plates are still warm, but cool enough to touch safely, gently rub the area with a cloth dampened with cooking oil. Do not use metal utensils or abrasive products to remove food residues as these will damage the non-stick coating of the plates. And always ensure to unplug the appliance before cleaning.

Cleaning and Care
WARNING!
- Ensure the appliance is disconnected from the outlet and the grill plates and drip tray have cooled down fully before cleaning or storing.
- Never immerse the appliance, power cord or plug in water or any other liquid for cleaning.
-
Do not use harsh abrasive cleaners or cleaning materials (such as steel wool, scouring pads, oven cleaners or sharp objects) on any part of the appliance.
