Read the operating instructions carefully before use!
Please retain for future reference.
• Always keep these operating instructions together with the chainsaw.
- Follow the safety instructions in order to prevent accidents which could lead to serious bodily injury or death.
- Follow the safety instructions in order to avoid damage to the product.
- Familiarise yourself with the saw's controls so that you are able to operate it safely.
• Always observe all local safety regulations when operating your chainsaw.
- Incorrect handling can lead to serious personal injury.
- Even with correct usage the saw constitutes some risk. The nature of the saw means that the following risks should be taken into account:
- Contact with the unprotected sawing chain (cuts).
– Unexpected, sudden movement of the guide bar (cuts).
– Hearing damage, if no ear defenders are used. - Breathing in harmful particles or exhaust gases from the engine.
- Skin contact with petrol.
NOISE
WARNING Risk of hearing damage. Wear ear protection. Under normal operating conditions, this device can expose the operator to a noise level of 80 dB (A) or more.
- Some noise from the machine is unavoidable.
- Noisy work should be limited to certain periods.
- Take frequent breaks, and it might be necessary to restrict working hours to a minimum.
- The user should wear ear defenders, and others in the vicinity might need to do the same.
VIBRATION
WARNING
- The vibration value during actual use of the saw may differ from the value specified in the operating instructions. This can be due to the following factors:
- Whether the saw is used correctly.
- Whether sawing is performed correctly and in suitable material.
- Whether the saw is used according to the instructions
- Whether the saw chain is sufficiently sharp
- Whether the handles are fitted correctly.
- If you notice an unpleasant sensation or skin discolouration during use of the machine, stop using it.
- Take regular breaks. Vibration injuries can arise if you do not take frequent breaks of sufficient length.
SAFE USE
- Always take great care when handling fuel. Always wipe up spillage and move the chainsaw at least ten metres away from the fuelling point before starting
the engine. - Eliminate all sources of sparks or flame (i.e. smoking, open flames, or work that can cause sparks) in the areas where fuel is mixed, poured, or stored.
- Do not smoke while handling fuel or while operating the chainsaw.
- Unauthorised persons must not be in the vicinity of the chainsaw when it is started or in use. Keep bystanders and pets out of the work area. Unauthorised persons should be a minimum of 10 metres away when the saw is started or in use.
- Never start cutting until you have a clear work area, secure footing, and planned retreat path from the falling tree.
- Always hold the chainsaw firmly with both hands when the engine is running. Use a firm grip with thumb and fingers encircling the chainsaw handles.
- Keep all parts of your body away from the saw chain when the engine is running. Before starting the engine, make sure the saw chain is not touching anything.
- Always carry the chainsaw with the engine stopped, the guide bar and saw chain to the rear, and the muffler away from your body.
- Always inspect the chain for worn, loose, or modified parts before each time of use. Never operate a chainsaw that is damaged, improperly adjusted, or is not completely and securely assembled. Ensure that the saw chain stops moving when the throttle control trigger is released.
- All chainsaw service, other than the items listed in the operating instructions, should be performed by competent chainsaw service personnel (e.g. if improper
tools are used to remove the flywheel, or if an improper tool is used to hold the flywheel in order to remove the clutch, structural damage to the flywheel could occur which could subsequently cause the flywheel to disintegrate).
• Always shut off the engine before setting it down.
- Use extreme caution when cutting small size brush and saplings because slender material may catch the saw chain and be whipped toward you or pull you off balance.
- When cutting a branch that is under tension, be alert for spring back to avoid being struck when the tension in the wood fibres is released.
- Keep the handles dry, clean and free of oil or fuel mixture.
- Guard against kickback. Kickback is the upward motion of the guide bar which occurs when the saw chain at the nose of the guide bar contacts an object. Kickback can lead to dangerous loss of control of the chainsaw.
- When transporting your chainsaw, make sure the appropriate guide bar scabbard is in place.
- Place the saw securely during transport to prevent loss of fuel, damage or injury.
BEFORE USE
- Never operate a chainsaw when you are tired, ill, upset, or under the influence of alcohol, drugs or medication that may make you drowsy.
- Only use the chainsaw in well-ventilated areas. Never start or run the engine inside a closed room or building. Exhaust fumes contain dangerous carbon monoxide.
- Never cut in high wind, bad weather, when visibility is poor or in very high or low temperatures. Always check the tree for dead branches which could fall during the felling operation.
- Use safety and slip-resistant footwear, snug fitting clothing and eye, hearing and head protection devices. Use anti-vibration (AV) gloves.
-
The precautionary measures below are recommended to reduce the risk of bodily injury. Even taking these precautionary measures does not guarantee that injury will be avoided.
-
Keep your body warm, especially the head, neck, feet, ankles, hands and wrists.
- Maintain good blood circulation by performing vigorous arm exercises during frequent work breaks.
- Do not smoke.
- Keep the saw chain sharp and the saw, including the AV system, well maintained. A blunt chain will increase cutting time, and pressing a blunt chain through wood increases the vibrations transmitted to your hands. A saw with loose components or with damaged or worn AV buffers will also tend to have higher vibration levels.
- Do not use the saw for too long at a time.
KICKBACK SAFETY PRECAUTIONS FOR CHAINSAW USERS
- Kickback may occur when the tip of the guide bar touches an object, or when the wood closes in and pinches the saw chain in the cut. Tip contact in some cases may cause a lightning fast reverse reaction, kicking the guide bar up and back towards the operator. If the saw chain pinches along the top of the guide bar, it may push the guide bar rapidly back towards the operator. Either of these reactions may cause you to lose control of the saw which could result in serious personal injury.
-
Do not rely exclusively on the safety devices built into your saw. As a chainsaw user you should take a number of precautions to avoid accidents:
-
With a basic understanding of kickback you can reduce or eliminate the element of surprise. Sudden surprise contributes to accidents.
- Always use both hands to grip the saw. When the engine is running, keep the right hand on the rear handle, and the left hand on the front handle. Use a firm grip with thumbs and fingers encircling the chainsaw handles. A firm grip will help you reduce kickback and maintain control of the saw. Never let go.
- Make certain that the area in which you are cutting is free from obstructions. Do not let the tip of the guide bar come into contact with a log, branch, or any other obstruction which could be hit while you are operating the saw.
- Cut at high engine speeds.
- Do not overreach or cut above shoulder height.
– Follow the manufacturer's sharpening and maintenance instructions for the saw chain. - Only use replacement bars and chains recommended by the manufacturer.

