Frequently Asked Questions - SS20 Tork

How do I adjust the timer duration on the Tork SS20?
The timer is adjustable from 1 minute to 18 hours. Turn the adjustment knob or dial (located on the front or side of the unit) to set the desired off-time. Refer to the manual for exact location.
Can the Tork SS20 be used with LED bulbs?
The SS20 is rated for resistive, ballast (fluorescent), and tungsten loads. LED bulbs are typically resistive but have very low wattage. Ensure the total LED wattage meets the minimum load requirement (e.g., 60W at 120V). If below minimum, the timer may not function correctly.
What is the minimum load required for the SS20 to operate?
The minimum load depends on voltage. At 120 VAC, it requires at least 60 watts. At 240 VAC, 120 watts; at 277 VAC, 150 watts. Always check the rating chart for your voltage.
Is the Tork SS20 suitable for 3-way switching?
No, the SS20 is a single-pole switch. For 3-way applications, use the SS13 or SS10 models which have a RED wire as common.
How do I wire the Tork SS20 for 120 VAC?
Connect the black (line) wire from the breaker to the timer's line terminal. Connect the red (load) wire from the timer to the load. Connect neutral (white) to neutral and ground (green/bare) to ground. Ensure power is off before wiring.
Can the SS20 control a ceiling fan?
Yes, if the fan's motor rating does not exceed 1/6 HP at 120 VAC or 1/2 HP at 240 VAC. Also check the total wattage (including lights) does not exceed the maximum rating.
Why does my SS20 timer not turn off the load?
Possible causes: the timer adjustment is set to maximum (18 hours), the load is below the minimum wattage, or the wiring is incorrect. Verify the load meets minimum requirements and check connections.
Is the Tork SS20 compatible with a 277 VAC lighting system?
Yes, the SS20 is rated for 277 VAC with a minimum load of 150 watts and maximum resistive load of 7.25 A (2011 W). Ensure your system meets these limits.
Does the SS20 have a neutral wire connection?
Yes, for proper operation of the electronics, a neutral wire is required. Connect the white neutral wire from the panel to the timer's neutral terminal.
How do I clean and maintain the Tork SS20?
Wipe the exterior with a dry cloth. Do not use water or cleaning solvents. No internal maintenance is needed. If the timer fails, replace the entire unit.
