This user manual accompanies this panini press and grill. It contains important information on start-up and handling.

For improved readability, the panini press and grill will be referred to only as the “grill” below.

Before using the grill, read the user manual carefully. This particularly applies to the safety instructions. Failure to comply with this user manual may result in severe injury or damage to the grill.

Store the user manual for further use. If you pass the grill on to third parties, please be absolutely sure to include this user manual.

This user manual can be requested in PDF format via the service address specified on the warranty card.

The grill is only designed for grilling food. It is only intended for private use and not suitable for commercial purposes.

Only use the grill as described in this user manual. Using it in any other way is deemed improper and may result in damage to property or even personal injury. The grill is not a children's toy.

The manufacturer or vendor cannot be held liable for damages incurred through improper or incorrect use.

Safety instructions

IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS

When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed including the following:

- Read all instructions before using.

Risk of electric shock!

A faulty electrical installation or excessive line voltage may result in an electric shock.

- This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). To reduce the risk of electric shock, this plug is intended to fit into a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully into the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not attempt to modify the plug in any way.

- Only connect the grill if the line voltage of the socket corresponds to the data on the rating plate.

- Only connect the grill to an easily accessible socket so that you can quickly disconnect the grill from the power supply system in the event of a fault.

- Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug or after the appliance malfunctions, or has been damaged in any manner. Return appliance to the nearest authorized service facility for examination, repair or adjustment.

- Do not open the housing; instead, have a qualified professional perform repairs. Contact a qualified workshop for this. Liability and warranty claims are waived in the event of repairs performed by the user, improper connection or incorrect operation.

- Only parts that comply with the original device data may be used for repairs. Electrical and mechanical parts, which are essential for providing protection against sources of danger, are located in this grill.

- The grill must not be operated with an external timer or separate telecontrol system.

- Do not immerse the grill or the power cable or power plug in water or other liquids.

- Never touch the power plug with damp hands.

- Do not pull the power plug out of the socket by the power cable; instead, always pull it out by the plug.

- Never use the power cable as a carrying strap.

- Keep the grill, power plug and power cable away from open flames and hot surfaces.

- Lay the power cable so that it does not pose a tripping hazard.

- Do not kink the power cable and do not lay it over sharp edges.

- Only use the grill in indoor spaces. Never operate it in wet rooms or in the rain.

- Never store the grill so that it is at risk of falling into a bath tub or washbasin.

- Never reach to retrieve an electrical device if it has fallen in water. In such a case, immediately disconnect the power plug.

- Never leave the grill unattended while in operation.

- Make sure that children do not insert any objects in the grill.

• Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning the appliance.
• The use of accessory attachments not recommended by the appliance manufacturer may cause injuries.
• Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a heated oven.
• Do not let cord hang over edge of table or counter, or touch hot surfaces.
• Do not use appliance for other than intended use.

Danger for children and persons with impaired physical, sensory or mental capacities (e.g. partially disabled persons, older persons with reduced physical and mental capacities) or lack of experience and knowledge (e.g. older children).

• This grill may be used by children ages eight and over as well as persons with impaired physical, sensory or mental capacities or those lacking experience and knowledge if they are supervised or have been instructed in how to safely use the grill and have understood the risks associated with using it. Children must not play with the grill. Cleaning and user maintenance must not be performed by children unless they are at least eight years old and under supervision.
• Keep children under eight years of age away from the grill and connector cable.
• Store the grill out of the reach of children.
• Never leave the grill unattended while in operation.
• Make sure that children do not play with the packaging wrapper. They may get caught in it when playing and suffocate.

Fire hazard!

Overloading the electrical lines could cause a fire.

- Do not switch the grill on at the same time as another device with higher power consumption if both devices are connected to the same socket.

- If you use an extension cable, it must correspond to valid safety regulations.

- Make sure there is a safe distance to all flammable objects, e.g. curtains and drapes.

WARNING!

Scalding/burn hazard!

The grill emits hot steam when opened and when in use. Parts of the grill become hot. You could scald or burn yourself on them.

- Do not touch the hot parts of the grill with bare fingers during operation. Always use heat-insulated oven gloves or oven mitts to take hold of the grill and all accessories. Clearly advise other users of the risks.

- Keep in mind that the grill may still emit hot steam when switched off and it may need some time to cool off completely.

- Do not in any case change the location of the grill as long as it is hot or if there are hot meals or liquids in or on the grill.

- Extreme caution must be used when moving an appliance containing hot oil or other hot liquids.