• Always check that the brake is working before using the saw.
Checking the brake
- Turn off the engine.
- Holding the chainsaw horizontally, release your hand from the front handle, hit the tip of the guide bar against a stump or a piece of wood (Figure 3). The brake should now be activated. How long this take varies according to bar size.

BEFORE SAWING
- Firstly, read the "Safe use" section. Always follow all safety regulations.
- The first time you use the chainsaw you should choose a simple task. This will help you to get accustomed to your new saw.
- The chainsaw must only be used for cutting wood. It is forbidden to cut other types of material. Vibrations and kickback vary with different materials and the requirements of the safety regulations would not be respected.
- Do not use the chainsaw as a lever for lifting, moving or splitting objects.
- Never mount it on a stand. It is forbidden to hitch tools or applications to the P.T.O. that are not
specified by the manufacturer.
- It is not necessary to force the saw into the cut. Only apply light pressure while running the engine at full throttle.
- The saw should be inspected before use and after dropping or other impacts to identify significant damage or defects.
• Racing the engine with the chain seized in a cutaway can damage the clutch system.
- If the saw chain is stuck, never try to force it out. Use a wedge or a lever to open the cut
NOTE:
- The spiked bumper must always be in place. Push the spiked bumper into the tree trunk by using the rear handle. Push the front handle in the direction of the cutting line. If necessary, the spiked bumper should remain to facilitate further sawing. Using the spiked bumper when cutting trees and thick branches can enhance your safety and reduce vibrations.
- If you detect an obstacle between tree and chainsaw, turn off the machine. Wait until it stops completely. Wear safety gloves and remove the obstacle. If the chain has to be removed, follow the relevant instructions in the manual. A trial run must be conducted after the chain has been cleaned or put on again. In the event of vibration or unusual noises, stop using the saw immediately and contact Julia's service department.
PROTECTION AGAINST KICKBACK
- This saw is also equipped with a chain brake that will stop the chain in the event of kickback if operating properly.
- You must check the chain brake operation before each usage: run the saw at full throttle for 1 or 2 seconds, then push the front hand guard forward. The chain should stop immediately with the engine at full speed. If the chain is slow to stop or does not stop at all, then replace the brake belt and clutch drum before use.
- It is extremely important that the chain brake is checked for proper operation before each use and that the chain is properly sharp (figure 6) as it significantly reduces the risk of kickback (figure 7). Removal of the safety devices, inadequate maintenance, or incorrect replacement of the bar or chain may increase the risk of serious personal injury due to kickback.

FELLING A TREE
WARNING Prior to felling, be sure to warn everybody in the vicinity.
- Decide the felling direction considering the wind, lean of the tree, location of heavy branches, ease of job after felling, and other factors.
- While clearing the area around the tree, arrange a good foothold and retreat path.
- Make a notch cut one-third of the way into the tree on the felling side.
- Make a felling cut from the opposite side of the notch and at a level slightly higher than the bottom of the notch.
LOGGING
WARNING
• Always ensure your foothold as well as stability of the tree.
- Be alert to the fact that cut logs can overturn or roll away.
- Read the instructions in the "Safe Operation" section to avoid kickback.
- Before starting work, check the direction of bending force inside the log to be cut.
- Always finish cutting from the opposite side of the bending direction to prevent the guide bar from being caught in the cutaway.

- First check which way the branch is bent.
- Then make a shallow cut into the compressed side to prevent the branch from whipping back (Figure 7).
- Cut through the branch from the tensed side.
WARNING Be alert to the cut branch whipping back.
Pruning
Cut from the bottom up, and finish from the top down. (Figure 8).

MAINTENANCE
WARNING
- Only use spare parts specified in this manual.
• Using other spare parts can cause serious injury. - Follow the instructions for care and maintenance. Improper maintenance may result in serious damage to the machine.
• Before cleaning, inspecting or repairing your unit, make sure that engine has stopped and is cool. - Disconnect the spark plug to prevent accidental starting.
AFTER EACH USE
Air filter
- Dust on the surface of the filter's casing can be removed by tapping it against a hard surface.
• To clean dirt from the filter itself, first open the filter casing and then brush the filter clean.
You can also blow the filter clean (from the inside) with compressed air. - To assemble the casing's halves, press the rim until it clicks.

Remove the guide bar and check the oil port for clogging.

Guide bar
- While the guide bar is removed, remove sawdust from the bar groove and the oil port.
- Grease the nose sprocket from the chain oil port on the tip of the bar.

Miscellaneous
- Check for fuel leakage and loose fastenings and damage to major parts, especially handle joints and guide bar mounting.
- If any defects are found, make sure to have them repaired before operating again.
REGULAR MAINTENANCE
Cylinder fins
- Dust clogging between the cylinder fins will cause overheating of the engine. Check and clean the cylinder fins regularly.
- First remove the air filter casing and cylinder cover. When installing the cylinder cover, make sure that switch wires and grommets are positioned correctly.

natural_image

• Using a wire hook, take out the filter from the fuel tank port (Figure 9).
- Dismantle the filter and clean with petrol, or replace with a new one if needed.

Oil tank
- With a wire hook, take out the oil filter through the oil tank port and clean in petrol (Figure 10).
- When putting the filter back into the tank, make sure that it comes to the front right corner.
• Also clean off dirt in the tank.
NOTE:
• After removing the filter, use a pinch to hold the end of the suction pipe.
- When assembling the filter, take care not to allow fibres or dust into the suction pipe.
Spark plug
Clean the electrodes with a wire brush and reset the gap to 0.65 mm as necessary.

Sprocket
- Check for cracks and excessive wear interfering with the chain drive. If there is considerable wear, replace it with a new one.
- Never fit a new chain on a worn sprocket, or a worn chain on a new sprocket.

- Clutch block
Front and Rear dampers
- Replace if the attachment starts to loosen or its rubber starts to crack.
Decompression valve (if applicable)
-
After an extended period of use, it is possible that the decompression valve may not close or come out due to deposits inside the cylinder.
• To remove the carbon, take the following steps: -
Remove air cleaner cover, cylinder cover, spark plug and decompression valve from the engine.
-
Clean the electrodes with a wire brush. Viewing through the spark plug hole, crank down the
piston to the lowest position by pulling recoil starter slowly.
-
Prepare a 2 to 2.3 mm diameter drill bit.
-
Lay down the engine facing the valve mounting hole downward so that the removed carbon will not drop into cylinder.
-
Use the drill bit to scrape off the deposits. Rotate it very slowly.
-
Make sure to remove the drill bit and pull recoil starter several times.
-

Sharpening the saw chain's cutters
WARNING
- Be sure to wear safety gloves.
- Be sure to round off the front edge to reduce the chance of kickback or chain break.
NOTE:
- It is very important for smooth and safe operation to always keep the cutters sharp.
-
Use a round file of proper size to sharpen the chain.
• The saw blades need to be sharpened when: -
sawdust becomes powder-like.
- you need extra force to saw.
- it is difficult to make a straight cut.
- vibration increases.
– fuel consumption increases.
• Make sure the engine is stopped.
• Make sure the saw chain is held securely (Figure 11).