- To disconnect the appliance from the wall outlet, turn any control to "OFF", then remove plug from wall outlet.

NOTICE!

Risk of damage!

Improper handling of the grill can damage it.

• Place the grill on an easily accessible, level, dry, heat-resistant and sufficiently stable work surface. Do not place the grill on the edge of the work surface.
• Avoid the build-up of heat by not placing the grill directly up against a wall or under cupboards or similar. The steam that is emitted or the heat produced could damage pieces of furniture.
• Do not cover the grill during operation.
• Never place the grill on or near hot surfaces (e.g. hotplates).
• Ensure that the power cable does not come into contact with hot parts.
• Never expose the grill to high temperatures (heaters etc.) or to the effects of the weather (rain etc.). Never fill the grill with liquid.
• Never attempt to clean the grill by immersing it in water and do not use a steam cleaner to clean it. Otherwise, the grill could be damaged.
• Do not in any case put the grill in the dishwasher. It would be destroyed as a result.

You could damage the non-stick coating of the grill plates with metallic, hard objects.

• Do not use any hard or metallic objects to flip or remove the food you intend to grill.
• Do not use any hard or metallic objects to clean the grill plate.

First use

Checking the grill and pack contents

NOTICE!

Risk of damage!

If you are not cautious when opening the packaging with a sharp knife or other pointed object, you may damage the grill.

- Therefore, be careful when opening it.

1. Take the grill out of the packaging.
2. Check to make sure that the delivery is complete (see fig. A and B).
3. Check whether the grill or the individual parts exhibit damage. If this is the case, do not use the grill. Contact the manufacturer at the service address specified on the warranty card.

Before first use

Before first use, you must heat up the grill in an empty state once to completely remove the production residue.

Odor and even smoke may be produced during first use. This is normal and will only last a short time. Make sure the room is adequately ventilated.

1. Remove the packaging material and all protective foils.
2. Clean all parts of the grill as described in the chapter "Cleaning".
3. Insert the power plug in an easily accessible socket.
4. Turn the temperature control dial 8 until it is set to "MAX" (see fig. A).
5. Let the grill heat up for at least five minutes without any food on it.
6. Turn the temperature control dial until it is set to "OFF".
7. Pull the power plug.
8. Let the grill cool off completely.
9. Clean all parts of the grill again as described in the chapter "Cleaning".

Operation

WARNING!

Scalding/burn hazard!

The grill emits hot steam when opened and when in use. Parts of the grill become hot.

• Do not touch the hot parts of the grill with bare fingers during operation. Always use heat-insulated oven gloves or oven mitts to take hold of the grill and all accessories.
• Only use the handle to operate the device lid.
• Keep in mind that the grill may still emit hot steam when switched off and it may need some time to cool off completely.

WARNING!

Burn hazard!

The grill plate in the device lid is also heated if the device lid is opened. You could burn yourself on it.

- Be careful when grilling while the device lid is open.

NOTICE!

Risk of damage!

The cleaning scraper is not heat-resistant. It could melt if it comes into contact with hot parts.

• Do not flip the food you want to grill with the cleaning scraper.
• Only use the cleaning scraper once the grill plates have cooled off completely.

You can set the distance between the upper and lower grill plate with the release slider. This prevents the weight of the device lid from overburdening delicate food (e.g. fish) with its weight.

The middle of the back part of the grill plate is designed to not get as hot as the rest of the grill plate. Therefore place food with shorter cooking times there.

You can use the grill to grill food on one or both sides. Grilling on both sides is suitable for thicker foods such as meat, fish and sandwiches. You also do not have to flip the food you intend to grill. Grilling food on one side is suitable for softer, thinner foods such as vegetables. Under certain circumstances, you will have to flip the food you intend to grill.

Grilling food on both sides

1. Make sure that the temperature control dial 8 is set to "OFF" (see fig. A).
2. Insert the power plug in an easily accessible socket.

The operating control light 7 will illuminate in red.

1. If necessary, release the lock on the device lid 1 by pulling the release slider 4 to the front.
2. Make sure that the fat drip tray 9 is installed (see fig. D).
3. Turn the temperature control dial to the desired position.

"LOW": Low setting

"MED": Medium setting

“MAX”: Maximum setting

The heat indicator light 6 will illuminate in green.

1. Flip the device lid all the way up using the handle 11 (see fig. C).
2. Coat the top 12 and bottom grill plate 15 with a small amount of butter, margarine or vegetable oil for cooking at high temperatures (see fig. B).
3. Once the heat indicator light has gone out, lay the food you intend to grill on the grill plate.
4. If applicable, adjust the distance between the bottom and top grill plate by pushing the release slider to the desired position.

The distance between the grill plates can be set to five different positions; from position "1" (\~0.2" (0.5 cm)) to position "V" (\~2" (5 cm)).

1. Close the device lid.
2. Once the food you intend to grill has been cooked to your liking, open the device lid.
3. Use a heat-resistant, but non-metallic cooking utensil to remove the food you intend to grill.
4. Turn the temperature control dial to "OFF".
5. Pull the power plug out of the socket.

Grilling food on one side

1. Make sure that the temperature control dial 8 is set to "OFF" (see fig. A).
2. Insert the power plug in an easily accessible socket.

The operating control light 7 will illuminate in red.

1. If necessary, release the lock on the device lid 1 by pulling the release slider 4 to the front.
2. Make sure that the fat drip tray 9 is installed (see fig. D).
3. Use the handle 11 to flip the device lid all the way up until it is at a 90° angle.
4. Hold the device lid by the handle and at the same time, push the 180° button 3.
5. Hold the 180° button down and flip the device lid up until the top and bottom grill plate are level within one another (see fig. B).
6. Turn the temperature control dial to the desired position.

"LOW": Low setting

"MED": Medium setting

"MAX": Maximum setting

The heat indicator light 6 will illuminate in green.

1. Coat the top 12 and bottom grill plate 15 with a small amount of butter, margarine or vegetable oil for cooking at high temperatures.
2. Once the green heat indicator light has gone out, lay the food you intend to grill on the grill plates.
3. Use a heat-resistant, but non-metallic cooking utensil to flip the food you intend to grill.
4. Once the food you intend to grill has been cooked to your liking, use a heat-resistant, but non-metallic cooking utensil to remove it.
5. Turn the temperature control dial to "OFF".
6. Pull the power plug out of the socket.

Cleaning

WARNING!

Scalding/burn hazard!

Even after you have disconnected the grill from the power supply system, the grill plates and other parts of the grill will still be so hot that you could burn yourself on them.

• Let the grill cool off completely before you start cleaning it.
• Remove all hot food and liquids before you move the grill.

NOTICE!

Risk of short circuit!

Water that has penetrated the housing may cause a short circuit.

• Never immerse the grill in water.
• Make sure that no water penetrates the housing.

NOTICE!

Risk due to improper operation!

Improperly cleaning the grill may damage it.

• Do not use any aggressive cleaners, brushes with metal or nylon bristles, sharp or metallic cleaning utensils such as knives, hard scrapers and the like. They could damage the surfaces.

• Do not in any case put the grill in the dishwasher. It would be destroyed as a result.

• Disconnect the power plug before cleaning.

• Let the grill, the grill plates 12 and the accessories cool off completely (see fig. B).
• Remove any leftover food and fat from the grill plates with the cleaning scraper 5, by pushing the leftovers towards the drain hole 14 (see fig. A).
• Carefully pull the fat drip tray 9 out of the holder.
• Empty the fat drip tray.

Storage

1. Release the locking mechanism for the grill plates using the corresponding release button 10.
2. Remove the grill plates.
3. Wash the fat drip tray and the grill plates with a soft cloth and warm soapy solution.
4. Rinse the fat drip tray and the grill plates with clean water.
5. Let the fat drip tray and the grill plates dry completely.
6. Use a moderately damp, soft cloth to wipe off the grill exterior.
7. Wipe the grill dry.
8. Push the fat drip tray into the holder on the grill (see fig. D).
9. Push the semi-circular recesses 13 for the respective grill plate under the metal clips on the grill housing and push the front side of the grill plate firmly until it locks into place.

Storage

1. Lock the device lid 1 by pushing the release slider 4 back with the device lid closed (see fig. A).
2. If possible, stow the grill in its original packaging. This will effectively protect the grill from shocks.
3. Store the grill in a dry, protected place.

Troubleshooting

Fault Possible cause	Solution
The device is not working.	The grill has not been properly connected with the power supply system.	Insert the power plug in a socket.
The green heat indicator light has switched off.	The thermostat has deactivated the heating function as the set temperature has been reached.	This is not an error. The green heat indicator light lights up every time the thermostat activates the heating function and goes out as soon as the set temperature has been reached.
Smoke/odor is produced during first use.	Odor and smoke are produced the first time you use the device due to production residue.	This is not an error. The production residue must burn off completely. Heat up the device without food as described in the chapter “Before first use”.
